Meine Meinung: Es bleibt weiterhin spannend.
More of a 3.5 star rating; A mysterious guy appears and it turns out to be Maria’s uncle: Shinobu. Shinobu tells Maria about his mother: Shion and his father: Yuusei. I really like Shinobu’s level of loyalty towards Yuusei. Also, with this new information revealed, now I’m even more unsure/distrusting of Takumi.
INTRODUCING! Ichiro's long lost goofball of an uncle, courtesy of the exposition fairy... because he's barely there for chapter and he spills the backstory of Ichiro's father Yusei and Ichiro's previously unmentioned mother, also confirming what was hinted at in volume 3.
Romance update: This fountain of exposition exposes Ichiro's inner emotions and Bloody is the one who sticks his nose in that mess. What follows is perceived (sexual?) tension but the majority of the romance is focused on Yusei and Shion.
But we can't dwell on that for long cause we're going to (try to) put the characters in bunny hoodies! Courtesy of Hasegawa.
Now on a meta level, I have to give this story props for being able to have these big chunks of backstory reveals without revealing everything about the central mystery. You only get little bits, piecing together the puzzle until you probably look like this.
I like the story-line even though it's still quite confusing. This book explained more about the relationship between all the characters though witch made the story more clear. I don't fancy the throwback's in books but in this book it's needed to bring the puzzle pieces together. Also... the scene where Mary bites Maria and sucks his blood is simply.... mouthwatering!
AND THE PLOT THICKENS! No, but really, that ending kinda confused the heck out of me. Actually, everything involving any of Hydra's actions in this volume really, really confused me. Like, I understand her motives as much as anyone can at this point, but huh?? Why so many locks? And uhhh, is that... "Mary"'s dead body, or liiiikkkeee..? I am SO very confused. BUT! It was impossible to NOT give this volume 4 stars, you know why? It has gotten SO good! I mean, MAN, this manga REALLY takes it SLOW but it's finally got some momentum and it's really going now. I quite like Yusei now too and his friends and his story, it's a shame of what happened to him. Also, those pictures... Man, it really hits like a truck when some plot point has been a slow burn. Like, he found those pictures so long ago and now PLOT TWIST that I didn't quite consider. Dang, it hit me and just... wow. Also, that's really quite the proper goodbye, Yusei. Heheheh. Oh, and... Yeah, Maria definitely cares for Bloody...as much as Bloody cares for him, at least he does now after Bloody saved him with his words (and stupidity). The church scene was honestly really heart warming, and so was the scene where Maria chased after a frightened Bloody. It was obvious that he was chasing him not only for the info he might gain but out of genuine concern for Bloody. He's become a lot more kind toward Bloody recently, really ever since Bloody got sick and they shared a bed. He's really warmed up to him. I hope that things will be okay... I also hope that Hasegawa and Takumi will be okay. It made me happy to see that Hasegawa made the kinder choice, as there was no right choice, and both were wrong. But he chose the kinder, more human one, and I am happy and glad for that, for a few reasons but mostly just for Takumi's sake. Oh, and uhhhh, I guess I know how Yusei was "born" now... He was just a clone (wtf?). Yzak... I understand why. But how? IN A BASEMENT??? Not only that but the fact that he made an "immortal" clone of himself means he's basically unlocked the secret to immortality. All that he would have to do is isolate the "immortality" gene, which should be easier than building an entire goddamn clone from scratch that sure as hell did not start out as an infant. I think. Not only that, but... is there not some sort of way to scientifically find the counteractive gene to the "immortality" gene? Like, if you're educated and skilled enough to make an immortal clone in a goddamn basement that you turned into a shrine/sanctuary, and you have QUITE LITERALLY ALL OF THE TIME IN THE WORLD, couldn't you find how to remove or counteract that gene? The answer is YES. But, no, what he did instead were "scientific experiments" on his clone "son," experiments which were just trying to kill the poor child through all these different methods and recording the exact data and results each time. They essentially just tortured the child under close supervision and gave him the utmost strictest curfew and life style imaginable. He truly was only born to die for Yzak's sake, but Ichiro's mother and uncle gave him a life beyond that, and I do think he never blamed his son for what happened. I think that he was happy to have him, and sad for her, but those two things were separate. He was wise, kind, and smart enough to know that. Well, I do hope we see more Shinobu too, I really like him. Still though... What the fuuuuck was that ending? And please give me more scenes like the church scene and the flashback scene, cuz... I need me some more Ichiro being kind to Bloody. Please. I know the mutual hatred has dissipated on both sides by now and turned more into some sort of dependency. The start of an emotional dependency. I do know that Maria will still definitely kill Bloody-- well... Actually, he might struggle with it now... He'll do it, but I feel like they're already at a point where Maria will struggle and Bloody might be like "what da fuq JUST CHOP MY HEAD OFF, MAN. MAKE ME GO POOF WITH AN EXORCISM. SPLATTER MY GUTS gently" It took me four entire volumes, but I've finally come to love basically the entire cast. Um, excluding all but 2 or 3 from the Sakuraba household. Well. 4 or 5 if you include the di Maria family.
