PSYCHIC CAFETERIA SHOWDOWN! Under his father's disapproving eyes, Sano faces his own brother in a high-jump competition! Then, a schoolwide treasure hunt turns into a grudge match between Kayashima and his self-proclaimed rival, Modoru the onmyôji, a traditional Japanese occultist. Will psychic powers or black magic prevail? But Modoru has something else on his side: the power of cuteness!
Hisaya Nakajo (中条比紗也) was a Japanese shōjo manga artist. She also used the names Peco Fujiya and Ryou Fumizuki for doujinshi with her circle, Daisanteikoku.
Why the treasure hunt? It added nothing to the story and took a lot of place while all I was interested was Sano and his father. It's a shame because the rest was very good.
Volume 18 feels like the writers threw romance, slapstick, and school drama into a blender and hit turbo. Mizuki keeps skirting disaster with her secret, while Nakatsu’s brain is in a constant state of romantic buffering. The side characters bring their own brand of chaos, making every scene feel like a mini comedy skit. Four stars for the laugh-out-loud moments, the slow-burn tension, and the fact that no one in this school seems to understand basic observation skills.
This is when the series becomes too much filler and starts to drag. The treasure hunt in this was such a waste of time. It distracted from the primary story and added nothing to the plot. The main things that happen in this are that Nakatsu gets rejected, Sekime has a girlfriend, and Izumi patches things with his dad. It’s all kind of meh. However, Sano looks good in that dark coat paired with a tie, visiting his dad in the hospital. 3/5

The scavenger hunt arc was very cute and lighthearted, but the placement of it was off. It was harder to appreciate because it didn’t flow with the chapter before it. Other than that, this was a solid volume. We get to explore characters and their relationships a little deeper.
Lower rating because of how the story was broken up here. It was weird and awkward. Don't stop the main story to throw an out of place side story in the middle. Then, just pick the main story line back up like nothing was out of place about it.
Memang salah satu tokoh harus sakit atau kecelakaan dulu ya baru dia bisa baikan sama tokoh lain. -_- Kasihan deh orang-orang yang bertengkar dan sehat terus.
I loooooooove this series. But this volume? Nope. It was pretty irritating. It started out great and I was all caught up in it, then woooosh! What is this? Now they're on a treasure hunt? No! Get back to the main story! No filler!!! Rawr! But it took up the entire juicy middle of the manga. Only the beginning and the end were the main story. PLUS, there was an extra at the very end taking up some /more/ space. -_- I admit it was a cute extra, but still. That's what was going on in there. Filler. The treasure wasn't even very enjoyable. I didn't like that stupid new character either. Whatever his name is. Kayashima doesn't need some dumb psychic rival. yawn.
Yay for Nakatsu! I really am proud of him, and Mizuki too. I was worried she would waver and get involved in some stupid love triangle, and that Nakatsu would make it worse by being a jerk. But he's not, and she's not. They're both very mature and responsible.
I'm also proud of Sano for maturing. He and Mizuki are so cute.
I don't know about that weird interlude with the treasure hunt though. It was right in the middle of an important plot and I was really confused for a minute... just odd placement.
Nakatsu! That piece at the beginning was brilliant. I love the moments we get to peek under Nakatsu's goofy exterior and see the extent to which he's an emotional being. Speaking of that, Sano needs to get his emotions sorted out. I find it a big squiggy how he gets angry and hostile whenever he's jealous of Mizuki spending time with anyone else.
(Also, I know that the author added in the treasure hunt special for the 100th chapter, but it was a bit of a snooze. One of Hana-Kimi's strengths is its story arcs, I believe.)
"Well, Mizuki... Am I not good enough?" "Can I really not take Izumi place?" "I kind of figured... you would say something like that."
Ouch, poor Nakatsu. Sometimes I think that Mizuki should ended up with him. Sorry Izumi fans, but he hurt her a lot. Arggh,I do really hate all this triangle-love-thing :|
I love this series so much!! What I don't get is how there was a chapter in which Sano's father collapsed, and then the next to chapters were about a treasure hunt. And then suddenly it went back to the situation with his father?? Weird xD
