Alivia’s father left her a letter before he died, begging her to stay away from the King and the Royals. But it was a plea made in vain. She never could have run from this life, not when she might be Cyrus’ resurrected queen. The King has arrived in Silent Bend and with him, he brought the end to Alivia’s mortal life.
Uncontrollable bloodlust and an ever-shifting world rule her nights now. These twisted politics are deadly enough, but now her heart is the newest battleground. There’s no hiding from the one who hates everything she was born to, a spy who embraces everything she’s become, and a King who vies for someone she may soon remember.
The games have begun. The House of Conrath is growing. Blood will be shed, the bodies will fall. Alliances will be tested and old enemies look like harmless children compared to the new ones rising from the shadows.
Keary Taylor is the USA TODAY bestselling author of over twenty novels. She grew up along the foothills of the Rocky Mountains where she started creating imaginary worlds and daring characters who always fell in love. She now splits her time between a tiny island in the Pacific Northwest and Utah, with her husband and their two children. House of Kings is book three of Keary Taylor's House of Royals series. Alivia, born royal to the Conrath Estate, has been racing through a very haphazard induction to her throne. Nothing like learning on the job, one would say. She has been thrown into this world of spiteful and vindictive characters. There is a genuine problem finding loyal subjects in a world where everyone will turn on you for the right price. As a true sign of destined leadership she has been swimming in her fatal sink or swim initiation. Surprising Alivia's House of Conrath had seemed to develop a bit of normalcy in the conclusion of House of Pawns. I had said in my review for HOP every character is charming and valuable in their own fashion. This will be short lived as everything I had come to know in the two previous books was abruptly uprooted in HOK. This includes the beloved Alivia, as her character takes on a more dark and dismal personality. It was a bit unnerving to see the manic quality in her dialog as she ventures down this twisted path, but I think it is further expanding this already intricate and exceptional character. The King's arrival promised to complicate already difficult matters, and I was not disappointed. I am even more in love with this story upon concluding this third book, but it as left me yet again uncertain where this story will lead. I will continue to raving and praise Keary Taylor on her talented and creative story lines. This is an author that will always provide a story worthy of five stars. Her House of Royals series keeps you guessing, and teetering in limbo of anticipating with no possibility of prediction. Just when I find myself at the cusp of what I believe is the unveiling of the true direction for this story Keary proves why she is an author not to be trifled with. I never tire of her adventures and suspenseful roller coasters that will accompany every Keary Taylor title. ~The BookWhisperer Reviewer JO~
I hate the heroine so much that I literally cannot rate this any higher. Still only continuing because I need the full backstory of Cyrus before I read his books, but omg I'm really pushing myself right now.
I've finished the next book already - so I can only say this series gets better and better. The plot definitely continues to thicken in this novel and Keary Taylor plays her hand with some incredibly clever maneuvers.
Alivia gains allies and enemies with aplomb. A result of this is she starts to question many of her motives and alternately feels like she is swimming or drowning. Of course at some stage this has to become an incendiary combination. She isn't sure where she stands with Ian and this becomes more and more evident as the King approaches and 'the end is nigh'. The Bitten multiply, Jasmine escalates her odious behaviour, and events reach an alarming crescendo.
The King has the expertise of a millennia as he toys with minions. There can be only one winner.
Okay so I admit, I read House of Pawns, then Dove straight into House of Kings...And read them both in ONE DAY!
Yep. That's right. They were that good. I had to know what was happening.
Just like with House of Pawns, this book picks up right where the last one ended! Alivia took a pill to end her own life, Ian came in through her window beggin her to leave with him, but it was too late. There was commotion. Someone drained her. The world went black. When this book starts, Alivia, the House and certainly the reader is in for a ride. She is in bloodlust, and her whole world has changed, King Cyrus has changed the game, and Ian is gone. And we all know from experience that Alivia does NOT cope well when there is no Ian.
So she undergoes a metamorphosis in several ways, but struggles repeatedly. It like whiplash with her demeanor the whole book. I don't know who she is anymore and I don't think she does either. It broke my heart honestly.
Cyrus, Cyrus is a tool. I love him. I Hate him. I love to Hate him. And above all of that...I pity him, honestly truly pity the guy who just wants his wife, but has become a monster and will spend the rest of eternity looking for her to have only a moment in time before she's gone again.