After Yzak bumps into a man who knew his father, long flashbacks reveal how Yusei was also immortal and fell in love with the man's sister and Yzak's mother. Those protecting Yzak now know that it was the Mary part of Bloody's self who killed Yusei, but have been unable to draw out that sadistic side since the incident in the basement.
Though it was good to learn more about Yzak's lineage, I was glad when the story returned to Maria and Mary again in the second half.
Not enough Mary in this volume. (Or Bloody I guess) But nice to get more backstory. And now I'm really sad for Ichirou's dad. Pretty tragic family, this one. Loved seeing the bond with his friends though.
I really like this manga, more than I was expecting to. This volume was really interesting, a whole lot of surprising and exciting information and at the same time still so many questions...
This volume was really good, it was really interesting learning more about Ichirō's parents from his uncle, Shinobu. I really like Shinobu, I hope he doesn't have any sort of hidden agenda and truly has Maria's best interests.
Death, suicide ideation, and moments that remind me personally of the kind of thought cycles I end up in when severely depressed (like wanting to disappear) does come up a lot in this volume, just as it does in others of this series. While I do enjoy this series, it does sometimes take me off-guard how some heavy subjects are tackled so bluntly, and sometimes so light-heartedly. If any I mentioned (or similar) are a particularly difficult subjects for you, I would recommend avoiding this series. I remember struggling with this the first time I read the first volume because I was so shocked by it, but I've acclimatised to it by now and I'm actually wondering if Samamiya themselves may struggle with these thoughts or has someone close who does, and this story is a cathartic outlet for them? Idk, just a thought.
I am really interested in Bloody's and Ichirō's odd relationship. It seems really affectionate and trusting at times, but then Ichirō's internal monologues are typically about how he'll use Bloody to suit his needs. Towards the end of this volume, however, he does start to wonder why he's talking to Bloody about his true feelings about the circumstances in which his parents died and that he blames himself, he let Bloody in and I think he was reassured by what Bloody had to say in response. Sleeping and resting on each other isn't a new thing for these two either, but I have noticed they've been touching each other like this a little more often as their relationship progresses. I'm not sure if this is a BL series, and I wouldn't mind it if it turned out to be, but I like that this affectionate (although odd) friendship between two men is being depicted as well.
I'm not sure how accurately it is because I don't believe I have this disorder, and I don't believe I know anyone that does, but Bloody's multiple personalities is quite interesting to me as well, and I do particularly like that Mary only seems to emerge when Bloody is particularly vulnerable or overwhelmed, and that Bloody has no memory of what Mary does (or really gets that Mary exists even when other people talk about him when Bloody's around lol). I like that he seems clueless, but he does have moments of panic when he gets flashbacks of stuff Mary probably did that don't add up to him. I wonder what will happen if he does realise he's got this other personality he wasn't aware of.
Also, I'm glad Hasegawa seems biased towards Takumi despite being a double agent, I sort of like him too so I was gutted when he was revealed to be a mole 😭

We meet Maria's uncle in this volume, and thus sets off a backstory of Maria's mother and father. We get more information on what happened, and who Yzak is and what he's doing.
We see Mary still dealing with his bloodlust, and Maria trying to understand what his family has done and what they're doing now. There are also some serious bromance moments between the two, and I could really feel the yaoi vibe. It was real in that church scene.
I'm surprised that this series is actually getting more interesting the more I read of it. I'm not in love with it, but it's not so jumbled anymore, it's actually making sense and causing me to be intrigued. I'm wondering what's going to happen with Maria's family next. I am definitely curious by Mary, though, and I want to know more about him and his backstory.
