The second volume and we meet Mizuki’s brother, Sano’s rival, and Mizuki’s secret almost comes out to everyone.

I am having so much fun reading this manga series. It is so cute, but very very shoujo. I know, it is shoujo, but sometimes shoujo just goes beyond it. 😛 I still think it is hilarious that Mizuki only thinks that one person knows her secret while in actuality it is 2 (and maybe a couple who are suspicious). It caused some hilarious scenes as Sano, the crush, knows the secret, while Mizuki doesn’t know that. She does some girly things (and later even has to wear girls clothes) and is worried he may find out. Girl, he already knows and he loves it. He doesn’t mind it at all.

Mizuki was such a sweet one in this one. I love how supportive she is for Sano, but also for her other friends. She really makes friends easily and I was delighted with that. She is working hard at school, I love how well she adapted to the school. I know, from books/shows/documentaries, that schools are quite different in Japan and America.

In this one Sano was working hard to get back to jumping. He is training hard, getting over that mental block. Yep, because his body is fine. He is just afraid. I was so rooting for the guy to get back to awesome level. I knew he had it in him, he just needed someone to root for him in a natural (and not pushy) way. Because we saw how the manager did things to Sano and how that totally went against everything.

I was a bit put off by Nakatsu and how he keeps saying he isn’t gay as if it is something bad. Yes, Mizuki is a girl. We know that and 2 others as well. But even if she wasn’t. Being gay is not bad. It may be a bit of a shock to find out you like both girls and boys, I can imagine, but come on dude. Just chill.

The brother was quite annoying. I could understand he worries. While his sister is 16 year old it is her first time away from family and friends and she is all alone in a pretty unknown country. So yeah, while I don’t agree with his actions in this one for most, I can also see that he does it because he cares and he loves his sister a lot.
That doesn’t excuse him from being a homophobe and acting like a total dickwad towards the doctor. That doesn’t excuse him from almost exposing his sister in front of her school. That doesn’t excuse him from being mean towards Sano. That doesn’t excuse him pushing and giving a requirement for his sister to stay. Boy oh boy.

Kagurazaka, I wasn’t a fan of him. He just has way too much ego for me, and I didn’t like how he handled Mizuki. I am a bit worried how this plotline will continue. I hope he doesn’t keep popping up at random times to just make stupid remarks about Sano.

How did the guys get sake? Why are they getting drunk so often? I thought the age of drinking (and buying) was 20? So that was a bit weird. Also, if you know you do weird stuff when drinking? Maybe not drink and destroy something you like.

But this was a fun volume with romance, humour, lots of shoujo tropes, and of course sports. I cannot wait to read the next volumes and see what happens next. Will Sano tell Mizuki he knows her secret? Will they start dating? is excited

Re-read. The art has already improved (argh Sano under the shower!) and the story is less messy than in the 1st volume. Mizuki cried several times and, of course, my eyes were watering, it's really a story I'm always involved in (even after more than 5 re-reads). Sano did great (and was drunk, ahem) and really started building links with Mizuki. The scenes between the brother and the doctor were very funny, adding an humorous touch to the most heavy part. A good sequel, with plenty of feelings.

It's been so long since I read the first volume, I can't remember exactly what it was I didn't like about it. Either way, this volume is much improved. Since I can't make a comparison, I can't say why. Just that it's worth sticking it out to the second volume if you didn't like the first.

The story could reasonably end here, with the start of Mizuki's sophomore year and Sano . But it goes on for another 21 volumes! Comedy's a hard sell for me at that length, and this is decent but nowhere close to extraordinary, so we'll see how well it holds up as the chapters go by.

A fun entry that has cemented my desire to keep reading. I probably wouldn’t buy these, but as library borrows they are fun little diversions.
These feel like early authorial efforts, and that’s not a bad thing. I think they show a lot of potential, even if different aspects are still a bit lacking.

Volume 2 is where the “keep the secret” game truly begins, and the close calls come faster than a track meet. Between accidental room invasions, suspicious classmates, and Nakatsu developing what might be the funniest slow-burn crush in manga history, it’s a riot from start to finish. Four stars for escalating the comedy without missing the heart.

