Book 7: A Cooperstown Love Story continues the story of Vance Winkles and Connie Gillis as they travel to Pittsburgh with Connie's dad, Joe, to spend the Thanksgiving weekend of 1961 with Vance's family. Thanksgiving dinner, football games, a shopping trip, and, particularly, the movie version of West Side Story bring Vance and Connie closer together.
Traveling together with The Fishers of Men gospel quartet, Connie as the lead singer and Vance as the accompanist, adds to the closeness of their relationship.
Although separated at Christmas, Vance and Connie share the joy in Joe's recovery. A brief, nostalgic trip back to Brooklyn for Connie and her dad brings closure to Joe's unhappiness.
New Year's Eve reaffirms the strong feelings between Vance and Connie. However, their career goals, Connie as a singer and Vance as a sportswriter, loom ominously over their hopes for a future together with each success that they achieve.
