Vampire Game #7

Vampire Game, Vol. 7

Rate this book
In a no-holds-barred showdown, Ishtar, Duzell and Darres face off against Lord Jened and his High Sorcerer Diaage. Falan observes helplessly, caught between the love of her father and her desire for justice. Duty, loyalty and devotion are all pushed to the breaking point, as everybody's decisions meld into an explosive, heartbreaking and - if we do say so ourselves - pretty darn shocking climax.

I love Ishtar's "so what if they're half-siblings" XD it's very Ishtar, and yeah, considering many of her family members, including her own mother have died giving birth to even one child due to inbreeding, half-siblings really isn't crossing a line for the Pheliostas.

The Ci Xeneth reaches its tragic conclusion, leaving most of the major characters alive, but not unscathed. Illsaide and Falan are forced to make some hard choices, while Ishtar and Duzell continue to grow and mature in the wake of those choices. Sharlen/Diaage makes his escape, but the reader gets the impression he’s far from finished with the main characters, especially Illsaide.

Diaage takes on a new, feminine form in a new scheme which is part of the Zi Alda storyline, using a fresh pawn in her vampire game, the jealous Lady Leene. Leene has her vengeful eye set on Ishtar, whom she blames for stealing the heart of a man she desperately desires. There’s more to this game than Leene, Ishtar, or Darres ever dreamed, for Yujinn is at the heart of it.

I called the ending of the Ci Xeneth arc tragic, but it could have been a lot worse. It ended being a developmental experience for all the characters who survived. Ishtar’s rage at Illsaide for playing with Duzell’s feelings was touching, as was Duzell’s realization he’s coming to care about other people’s feelings. Falan stepping up and taking responsibility as the Princess of Ci Xeneth was beautiful to behold. Everyone got stronger and more capable due to the hurdles they went through.

The new storyline revealed a host of new characters; Lady Sonia, the formidable (and sexy) Lucy, the long suffering Ashley, and the angry Leene, whom is in many ways like a less mature Ishtar. A secret that was no great surprise, yet still delightful was revealed about Yujinn, while Diaage revealed an intriguing new power in his (or her) arsenal. Duzell’s own powers are continuing to strengthen, so he’s regained much of his former might when he fought Phelios, but he’s no longer the vampire he once was. A new game of plotting and scheming begins in a new arc, only this time, Yujinn can’t simply advise from behind the scenes. This time, he’s right in the middle of it.

For character development, plot, and an ongoing overall arc which continues to engage me, depicted through beautiful artwork, this gets five stars.

This volume concludes the Ci Xeneth story arc and I must say hurrah to that, it was beginning to drag. We then move to Zi Alda where we meet Ishtar's aunt Sonja and hear stories about her absent son Yuujel whom many want Ishtar to marry.

There are a couple of shocking revelations in this one. We find out who Yujinn really is and also that Fallan and her beloved Illisade are in fact half-brother and sister.

The story is extremely complicated, but fun for all that and this volume is a nice reset as we abandon the lilike fantasy beasts and get back to the dynastic shenanigans that made this series so fun. Will Duzzell ever find the reincarnation of Phelios? - No sign of it happening any time soon!

Surprisingly I became very depressed in this volume. People got what they deserved, and yet; I got depressed. :/
What doesn't make too much sense is the fact that people need to remarry into the family by reproducing with their cousins. So then why are siblings being in love forbidden? Doesn't make sense, but I still ship it anyway.
Since Duzell has finally become stronger, it seems that we are seeing him in his original form more. Since we've gotten our fill on his girly/human side, now we have to witness his vampiric side too.
Isn't anyone suspicious of Diaage?? I mean c'mon!! We just had an arc with that villain's name!

The series as a whole was good in the beginning. Very funny and intriguing. I love romances where the characters have loved each other forever but have never told each other or something like that. lol The series declines in quality, I think towards the end. There are too many characters in too many places and things get a little confusing.