And can I just say AWWWWWW. I never thought that the members of Jasmine's House would be so damn loveable, but here I am Just wanting to cuddle and hold them all.
This whole book I was waiting to see if Alivia was Sevan, but knowing all the while she wasn't and watching the world come crashing down around everyone in the political game Henry never wanted her be a part of. And Rath!! Rath broke my f*$^ing heart. He is the one who stands out the most to me from this book, well him and the ending. That just completely shattered what was left of my heart.
But honestly, I was enraptured, and Raheem I was sooo conflicted over his character. I love him he is perfect book boyfriend material, but I just felt so wrong or guilty or something with him and Alivia. I just don't know!!!! Though we did see less of him this book, what with the King being here, and him being a jealous man, especially if she IS his wife.
But like my review, I felt the plot of this book was over the place not too chaotic, but enough that I was unsure of where I should be looking. Author's intent? Throw me off the scent of her true game and plot or twist...who knows. But I am completely ready for the next book. Oh, that right this one has to release first. C'mon hurry up. We haven't got all day!
House of Kings picks up right where House of Royals ends and takes off like rocket.
"I have become everything I was Born to be. There's no more prolonging the inevitable. I am a vampire."
Alivia is now vampire - a Royal - her birthright. However, she's not so sure she's liking the person she is becoming. But does she really have a choice in order to survive?
The King has stayed in Silent to help Alivia get her House in order and also find out if she is Sevan. While all this is going, many things are happening at the same time. The King has many facets to him and one should never doubt him or his abilities.
Keary, through quite a few interesting twists in this book, keeps the readers invested in this world she has created. There is a secret player at work and no-one, even the King, has any idea who it is.
"This is my birthright. Blood and terror and allegiance. I'm Alivia Conrath, and this is what it truly means to be a House ruler."
The ending has left us with many more questions. I was surprised by the twist she added and quite curious to see where she takes us in the next book. I just hope that we do not have too long to wait.
Every book of this series is worse than the previous one. It started promising but the second and this third book completely ruined it. I read the first two books for two or three sits but I struggled for almost two weeks with this. I'm not sure I'll give more chances and continue the series.
Since the series was available on Kindle Unlimited in an omnibus edition, I ended up reading these books back to back.
Alivia turns pretty dark in this book. I don't really understand the Raheem plot line, because everything is happening in warp speed. Theres's no time to recover from one shocking announcement to the next plot twist.
Oh Liv ..... what have you done? House of Kings picks up right where House of Pawns finished. With our poor Liv taking the plunge and topping herself. She wakes with no idea who drained her or where Ian is. The King is eagerly waiting to find out if she is his lost queen , Jasmine is still hellbent on her destruction, the thing with Raheem is kinda all up in the air and lets not forget... the Kings games! Plus having to get her House in order and readjust to being a Royal Vampire, i'd say Liv has a lot on her plate in this book. Which in turn leads to some rather interesting decision making on her part i must say. At times i could have happily punched her in the face ( maybe i wanted to hit her with a brick on occasion too... girls gone batshit crazy in my book ). The King , oh how i wanted to love him, and love him i do , his devious little games and his full blown obsession with finding his lost wife... whats not to love? Oh .... well i guess there is the small issue that i'm pretty sure he's insane and has no concept of whats acceptable and whats not ha ha. ( i like my men complicated ;) ) The dynamics between The king and our Alivia are difficult to get a grasp on, do they like each other? or is there some spooky spell like reason behind it? i don't understanddddd!!! ( i kinda ship them though in all honesty ha ha ) Taylor as usual has provided a vivid backdrop to the tale , the blood , the gore , the frustration , the annoyances, the characters ..... oh yes oh yessss. She does paint a rather brilliant picture! I'm also coming to realise that she is quite the queen of the cliffhangers, i'm not sure i'm going to recover from the latest one, i may actually explode while trying to figure out what will happen next! So.... if no one hears from me for a while .... send my funeral bill to Taylor 'kay?
The Kings arrival has been much anticipated and his visit in HOUSE OF KINGS didn't disappoint.
Alivia is now a vampire and the King has arrived to help her get her house in order. Alivia has brought in a lot of allies and they're all as ready as they can be for the Kings visit, but it's just as hard as they expected. There are a lot of twists and turns thrown into HOUSE OF KINGS and a lot of drama. The bitten vampires are adding to the drama by continuing to kill and turn townsfolk. The story line continues to intrigue me and the characters continue to develop.
