New Light is shed on thirty-three of the greatest enigmas of all time, strange disappearances, problems of identity, curious happenings, and other mysteries that have intrigued the world for centuries. Many of these mysteries have never been solved. Did Joan of Arc survive after the burning at Rouen? What really happened to Amelia Earhart? What was the fate of Count Konigsmark? Is there a mystery about the parentage of Prince Albert? What caused Commander Crabb's disappearance under the waters of Portsmouth Naval Base while Russian warships were anchored there? Are the British people the lost tribe of Israel? Ghosts and treasure troves also find their place in this fascinatiing collection of tales. Presented and assessed are the facts and theories about the Monster of Glamis, the desecration of the Barabbas tomb, the haunting of the Borley Rectory, and the devil's footprints in Devonshire. The stories of the Lost Dutchman mine in Arizona and the treasure cache in the South Seas raise the question of how much hidden wealth lies awaiting discover.
I found this book very interesting and would read it again. The book The world`s most intriguing true mysteries is very well laid out. The book goes into great detail on the information it has. Also the way a book gives the reader the information gathered is very important and this book did a good job of that. This collection of mysteries was put together by Rupert Furneaux. He has written many other book such as Buried treasure, Volcanoes (Explorer; 13), On Buried, and Sunken Treasure (Explorer). After reading only one of the short stories I could not stop. Also the fact that all of them are true is astounding to me. Also for this being a short stories collection all of the stories were very well put together. With the length not being to terribly long per story he got the point across very well. This book includes stories ranging from murders, lost cities, to lost person cases, and everything in between. He was very descriptive in his writings and is very good at getting his point across. Compared to some other short stories I have read. The great thing about this book is it is easy to read and understand. In a choice I would chose this book again and again. The reason for that is because every time you read it a new detail comes to mind that you missed the first time around. Also it is fun to try and figure out the mystery yourself because you only have the information that is provided. It is not like a regular mystery book because in those you have a third person view. Here you are reading in the first person view so you only have what they give you. All in all by the end of the book I really liked it.
I have been reading this book off and on for quite awhile now. It's filled with over 21 strange and baffling events. Some were better than others, but that's to be expected.
