MALE MODELS Tired of Sano and Mizuki taking their relationship so slow, Julia confronts Sano to get him moving faster. But Sano has more things to worry about...his younger brother, Shin, has run away from home! Then, when a photo of Minami, Nakatsu and Sano appears in a girls' fashion magazine, the men of Hana-Kimi find themselves stalked...and propositioned!
Hisaya Nakajo (中条比紗也) was a Japanese shōjo manga artist. She also used the names Peco Fujiya and Ryou Fumizuki for doujinshi with her circle, Daisanteikoku.
A really fun volume in the series, argh, just got one left before I got to search for the rest.
In this one Julia is determined to find out if Sano knows about Ashiya and what his feelings are, we see more about Shin and learn more about Sano’s family, and lastly, remember that photograph that was taken last volume? The boys are famous now!
I really had fun reading this one, I especially loved the part where Julia decides to find out if Sano knows, and what his feelings are. I loved that Julia did this for her best friend, and I am glad that Sano finally came clear. OK, it is not to Ashiya, but it is a start and I hope that it doesn’t take much longer for him to confess to Ashiya. I did love his expression when he said those words, even he was surprised by himself.
We also learn more about Sano and his family and it really made me happy. Yes, it was also sad, because of what was going on, but for most I was just so happy that we learn more about characters other that Ashiya.
And lastly we end with the boys going famous which let to some very cringey/hilarious scenes. I did feel sorry for the guys and wish the girls would have acted a bit more normal. How one photograph can lead to this, and I am guessing given the story isn’t over yet that it will continue the next volume. I wonder what the boys will decide. Will they go with the photographer and do a shoot, or not. And what is the history between the photographer and school doctor? MMM, I need more deets.
Oh, and that new teacher. GOSH, if you hate kids/teens so much maybe you shouldn’t be teaching. The things he said and did… meh! I am glad that people stood up against him and notified him of the rules (as he clearly doesn’t know all of them). I am a bit worried he will be back in the next volumes… I just hope that the other teacher comes back soon!
Once again, Nakatsu and Julia. Really, Nakatsu, stop being such a freaking dick. You are already not my favourite character but your remarks just make me dislike you even further. Calling her all sorts of names, going full confrontational if you even glimpse a little bit of her. It was just cringey and I would have loved someone to just smack Nakatsu on the head for being a dick. OK, Julia was doing fine on her own, but I would have liked someone to also step up. Now everyone was just laughing uncomfortably about it.
I am sad that Julia is leaving, but I had a feeling she wouldn’t be here for the full run. I will miss her and seeing her have such a good time (well, minus the whole Nakatsu situation) in Japan. Making new friends quite quickly, adjusting quite well, and more.
All in all, a great volume and I love seeing Ashiya and Sano have little moments together. I can’t wait for more moments!
Volume 8 feels like the authors asked, “How many misunderstandings can we fit in before lunch?” and then actually did it. Between goofy competitions and accidental intimacy, the tension between characters is both sweet and absurd. Four stars for non-stop laughs and the fact that nobody in this school questions anything.
Honestly, Julia and Nakatsu were such a missed opportunity. On the other hand, Sano and Mizuki are practically a couple. They both like each other and want to touch and be with each other. Well, it’s going to drag a bit from here, but that’s alright. I’m excited to see more of Shin again and Nakatsu’s development. 3.8/5

Another wild storyline. They come back from the trip and somehow the men end up in a magazine and stalked by many many women. I mean does that happen in Japan?
This may contain spoilers for any previous volumes.
While I enjoyed this, it wasn’t my favorite. They’re headed in the right direction, but I have to agree with Julia. It’s taking Sano and Mizuki way too long too long to admit their feelings for each other and for Sano to tell Mizuki he knows she’s a girl.
I hate to see Julia go because I love her. She was the only one who knew what was going on. It just goes to show that women are intuitive. She might be meddling, but it’s for their own good. Mizuki mostly spends the volume worrying about Sano’s family issues, which is just like her. She’s so selfless most of the time… except the whole moving to Japan to meet her idol thing.
Some new characters are introduced: a photographer (Hara) who wants to photograph Sano, Nakatsu, and Nanba. There’s also Mr. Kitahama, who is the new dean or something like that. These introductions lead into the next volume after Nakatsu gets in trouble with Mr. Kitahama and the mention of Hara makes Umeda freak out. I guess I’ll see what the deal is in the next volume.
This volume had a good start, then it got a little boring. Then, it got better at the end because there was all this new stuff. I have to keep reminding myself that there are way more volumes so things just aren’t going to happen as fast as I want.
Oh my god!!!1! I loooove this seriesss!! It's my favorite shoujo series and my second favorite manga series of ALL TIME! I just love everything about it!! I would totally do what Mizuki did.. though I don't think I could get away with it.... especially not in a Japanese school... -_- WELL! That's just not fair. Anyway, It's sooooo funny! AH! It's all so great! I can't contain the fan-girl in me! :O I even loved the TV series! (Especially the Taiwanese one! Ella and Jiro were hilarious!)
I binge read all of Hana Kimi. It's easy to see why that is so easy once you get into the second chapter of the series. Hana Kimi is filled with complex character moments, tension, and fun. All the characters come to life and its hard to put the story down. I've read my fair share of manga over the years and will continue to. I have the feeling that Hana Kimi will remain one of my favorites. I can't wait to get in a reread.
So the Hokkaido trip is ending....and Nakatsu's operation "Getting intimate with Mizuki" is a failure. Always having to deal with lots of hindrances, what will he do now? Fate's smiling down on him for Julia left... but then... at the end of this volume, his teacher caught him with notes during their exams...
Chapters 37 - 42: The story arc involving Julia comes to an end during this volume but there is still plenty of drama going on. Sano's younger brother makes a brief appearance as well as a photographer interested in having Minami, Sano, & Nakatsu model for him. I look forward to reading more of this series.
I liked Julia more in this one than the last, and that's saying something because I liked her alot in the last one! The charcters are really growing on me and becoming more distinct and seperate, what a shame I only own up to Volume 9. If Dymock's don't stock the three pack volumes I've been reading after this set, I'll be pretty devo'd, I can tell you.
I'm not a huge fan of Julia, but she did me proud in this volume. Still, I was kind of happy to see her go. As I always say, I'm really enjoying the plot progression. It's slow, but still moving.
This new plotline with Mr. Kitahama makes me very uncomfortable, and I'm not sure why. I just get a very insidious feeling about it.
This is definitely one of the better H-K volumes so far, with characters doing more proactive things in regard to the main story drive (Mizuki & Sano). I'm much fonder of Nakatsu (always been fond actually, but still much fonder), now that it's (as he sees it) a non-issue and accepted part of life that he's attracted to a boy.
Ok, but the ending is so totally shark jumpy (world of high fashion? Really?) Yet I keep getting sucked in by the pulp. And the smarmy hot mess of Minami.
