She was a slave to one man's obsessions...and a captive to one man's desire.... Shadowmere was a land shrouded in darkness, protected by magic and the fierceness of its people. The normals who ventured into the forbidden land seldom returned...and those that did were driven mad.... With his fell reach, Lord Conrad captured one of the fabled beastpeople from Shadowmere to break the curse holding Lady Ashanti in thrall, his lust for her driving his depraved will above all else.
Ashanti could not bear the innocent shifter's blood on her head and vowed to free him at any cost. But she did not anticipate the unbidden desire he aroused in her when in his presence, nor did she expect her untamed captive would soon become her master....
Jaide Fox has always had a passion for fantasy and the paranormal, having discovered both at a young age and devouring every book she could get her hands on, watching every movie that even hinted at her interests. It wasn't until she was in high school that her mother introduced her to romance--and she was hopelessly hooked.
Eroticism has never really been a part of fantasy, nor romance, and Jaide craved to see the two combined. Not able to find anything on the current market, she decided she'd write her own books to satisfy herself.
Jaide hopes readers will enjoy her first offering from NCP. She has many more novels planned and is currently breathing life into other adventures.
She lives in the middle of nowhere in a swamp, surrounded by all sorts of wild creatures (including snakes and spiders--which she gets rid of on sight!) and one mottled black cat who ambushes her from time to time.
"Untamed", also released as "Mark of the Beast" is fantasy romance set in an alien world of shifters, sorcerers, and scantily clad women. The book cover reminds me of the old "Gor" series by John Norman, which is what drew me to this book to meet a reading challenge.
Ashanti is our scantily clad woman, cursed by a witch with some mysterious curse that she will die if she has sex with someone. Or maybe her partner will die. Or maybe not? Perhaps the curse can be lifted by a shifter? All of this seems very important, but is poorly laid out. Good thing a shifter happens to be captured by the very evil Lord Conrad, who plans to use him to lift Ashani's curse so he can partake of her goods. :)
Blaisen, our leopard shifter, wants nothing to do with any of this, and soon escapes with the help of the clueless Ashanti, and off they go into the jungles and cross the borders into his lands, the mysterious and deadly Shadowmere. Which doesn't seem all that mysterious and deadly, except that perhaps the local leadership, such as Blaisen and the wolf shifter Raphael, seemed consigned to the fact that the local laws and regulations that govern their society are a little barbaric in its treatment towards woman. But hey, why change something that's been around for ages?
So, in the end, Ashanti gets all upset about her public claiming, escapes into the dangerous clutches of Lord Conrad (again), and is rescued (again) by our virtuous but also clueless Blaisen. A nice HEA is had by all.
I did enjoy this book and will be following up with its sequel shortly. Nicely done entertainment.
Hard to classify. I felt like I was reading a historic romance...but with shape-shifters, blue-haired sorcerers and magic poisoned swords. Heroine was kind of a pushover. Although there were traces of erotica in this book, I wouldn't really classify it as erotica.
Didn't hate it, but not recommending as anything other than filler reading material.
