I fell in love with 'The Captive' series when I stumbled, by chance, upon the first book, 'Captured'. It was one of the best freebies I've read to-date, and I highly recommend it if you haven't read it. (Link: http://smile.amazon.com/dp/B0087G3U92 ) Six books later, and I still love this series!
'Vengeance' tells the story of Aria's twin brother, William, as he tries to adjust to his new life as a vampire. Despite his immortality, he finds life as a vampire to be cold and empty. His anger at Kane, the man who killed him, and his need for vengeance has become his sole purpose.
William's quest for revenge leads him to the rural mountain villages of the kingdom. Along the way, he passes through a town that appears to be abandoned. However, when he looks closer, he discovers that the townspeople have been the victims of unspeakable cruelties. He doesn't know who is responsible, or why, but keeps pushing forward on his journey.
When a nearly-frozen vampire female crosses his path in the midst of a blizzard, William saves her. Famished and tired, Tempest is nursed back to health by William. The two become fast friends and Tempest tells William of her desperate escape from her village, which has been overrun by a sort of vampire army. She had left in order to obtain help for the children at the orphanage where she had been raised, and now helped care for.
The two set out to gather Intel on the invaders and rescue the children from the town. Kane is among the invaders and William finally has his revenge within his grasp. As the days pass, William and Tempest grow closer and more intimate. Soon, they cannot fight their growing attraction.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book. It adds another layer to this ongoing series. I liked William and Tempest's story, but have to admit that it didn't move me the way Braith and Aria's story did. I'm not sure that any of the other couples in this series will ever be able to compare to the intense love story that began this series. This book also foreshadowed events yet to unfold in the series which are very upsetting. I'm just hoping that Aria's fears are ill-founded.
Years ago after reading the first four books in this series I thought that was it. I even started my review of Salvation with ‘This is the last book in this series...’ how wrong was I? It was years before I realised it continued. Anyway I’m doing another series re-read. It’s the first time I’ve read this one but I enjoyed it. I love William and I’m happy he found his other half. The story is good and leaves us wondering what is coming.
William is one of my favorite characters in this series. His story is captivating and in a sense healing. On one hand I had wished for a bit more connection between him and Tempest, yet on the other hand in some ways it seems this was the perfect story for him.
Tempest was not the FMC I had wanted for William in the beginning, but as the novel progress a fighter began to emerge. Book 7 I have a strong feeling we will see a force to be reckoned with.
HUGE plus to book 6 is the storyline! OMG the plot is amazing! The idea that there is someone coming for Briath that could be more powerful??!!
Book 7 is the last which breaks my heart.....but I believe it is going to be an exciting ending!
Love Erica Stevens, I do. I love this series, I do. BUT I am so tired of every single vamp finding their damn bloodlink when it's supposed to be fucking RARE. First Aria, then Jack, and then SPOILER ALERT William. If it is so damn rare, why is everyone finding their bloodlink?! This is probably my main issue with this book. William is a smartass and I love him for that! I can relate to him! We went on a journey with William. He was really struggling with who he was and what he has become. It was always a battle between good and evil. It was nice to see him grow and to see him become the vampire he is now. This got me really excited for the next one! YES, THERE IS GOING TO BE A NEXT ONE and I cannot wait!!
I really enjoyed reading about William and Tempest. I liked how the author has William focused on revenge only to have his focus switch to Tempest. This was definitely a good read. I’m curious as to who the “real” queen is and how she’s related to Braith.
What an amazing book. New characters, new trouble on the horizon for the new government. Seeing Braith and Aria in the book is just an added plus. I loved Tempest, she thinks she's not a fighter, but this girl is a true fighter. William on a mission of vengeance, runs into fate in the middle of a snowstorm. You get to see the true William, he's not longer just Aria's brother, he becomes bigger than life. The consummate hero. All I can say is what are you waiting for, dig in now, it's so good you're gobble it up. I love Erica Stevens and The Captive Series will always remain my fav
This book was so good! I’ve always adored William and I’m happy that his story turned out the way it did. Tempest is one of the best heroines and she was a true badass in her own way. One of my favorites scenes was with her that had me on the edge of my seat. I’m so worried who this new threat is and I can’t wait to start the next book. I’m so sad it’s the end of one of the best paranormal series but I’m excited to see Aria, Braith and everyone else get their happy ending. 4 Stars!
