Christmas in the arms of a handsome stranger wasn't on Katie's wish list, but she sure isn't going to say no and return him! Spending Christmas in a cozy cabin on Scarfell Mountain is a family tradition, and after a rough year that includes a recent breakup, Katie can't wait for a relaxing holiday with her parents. However, when she meets Noah, the new surly and reclusive stranger next door, her vacation turns to anything but relaxing! He’s smoking hot, cut in all the right places, but beneath all that muscle, Noah is hoarding a dark secret. And like a magnet being drawn towards him, Katie is determined to find out what it is… but not before her ex shows up and throws everything into chaos. Bear Naked for Christmas is a short holiday novella set on Scarfell Mountain in amongst the Bear Oak clan. It has hot and steamy scenes, features a guaranteed Happy Ending and no cliffhanger.
This was an enjoyable and drama-filled read, but I'm bummed that there was no talk of mates or the mate-bond between Noah and Katie! That's my favorite aspect of shifter novels, and it was completely absent here.
This is the perfect introduction to this author and this series. The characters grabbed my attention right away and when the drama started unfolding I just couldn’t turn away. I love how Noah is all in from the beginning and Katie can’t help but be swayed to his way of thinking. I only wish there was more, the story was over before I wanted it to end. Thank goodness there are more books to the series! I can’t wait to read them all.
I have read only one other book by this author, which was also a delightful holiday-themed novel centered around Valentine's Day. I truly enjoyed that story, so I was excited to dive into another of their works. From the very first page, this book managed to draw me in completely, holding my attention throughout the entire reading experience. I started late in the evening, and when I eventually had to put it down, I found myself eagerly anticipating the moment I could return to the story. Even though it’s a short story, I was so invested in the characters and their journey that I wished it could continue, just to learn more about this captivating couple.
While the main characters were engaging, I did feel that some of the supporting characters were somewhat underdeveloped. They still piqued my interest, and I could easily envision more depth and backstory that could be explored further. Additionally, I encountered a few issues with the writing, particularly concerning sentence structure. There were instances of awkward word placements, as well as some missing or incorrect words, which occasionally disrupted the flow of the narrative.
The protagonist, Katie, is a dedicated doctor who arrives at Scarfell Mountain for her family's annual holiday gathering, fully embracing a tradition that brings them all together. After a particularly challenging year, marked by the heartbreak of a recent breakup with her fiancé, Katie is looking forward to reconnecting with their cherished neighbor, a wonderfully sweet older gentleman known for his warmth and kindness. However, she is taken by surprise when she discovers that the neighbor has been replaced by a strikingly handsome young man. Their initial encounter sparks a surprising interest within her, but just as she begins to entertain the possibilities, the complications of her past begin to resurface in the form of her ex, creating a tangled web of emotions and drama.
Overall, this charming Christmas story encapsulates the essence of the holiday season, offering a blend of romance, laughter, and a touch of nostalgia. I would wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone looking for a heartwarming read that has all the elements to make your holiday season a little brighter.
A short story that introduces us to Scarfell Mountain. Katie has recently ended her engagement and is spending Christmas with her parents in the mountains she loves. There she meets the big beautiful Noah and then the rest of the book tells you what happens next. There were some really good bits and some really rushed bits. There were some ridiculous not very well thought through scenarios, and some hot and sexy scenes. So overall a bit of a mixed bag. However in a longer novel with more time and space to develop the characters and the landscape, this series may have some promise. A 3.5/5 stars from me.
This is a very short story. Katie is going to the cabin in the mountains to meet her parents for Christmas. They rent the cabin every year. On her way she sees what looks like someone breaking into the cabin next door. She confronts him, he is abrupt with her and tells her to leave. She is angry with him but feels attracted to him also. Noah is a bear shifter who moved into his uncle's cabin when he died a willed it to him. This is a fast insta love story that takes place over a couple of days. Her ex is the villain in the story that causes problems but ultimately is the reason they get together.
