Detour to England (look here's a tower and cathedral for place setting) but I can feel the author missing Yokohama, so I'm sure we won't stay long -- or will we? Hydra hasn't been home to visit her dead love in so long, perhaps she'd like to protract the imaginary tea and conversation.

We finally begin to get some solid background on the two Marys. Maybe. Akaza is still withholding the name of one of the boys, so a twist could be coming...

I swear sometimes this manga doesn’t feel like a Shojo bc there is quite a lot of action! I love all the parts of the story we’re finding out in every volume, all the pieces are starting to come together!

The characters take a research trip to England. There are castles and churches. Very few people live there except vampires. Vampires are rude and interrupt people who are trying to get in touch with their memories. Thus, they deserve death. Nothing continues to happen between the MCs but the gazing amps up a little.

4.5/5 estrellas.

I honestly can't get enough of this manga. Art style on point. Character design on point. The plot thickens (gets a bit confusing at times with "Mary") when we learn more about red-haired vampires like Mary. I did like the introduction of Lily, the granddaughter of Shinobu's mentor? or the person that Maria, Mary, and Shinobu was suppose to meet in England. The interactions between Lily and Shinobu was playful and enjoyable to read. However, I want to see more of "Mary" and Maria's interactions.

Looking forward to the next volume.

This volume was also pretty good, I’m actually kind of excited how and when Bloody? Not sure what his name is will get his memories back, also I think he’s a mix of his brother somehow. I’m really interested on that plot. I have no idea how the romance plot is gonna be invoked but I do see some undertones that I like but it’s so slow so I’m not sure

I feel like this volume was just jam-packed with loads of information that I can only decipher about half of. I'm feeling really confused, especially with the very last page and Hydra's relationship with "Mary"-- Actually, you know what, there's a lot including and beyond those two things that are confusing the heck out of me right now. It's like we had our questions answered with only more questions. OH YEAH, and we're at the halfway point now, aren't we? Now that I've finished volume five of a ten volume series, I'm exactly halfway done. That feels a little sad, because it seems like things might end horribly. I really don't want this manga to have a bad or tragic ending, especially not after all the time and emotional attachment I've invested in it and the characters. (By the way, author, maybe most the fandom likes Bloody Mary more than Ichiro, but I like them equally now!)
Regardless, this volume was exciting, and tantalizing too, I should say. But I'm scared of what will happen, even Shinobu Yuki seems to know that it can't end so easily or happily for these two. What tipped him off though, I wonder? He mentions that during the same time that he talks about how strange it is that out of all the people in the world, the first person Ichiro chooses to trust wholly is a suspicious suicidal vampire, enough even to fall asleep beside him. Perhaps Shinobu believes that when the time comes for Maria to keep living and Mary to die, they won't want to be separated quite so quickly anymore... Along with other complications that may come with Mary's mysteries.
Ah, and it seems that CONFIRMED Bloody/Mary and "Mary" were orphaned twins, never having known or retained any memory of their parents, being taken in by a church and then "Mary" was given up for adoption to a rich family. But to protect his sickly brother, he chose that they switch identities, so that Bloody/Mary could get a good life and the help he needs. Even so, they stuck together, but I think that "Mary" remained a stray. But then who turned them? "Mary" was certainly a vampire, Hydra keeps talking about how they were in love. And she has his skeleton comfortably stored in a mansion... Also, apparently Hydra was once human too, but as of this volume, we've learned that red-haired vampires were all previously human. So maybe she bleaches her hair or wears a wig? Hmm. We've also learned that red-haired vampires are indeed mortal, unlike Bloody Mary. So, THAT, is even more befuddling than it was before. Not only that, but we've learned that vampire blood is poison to humans, unless diluted properly? But it's taboo to turn a human into a vampire (by vampire society), so it is extremely dangerous for both parties, and apparently you HAVE to love someone and they love you back in order to manage to turn a human into a vampire. So, Bloody/Mary loved a vampire and was loved back. But who? His brother, "Mary"? Or was Bloody turned before "Mary" was? Were both of them even vampires or was it just one and everyone thought otherwise? For 400 years, nobody was ever able to tell them apart except Ichiro (which surprised "Mary" a little bit). And these two were twin brothers, one or both were vampires, but now they share a body. Or do they? That's a tough question too. Because it has SEEMED up to this point that one body has shared two entities. But I'm really starting to think that there's a high probability that Bloody/Mary really just has a split personality disorder in order to cope with the loss of his brother, as one of them DEFINITELY died hundreds of years ago, we just ASSUME it was "Mary", the more boisterous one of the two/the non-sickly one. He also seems to suffer from trauma induced amnesia, because "Mary" seems to retain memories of the both of them, but Bloody/Mary has almost no memories until recently when memories of the past have been bleeding over and causing his body to react negatively and forcing his stronger personality out more often than ever before. That raises another question too. We know "Mary" has been gone for a VERY long time, as Bloody has been around long enough to gain a large reputation for himself, and to cause Hydra to hate him (as well as to say it's been hundreds of years since they last met). Just because it appears that "Mary" killed Yusei, doesn't mean that Bloody/Mary didn't also exist already. Ah... Honestly though, it probably really is just two entities sharing a body. But how? And how were they turned? I have so many ideas... Maybe the twins had found a vampire who loved them whom they loved back. Or maybe someone wanted to turn one of them (probably "Mary", but maybe not) and they switched places, tricking the vampire, and then the vampire was outraged and killed one of them? It's obvious that they can't live without each other, "Mary" even mentioned that. I wonder if it's just been "Mary" this whole time, and Bloody/Mary died four hundred years ago, he's the body in the chair. I wonder if Hydra knows. I just have so many questions.
But I must say, I'm becoming more and more attached to all of them, especially Shinobu, Ichiro, and the twins. Please, let everyone have their wishes as kindly as desired. (I also love Yusei, I appreciate anytime he appears. <3)