I liked this one, although I had more problems with it than I did with the other books. One thing is that I'm getting a bit annoyed of all three heroines being the same. Their characteristics for example. They're all tall, willowy, skinny, poor, pretty, but not necessarily beautiful, and my favorite, they're all of course, virgins. Now Aria I didn't mind being a virgin because her background and age make sense with it, and I loved Braith and his patience. I forgave the second heroine too, but the third? Now it's just too much. Especially because William is only 19, so she is older than him and STILL super inexperienced and naive and it really grated on my nerves.
But then again, even though William is only 19, he's a lot like Jack, so besides Aria and Braith, I think the author just doesn't have any creativity when it comes to characters. She does a great overall plot, but I need something different with the characters. Yes their hair and eye color may be different, but besides that, they all literally might be the same person (except Aria though because she can be badass, and Braith because I love him). They're all too much alike, which then made this book and the last book way too similar, making it boring, which sucks because I was looking forward to Williams book. Luckily their past manwhore ways and the virginity parts aren't thrown in your face or anything like that, I am just annoyed of there being nothing different.
Besides all that, this book did drag in some parts, and I started skimming some because I got bored, but towards the end the book finally got good. And I totally cried a little on that ending with Aria, especially because I love her and Braith so much. I'm glad the author decided to write the conclusion back in Aria and Braith's POV, so I know it will be good and I'm excited to get back to them.
Review by Whitney at The Club I received and ARC for an honest review.
Let me just say holy wow! The first 4 books of this series introduced you to all the characters but revolved around Aria and Braith. The stories after were the other characters stories. If you remember Aria had a twin brother William... Well this is his story.
William was murdered by a vampire during the war for peace between vampires and humans. Aria gave him a choice to live as a vampire or die. He chose to live so he could exact his revenge on the malicious vampire who stabbed him fatally in the back. He has nothing in him but hate and revenge as he sets out to find this monster and nothing or nobody will get in his way until Tempest.
Tempest's tiny and quiet town gets taken over by an army of vampires with a female leader claiming to be the true queen but she doesn't believe her so she sets out to save the children in her orphanage by finding help before the army murders any more innocent lives. Running into William she never expected to find the king and queens brother but is grateful. As they plan to save her town and get word back to Aria and Braith they somehow find that they have come to mean more to each other than they had planned. Both have an objective but neither are ready for the shit storm they find themselves in when it comes to their feelings for each other.
Omg I just gotta say loved it. I seriously cannot wait to read more. It's a cliffhanger and will leave you frustrated to find out what happens next but oh so worth it.
I give it a ten stars :) lol ok 5 stars since that's as high as it goes.
I am so in love with the Captive series, and this book brings us the story of William – twin brother of Aria - and it’s another great ride as we are taken back to the world of humans and vampires for an exciting and romantic story that I couldn’t put down.
I wouldn’t recommend reading this book as a standalone as there is a lot of context and backstory that you don’t want to miss out on. And be aware that this review will contain spoilers for the earlier books.
Newly-minted vampire, William, is on a quest for revenge against the man who ended his mortal life. His mission takes him on a journey into the mountains and away from his loved ones, but he is driven by his unquenchable anger and his need for vengeance, and he is determined to track down Kane and end him.
Tempest is a young vampire living in a small village. She and the rest of the townsfolk – both vampire and human – live in peace following the changes brought about by the new king, but that peace is ripped out from underneath them upon the arrival of a group declaring themselves as working for the ‘real’ queen and intent on restoring vampire rights and destroying all who stand in their way.
Desperate, Tempest heads into the mountains to search for help and that’s where she meets William. Upon learning that one of the men terrorising her town is the same man he is searching for, William agrees to help Tempest so that he can finally get the revenge he is seeking.
But as they make their way together, and trapped in a blizzard, things begin to change for William and Tempest as they find themselves falling for each other. What starts as an attraction soon becomes something so much more, and William find himself torn between his personal mission and his growing feelings, while Tempest battles to hold back her feelings for a man she knows is going to end up breaking her heart.
This is a gorgeous love story that is natural and real, and I loved seeing William finally meet the one for him. Tempest is brave and bold, with an irresistible innocence, and she’s a wonderful match for the strong and capable man with a huge heart. I loved seeing them together and was cheering for them as their relationship progressed.
But the danger they are facing is so much worse than either of them initially realised, and with the newfound peace in the country under threat, they need to figure out who is behind it all and get the information back to Braith and Aria. They are in for not only a battle for their lives, but for the future of the world they are trying to create, while at the same time coming to terms with their deepening connection, which is all kinds of gorgeous!
It’s a wonderfully exciting story with characters that you cannot help but love, action, adventure, and a fantastic romance. It’s a great addition to this series that I love so much, and a wonderful lead in to the next and final book.
