Amano’s art is compelling. His central motif is an aloof, melancholy woman surrounded by a sea of elaborate, diaphanous cloth. Rarely does he provide a full figure- a face, a hand, an occasional foot float like masks. The faces are almost incomplete, mere thin brushstrokes, and mostly colorless. All lines and an excess of color lead the eye to that blank spot, an absence of color. The result is dually of removed emphasis and hyper-focus.

The images in this book seem duller than those in Hiten. Several of my favorites are also smaller. However, this book does have a good variety of final images by Amano, including some overlap with the Sky series.

expansive collection of Amano in one volume. lovely to browse through and see the depth of his work. surprised that he was involved with Michael Moorcock's Elric of Melnibone series (but, it makes sense now). loved seeing the illustrations behind vampire hunter D and final fantasy.

Presents Amano's theater set and other work alongside his more well-known designs. Beautiful in range. Big enough to get lost in but small enough to not be unwieldy.

Worlds of Amano is an incredible art book that showcases the immense talent and imagination of Yoshitaka Amano. From the very first page, I was blown away by the stunning illustrations and intricate designs that bring Amano's vivid and fantastical worlds to life.

Each page is filled with breathtaking landscapes, surreal creatures, and fascinating characters that transport you to another dimension. Amano's use of color, light, and shadow is masterful, and his attention to detail is unparalleled. Whether you're a fan of fantasy, science fiction, or simply appreciate beautiful artwork, this book is a must-have.

What sets Worlds of Amano apart from other art books is the accompanying text, which provides insight into Amano's creative process and the inspiration behind each piece. It's clear that he puts a tremendous amount of thought and care into every element of his work, and it's a joy to read about his artistic journey.

Overall, Worlds of Amano is a true masterpiece that showcases the power of imagination and the beauty of art. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves to be transported to other worlds and to be inspired by the boundless creativity of one of the greatest artists of our time.