This volume starts off soon after the group (Shinobu, Ichirō, and Bloody) arrives in England. We're shown that the vampire issue is just as bad, if not worse, in England (which makes sense as I believe it was mentioned in an earlier volume that they were introduced to Japan a little later), and that Ichirō conveniently has access to a black card thanks to the Sakuraba family; so if they didn't know where Ichirō was before, they certainly do now! But whatever.

In the room, when Shinobu goes for his shower, there's a moment while Bloody is sleeping that Ichirō contemplates him, he's actually asking questions that I was recently asking myself ("what will happen once he regains his memories? What will happen to this Mary's personality?"), but then Ichirō seems to become self-aware and reminds himself that it shouldn't matter. It seems like he's beginning to feel some conflict over fulfilling Mary's wish to kill him, he seems like he's becoming attached.
I said in a review in the previous volume, and I'll say it again: The slow development of Bloody's and Ichirō's relationship (platonic or whatever it is) is very interesting to me, and I am curious to see what comes of it (if anything does). Something I found out when looking for the next volume of this series that I found funny, it's listed in the 'yaoi' category on TokyoToys. I've seen no sign of it explicitly falling into that category thus far, but I haven't read the other half of the series (I believe there's like 10 or so volumes?) so I'm not speaking for anything that happens next and I don't want spoilers.

I had some theories that the boy (Mary) that looks like Bloody in his memories somehow merged his personality with Mary, but Hydra visiting Mary in the previous volume made me reconsider that until this volume revealed what Hydra was speaking to! I didn't expect it and it's the first time in a very long time I was completely taken off-guard by a plot twist. I'm not sure why because I should have considered this possibility, Samamiya really played me with how she went about this. After seeing what 'Mary' was that Hydra was speaking to, it only reinforces my suspicions, especially after they met the other red-haired vampire in this that explained how a human becomes one, which gets me to the next point I want to make about this volume.

Some of the lore around vampires in this series differs from the typical, primarily that it's commonly believed that vampires are born as vampires (like a separate species), and that humans are believed to be unable to become vampires. I think this should have been established earlier (if it was, I must have missed it). If it was established earlier and I (as a reader) spent a longer time believing there was this divide between the two species, revealing that red-haired vampires are extremely rare (vampires typically have black or white hair in this), and that they are supposedly the few humans that managed to get turned into vampires (which tells us a little more about Bloody/Mary), would have been more profound than coupling that reveal with the lore dump.
I'm not sure when to include this, so I'll do so now: We're introduced to Lily, the assistant or whatever to Shinobu's mentor (sorry I know we're told, I'm flicking through this and I can't find the page with her introduction on it). She's an interesting character, though I'm not fond of the way she made Bloody strip down to 'prove' he's a natural redhead (which seems to be a bit of a trope in manga and anime, I remember first seeing it in Fruits Basket), and the way she shot him to get proof that silver wouldn't kill him, other than that she's a quirky and interesting character that fits well with the rest of the group.

I mentioned a little bit ago that the group meets another red-haired vampire, who manages to kill herself after giving some vague insight about what may have made Bloody a vampire, thus revealing that Mary's immortality and imperviousness to stuff that would kill anyone else (including vampires) isn't down to him being a red-haired vampire. This entire encounter is really interesting, not only does seeing the other vampire seem to trigger Bloody (he thinks it's someone called 'Mary', but doesn't remember who 'Mary' is and gets confused), and Ichirō is shocked by the exorcist that proclaims to love the red-haired vampire, asking himself "how can a human love a vampire?"

Oh, also we do get a glimpse at what's happening back in Japan to Takumi. He's presented with a test to show his loyalty that's pretty grim imo (he's asked to ingest Yzak's blood), the fact that this is asked of Takumi near to when the group in England is told that a human must ingest a vampire's blood to become a vampire (and this is usually poison to the human, unless it's broken down) is intriguing to me. I have a feeling it has been mentioned somewhere that ingesting Yzak's blood extends the life of his servants, and I suspect it maybe brainwashes them to a degree, since Takumi hopes that Shinobu intervenes if he is compelled to betray Ichirō (as promised).

Overall, this was a really insightful and interesting addition to the series that I thoroughly enjoyed reading!

We're going back to where it all started, for Yzak and Bloody. That's right, we're in England, the perfect spot for some spooky vampire castle settings. And familiar settings stir up old forgotten memories causing the 'inner Mary' to emerge more frequently and giving us a lot of clues. New characters offer new insights into vampire lore and show that Bloody is an extra special being of weird considering he's not supposed to be immortal.

And the bunny hoodies are back! As are the shenanigans of Hasegawa. The romance, however, is focused on Hydra and her strange part of this story.

In this edition, page 52 got reprinted on page 55 so there's a missing page.