I apparently bought, read and reviewed this book in 2016 but have just reread it again through KU. Didn’t remember it at all so that says a lot. An easy read but can’t say it grabbed me. No real background or world building, no information about the mountain or anyone living there. Just a quick read that needs filling out. Believe this is the start of a series so maybe more comes along in next books. Liked Noah but didn’t get to know anything about him. Thought Katie was a bit quick to judge and dim witted for a doctor. Her actions in not kicking Simons ass enabled Simon to continue being a pain and to hurt Noah. Some silly errors slipped through proof reading
At least I did get through it. It wasn't so bad that I had to DNF. The story was good but it lacked in two areas that are quite important to me. First, the sexy talk was seriously bad. Like, "people mocking bad p*rn" bad. And second, the editing was weak. The typos were so abundant as to be distracting. Also, aren't black bears on the small side? Not huge like grizzlies or polar bears?
This was very interesting and I'm quite curious to learn more about Simon. He's s lowlife and i wanted to see all of his comeuppance. The story was sweet with plenty of steam. A real quick read.
Seven chapters is what you get here, they're seven well written chapters, but personally I would have liked it to have been longer just to answer some of my unanswered questions.
If you area fan of love at first sight, shifters and descriptive intercorse then this is the book for you. A fun little read which was not slow paced and had interesting characters. Not too Christmassy for you fellow grinches out there.
We are in the final throes of the 25 Lays of Smutmas. This is Lay number 24. I’ve already forgotten most of what happens here. There’s some bear shifters, corporate takeover of an entire mountain, an ex who may or may not have been murdered - it’s unclear.
The only thing missing is a final comeuppance for bad guy Simon - I'd have liked to have seen him get what-for from the hospital as well... But otherwise, it's a cute short story that introduces a new series.
Katie a Doctor and Human on her way for her family Christmas yearly reunion in the Scarfell Mountains. She new all the members of this little town. Noah a Black Bear Shifter had inherited his uncle's cabin. These two are Fated Mates!
I don't know what to say about this book? It started off drawing me in,good story line then bam a little action. However just as it drew me in it ended leaving me wondering what in the world? Ended flat!
This book was a quick read (for me) and I loved it. It was one of those feel good books that make you sigh at the end but had enough heat in it to keep your attention in it. :)
It started well then went downhill really fast. Which is a shame to be honest. Too quick in most places, holes in the plot and little to no character development.
Just the perfect story for something that is short and sweet. Though I truthfully would have loved for there to be more to the story. Will be reading more from this author.
This is the first book that I have read by Edith Hawkes and I have to say I found it really enjoyable. My attention was grabbed from the beginning and held to the end. The characters of the book worked really well with the story line. I like a book that has a story line where there is a woman being abused and then she is rescued by her knight in shining armor. Every girls fantasy is to find her knight in shining armor. I think I could relate to the book because of my own personal experiences of being in a similar situation as Katie. I think having a huge grizzly bear come to your rescue is even better than a knight in shinning armor. This is a book I recommend for anybody over the age of 18.
Katie is on her way to Scarfell Mountain where her and her folks always spend Christmas. She has had a rough year and that includes finding out that her fiance has mental problems. She hasn't yet told her parents of the breakup, and then she realizes she didn't give his ring back. The snow is starting to pick up and as she gets closer to the cabin she and her parents are staying in she notices a man on poor Mr. Jenkins porch and he looks to breaking in. Little did she know that meeting Noah, the grumpy man next door was going to make her vacation anything but relaxing!
Noah is the handsome man next door. He inherits the cabin from Mr. Jenkins. He is hiding a secret and that secret is best kept a secret until he can get to know Katie better. Katie is determined to find out why she is drawn to Noah. Then Katie's ex-fiance` shows up and throws everything into chaos.
No secrets revealed from the book. You will have to read it if you want to know what happens between Katie, Noah, and her ex-fiance! Promise you will not be disappointed.
Katie is seeking a family holiday, not a grieving neighbor
Noah doesn't make the best possible first impression on Katie, but he is man enough to move forward in all the best possible ways as Katie celebrates Christmas in the mountains with her parents, and debates whether or not her family truly needs to know all the details of why her engagement fell apart.
This quick read is a done in one story with a lot of joy and love, but it also manages to spend time on some very important matters, like grieving, facing the holidays alone... and then there's Katie's ex.
This novella packs a lot of material, and thought into its pages.