I'm finding this series a bit hard to follow so far. I'm not the best manga reader, but I'm looking at a pretty high confused:following ratio for so early in the series. Maybe it'll get better as I become more familiar with the characters, the writer, etc.

This manga is a bit hard to follow for me. I'm going to read Volume 3, but after that I probably won't continue on with the series.

Mizuki dirundung.

I am slowly re-reading this manga series. I first read this in middle school and since then I’ve returned from teaching English in Japan. I now see this in a different way since I have more of an understanding of school life in Japan. I think I’m having more fun, potentially. Anyways, volume two was actually super entertaining. I’m living for the interactions between Sano and Mizuki. Plus, we get the iconic Dr. Umeda in a bikini scene. There’s also a first kiss and Sano’s rival makes a fun first appearance as well. I totally forgot about Mizuki’s brother. He’s annoying but his screen time is limited. Wait! We technically get two kisses in this. Anywho, I seriously enjoyed myself. Five out of five deserved!

This manga has Like 150 chapters. I'm in chapter 10 and I feel like the story is progressing really slowly. There are so many unecessary, weird and cliche situations that could have been avoided. I'm not a master at telling stories but from the point of view where I am now, this manga feels endlessly long and I think the story could have been told with less chapters. Maybe I'll change my mind later on as I keep reading the manga but for now this is what I think.

I enjoyed this volume. It's 4.5/5 for me. I had to knock half of a star off, since I thought the school doctor behaved inappropriately. He exchanged a passionate kiss with his boyfriend at work. I know it was after work hours, but, like, that was not that the place to do that. Also, I didn't like how the doctor treated Mizuki's brother, kissing him without consent. (I don't think his boyfriend would appreciate that, either). Still a fun read though!

The first two volumes of this series can be a bit choppy and hard to follow. The authors gets better with smoother storytelling as she goes along. That being said, there is so much to love about this volume. Umeda is iconic in this volume. The character interactions are fantastic and we get TWO whole kisses in this volume alone. I’m not a fan of Mizuki’s brother’s homophobia. But as I said, Umeda is iconic.

There's so many assholes in this one.
Asshole #1: Kagurazaka, Izumi's rival.
Asshole #2: Nakao, Mizuki's rival who for some reason she befriends after she finds out he's bullying her. Fuck that, I would've beat his twink-ass.
Asshole #3: Shizuki, Mizuki's brother who for some reason fucking hates Izumi. And he's also homophobic. Fuck that dude, man. I'm glad the doctor told his bitch-ass off.

Good story and great graphics. It has its moments for sure, but I did enjoy the first volume more. It's was interesting to see the challenges Sano and Mizuki have to face in this volume and I was satisfied with the outcomes. Nakatsu is still my favorite and he literally makes me laugh out loud. I'm definitely going to finish the next volume tonight.

La fandom que llevo dentro quiere ponerle un 3 mínimo, pero no puedo darle esa nota a un manga que bromea sobre la homofobia. Me parece que la intención no es mala, pero hay algunas bromas que están fuera de lugar.

I definitely know, how Ashiya Mizuki feels. Because, like her I’m also a fan. So, it must be nice to cross the world, just to meet your idol. Got to know him not just by papers and tv, but personal too. Getting close to him as well, being friends or more than that.

Decently done. I don’t understand how people haven’t found out Sano’s secret yet. And the cliches about Americans in here are also incorrect.

Not much to say. Not my favorite but not exactly the worst thing I’ve read.

Still fluffy as ever, with the addition of Shizuki, Mizuki's homophobic, overbearing brother. Can I say that I'm really starting to like the school nurse?

So it's still bad for 2020 standards; that whole half-brother trope was...really bad, but for the 90's it was really distinct and I'm so glad that folks had been able to grow up with this series.

Dropping this series as I’m not enjoying it and the plot is all over the place, much as I love a good cross dressing enemies to lovers.