I can't say I'm surprised by the ending events of HOUSE OF KINGS because it just seems like something that would happen after the King gets through with The House of Conrath, but I can say I was surprised by some others reactions. There is no way that I won't be reading HOUSE OF JUDGES in June.
* This book was provided free of charge from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
This is the third book in the series - you have to read the other two books before this one or you will not understand what is going on.
The author knows how to keep you hanging on and wanting more from this series. The only part I didn't like is the cliffhanger at the end. Once again the author picks up from the last book and now you are more involved with the characters but have new questions and needing to know how things are going to end or what's going to happen.
When the King comes to town everything changes - Alivia will no longer be a human but a vampire as it is destined to be. Now she will have to see if she is the King's beloved but she has her house to make sure nothing goes wrong. With having the king in her house, the games will begin and there are things that will happen that you do not expect. Liv finds herself changing in a way that she never thought would be possible, she doesn't know if it's for the good or the bad.
You will get hooked and want to know what will happen, however you will not find that in this book as you will have a cliffhanger at the end. You will connect with the characters even more and feel like you are with them. This book will keep you on your toes.
I look forward to more in the series as I need to know what happens with everyone and need to see how things go.

I don't know what to say about this. After the arrival of Cyrus, it was all a hell of the book. Well, it was too damn interesting but the events, Cyrus being crazy to find his lost long wife Sevan and all. I think Cyrus of a psychopathic pain in ass. But the wonder is, he really was described as a very beautiful man. Yet his heart and a brain was demon's hell. But all of it was pure entertainment.
I ended this novel unsure if I want to continue now or give this series a break. The thing is, I was growing even more in love with this series until we got to the end and I thought, there must have been a better way to get her to Roter Himmel and her next door neighbour is off putting to say the least.
This was a more politically driven novel and I didn't mind the time spent with the King and his Court. I found his games to be entertaining and of purpose, despite their cruelty. He was the perfect balance between leader and psychopath but mostly he was just a psychopath.
Raheem though an interesting character, especially with his clothes off, confuses me as a possible love interest. I just didn't see or feel it. Same with her and Ian. I also found her actions throughout this novel to be questionable. To what end would you think to deceive your King and I have NO words for Rath's disloyalty. Simply put, Alivia Ryan is not the girl we met in book one and the vampire species get a F for loyalty.
For a moment there, it felt like when the vampires over ran Mystic Falls in Vampire Diaries and Luke was our Matt Donovan (maybe I watch too much tv/vamp series) anyways ...
There is still no hot vamp sex! How is this possible? Back to the overtly political nature of the novel and the fact that the King is pussy whipped by his 200 years old missing wife ... who I think might be alive and hiding from him.
I feel at some point in time, this series need to become a dual or multi POV novel. Now might be that time. There are so many elements and I feel like we can't cover them all if it is continued to be told by Alivia Ryan alone. I'm over the intrigue. I want to know everything!
I CANNOT take another bout with Ian Ward so I pray for the best and hope we get this "trial" over with soonest, so we can move back to Silent Bend and figure out what the hell Daphine is cooking up in that cabin!
**Warning: this text may contain spoilers** It definitely captivated me because I finished this book in one day. I was happy with the change of audiobook narrators because the previous books had so many mispronunciations.
I didn't like the final few chapters because they didn't make logical sense to me. Having everyone turn on her just because a piece of evidence was found in her room felt out of character for everyone. Then when she returns after escaping, she actually tries to bargain (and they let her do it) despite the fact that she's completely outnumbered and has no ground to stand on. It also makes no sense that Ian wouldn't just have been killed outright by the king and that Alivia wouldn't have assumed he was killed. But she operated as though she knew Ian had been put in prison. It felt like the author needed to get from point A to point B but did a flimsy job of justifying it.
I'm still rather impressed with the moral ambiguity of these books. I'm so used to PR books having heroines with a very clear sense of morality that never changes, but this character is constantly changing hers and wondering what she should do. And the road to where she is feels very natural.
