Makoto Amano wants to become an actor, but his stern father has decreed that the only way Makoto can pursue his dream is to spend the last two years of high school as a girl! He quickly makes friends with popular tomboy Ito Miura, another drama enthusiast at this new high school and the only student to find out his secret--but are they more than pals?
Graduation is only months away, and keeping Makoto's gender a secret is more challenging than ever! Since Makoto's father is dead-set against his son's choice of profession, he has decided not to attend the graduation ceremony. But Ito is intent on strengthening the bond between Makoto and his father. She convinces Makoto to spend the New Year's holiday with his family in the hope that the pigheaded patriarch will change his mind. Makoto is quite confident in his acting skills, but will his persuasive abilities measure up?
this is my favorite book in the series. though in this book and in the next book, and occasional cross-eyed look happens more and more often. do all of the characters have lazy-eye?
speaking of inconsistent artwork, there's ito's hairstyle. her hair goes from being really thick to the nape of her neck to her hair still having the same thickness but to her shoulders, to being really thin, layered, and at the nape of her neck, then back to shoulders and original thickness, then reversed back to the original hairstyle of the book. supposedly she isn't cutting her hair. then there's every now the top of her hair, it goes from being layered starting at about eye level to being so short that it sticks up. i understand bedhead, and how ponytails looks different then being down (which i always get irked about how it's rarely depicted that there's any change in length when put up), but i don't think i'm being unreasonable when i'm asking for some consistency.
i still don't understand why mokoto's wig had to come off. he didn't give her his hat (which for some reason the hair was attached to) and it appears as though he only gave her his jacket (something he could have unzipped, not lift over his head and knock off the hair). it would have been smart to give her a hat, you loose a ton of body heat through the top of your head. side tip, if the snow is powdery, it is highly absorbent and you can use it to dry yourself off after falling into a frozen lake. gotta love "man vs. wild." er um, back to book #13- i guess emura wanted just about everyone keeping makoto's secret and her brothers finding out before graduation.
I love this gender-bender, funny, romantic, a little paranormal manga.
Ito Miura is a tomboyish girl whose looks and attitude makes her easily mistaken for a boy. As a member of the drama club she always play male roles. Soon she meets the new transfer student Makoto who is a beautiful girl, who is really a guy in disguise. Makoto has made a deal with his father, to be able to follow his dream of becoming an actor, he must attend high school as a girl and nobody must know. So when Ito finds out the secret by accident she swears she won't tell. This starts their weird friendship that soon turns into a strong bond...love...
Throughout the story there were a lot of love stories that come into play as examples which the witness and strength their love.
This volume is a lot of fun. In the beginning of the volume Ito and Mako have a very chaotic Christmas date were they end up trying to avoid running into several of their friends as well as some family at an amusement park. Then the next chapter has a very brief mention of New Year. The theater troup audition is a lot of fun to read as well.
So many loose ends have finally been tied! Only one more volume left! If you'd asked me while I was reading volumes 3-6 how I felt about the series having only 14 volumes, I'd have said: "Well, it is a little redundant." But now, I'm not sure if I'm ready to say goodbye to Ito and Makoto, and the rest of the gang...