Book 3, House of Kings, is a turning point for Liv as she learns more about what is expected of her by the House of Conrath. She will become one of them, a vampire, just like her father. The conflict and uncertainty Liv feels after learning this undeniable fact alters Liv's behavior and not in a good way. This book is consumed with her battle to determine how much of a change in her personality she can live with and except as her new normal. It doesn't help the vicious King Cyrus has arrived in town to play games and draw the worst out of Liv. I enjoyed this book and developed a strong dislike for the insane king and his influence on Liv's behavior. I found the story to be just as interesting as the first and second book and quickly read through each chapter wanting more. Couldn't put it down!!!
"Who drained me" moment was cringe as fuck. Aš iš karto žinojau kas, man to patikslinimo nereikėjo, bet taip "įdomiai" klausti... Cringe.
O pats karalius/princas... Nebepatinka visai. Ne tik dėl to blogio, bet ir dėl menkos, prastai atskleistos charakteristikos. 😬🤷🏻♀️
This is one addictive series!! It has you on the edge of your seat guessing what will happen next. Each book is more intense! My heart totally broke over and over again as Liv had to face goodbyes, betrayal, the unknown and one twisted King who rules them all. Just when Liv has everything handled, along comes another hurdle that seems insurmountable. The ending as always was quite the cliffhanger. If you've been craving the perfect vampire tale that touches upon the ages and is filled with excitement, punishment and simmering passions, this was written just for you ♡♡♡♡ Without a doubt, this is the most intriguing vampire series I've ever read and I absolutely love every single page!!
The grammatical errors are getting worse but the story is getting better - i am so conflicted 😂😭 The four stars is purely for the twists, I would love to just read about Cyrus. I liked Raheem in the previous book, but shocker, he's become just as boring as Ian. If I don't get Cyrus as a love interest i will be throwing hands I stg. Would have been 5 stars if not for the grammatical errors and the rushed ending - I get it, life can change in a second... But honestly they're all idiots to think a 20-odd-year-old could undermine thousands upon thousands of years of knowledge? Like come ON Markov and Samuel, you should know better.

There was a lot going on in this one thanks to King Cyrus’ arrival. I’m not a big fan of him anymore lol. At first I kind of liked him but then he did some f’d up, crazy 💩. Can he just go away now? I think he does have his own series later though that I’m definitely going to read. I need some more background info on him. I just want him out of Silent Bend and away from Alivia. The ending did have a bit of a shock this time (not the Ian part, I was expecting that, my poor baby 😭).
The King has arrived! The moment everyone in Silent Bend has dreaded, the King of the vampires is famous for his sick games. And there’s no way that Alivia is living through his visit. Not human anyway. As she gets pulled into the sick twisted games of blood and power that King Cyrus plays, she starts to lose more and more of herself. Will she come out of this as the person she wants to be, or will she become a shadow of the King?
Soooooo good, I'm so glad I kept reading be cause this series just got amazing! The long is psychotic and the plot thickens greatly, by the end of the book I was bouncing up and down yelling at the characters! So excited to start in on the next book and see where this trial goes!!!
The depth of the characters, the complexity of the politics, and the undeniable truth of the emotions portrayed draw you the more you read. I find myself fully wanting to emurse myself into this world. I cannot wait to see what House of Judges has in store.
The only reason I am still reading at this point is I want to know how the story ends and it is a fast enough read to get through the books way quickly.
I do really like the storyline as a whole, but I feel that the author jumps around with characters and hasn’t built them well.
I will keep reading to just find out what happens.
Overall this series is a major slow burn Though some things finally came to fruition in this book I still have several unanswered questions that I e had since book 1 and based on the ending of this book I’m highly doubting I’ll get those answers in the next book
I don't think I have ever read a series that has left me hanging for me at the end!! The cliff hangers just get better and better and I'm left for wanting more!! Fingers crossed that book 4 doesn't leave me disappointed!
The king’s visit was anticipated with fear and dread and it has finally arrived and he does not disappoint! This series is amazing and keeps you on your toes. Can’t wait to see what’s in store next for Liv and Ian.
This book left me w some questions... who the heck is daphne really? Who is the guy she sees when she dancing- she remembers him from 5 years ago-then there is no more mention of him?
I didn’t really like the first book but 2-3 have left me w a few questions, so onward I read
Okay, just popping in to say that this was my favorite book of the series, hence the five stars. It's kind of fucked up? But it's because the main character actually messes up in a truly relatable way. And the villain is somehow complicated while being crazy evil incarnate. I absolutely adored it.