2nd time rereading this series and I just love the whole outline and development of the story. Reading the prequel book before book 6, just sets up so much back story. I wish this was part of her adult book line, as the romance scenes are more mild. However, it way makes up for that with the action scenes and overall story build up. This is probably one of my favorite overall series/stories. Braith and Aria are still my favorite and I wish they had bigger parts in this one, but William is pretty solid also and goes through a lot of adjustments in this book.
William is a hollow shell of the man he once was. His light has been snuffed out and he feels nothing more than a burning need to seek vengeance against Kane, the vampire who killed him.
During the 6 months since he was killed, William has begun adapting to his new abilities as a vampire, learning to once again use a bow and arrow without snapping a string or breaking a bow, dealing with how enhanced his senses have become and drinking blood. But he feels as though the walls are closing in on him and he is restless to start his journey believing that only Kane's death will ease his anger.
Tempest is a shy young woman, she is currently watching over the children in the orphanage that she grew up in while Laverne, the woman who runs the home is away visiting family. When her usually quiet and peaceful town is over run with hundreds of vampires and horrible things happening to it's residents, she knows she has no choice but to leave and find help.
When William finds Tempest in the middle of a snow storm he feels a connection to her and after he hears her story about what is happening in her town, he decides that he needs to scout out the situation. But that is going to have to wait because the storm has gotten worse and he and Tempest have no choice but to wait out the storm together.
After a week together in a cave Tempest and William find they have feelings for each other, but when the storm clears and they leave the cave will William be able to set aside his need for vengeance for Tempest or will his rage tear them apart?
I have always loved William! I have been waiting for this story for over 2 years and I worried about the story being less than what I had built it up to be in my head. What I found was a love story that far exceeded anything I could have ever conceived! William and Tempest ebb and flow and I could feel the bond between them growing with each word that I read. Erica did a spectacular job with William's story! It was everything I wanted and so much more!
This story has also set us up for what looks to be a stunning revelation and an epic battle and I can't wait to find out happens next!
Years after reading my first Erica Stevens book, I’m still just as mesmerized each time she releases a new book or series. Reading about the characters in the Captured series always feel like returning to old friends.
William’s transition from human to vampire was neither ideal or something he truly wanted, but he was dying and knew there was no other way to get his revenge on Kane. He’s not the easy going guy he once was, and he’s distanced himself from those he loves the most. His singular focus is finding Kane--and vengeance.
Tempest’s life is simple, but she’s content. The children in the orphanage need her, and she’s able to give them the love and security she didn’t have when she grew up in the orphanage. But that peaceful life is shattered when white-cloaked Warriors show up along with a woman who claims to be the rightful queen of the vampires. People disappear, some are killed for their lack of support, and the future is turning bleaker by the moment. Tempest is one of the only people who can possibly sneak out of the town and into the mountains to find help.
Thrust together in terrible circumstances, Tempest and William have to come together in order to not only save the orphans, but to find enough information to take back to Braith and Aria. The hard won time of peace is balanced on a precipice.
Erica once again had me both longing and dreading to turn the pages! I was dying to know what happened from one chapter to the next, but I knew the climax was going to be intense--and I wasn’t disappointed. The emotions were intense, and the tension was palpable. The stage is set for the next, and last, book in the Captive series, and I can’t wait to find out where Erica takes us in Unbound!
This is the #6 book in the captive Series and centers on William and Tempest. William is Aria's twin brother who was killed by Kane but brought back from death by Aria as a vampire in order to save him. William: William has one goal and that's vengeance, he wants to destroy Kane for what he did to his life that changed him forever. He is angry and wants his revenge. Tempest: Tempest lost her parents, or rather was given up to the orphanage to raise her as a baby in the small remote town away from harm.... or so she thought until Kane and his army (so to speak) came in and took over.
This book was amazing, it sucked me in from word go and didn't let up. I loved that William saved Tempest from what would have probably been starvation when she set out to find help to rescue her small town from being taken over. Tempest had a hard time trusting William at first but was surprised during a conversation when he revealed that "You are not expendable to me". There were parts of this book that also made me laugh when William was revealing parts of himself and his family to Tempest.... " By the time this man was done with his revelations her jaw was going to be dislocated". Thank you for another amazing read Erica. I truly love this series and would highly recommend it to anyone who has not read it!!. <3 <3

Vengeance is excellent as all books in this series have been so far. William and Tempest are interesting characters and the situations that they face show the strength and determination they have to do what must be done. William is searching for the man that ended his life as he knew it. He has one thing on his mind, vengeance, when he stumbles across Tempest as she attempts to find help for her village overrun with a new, incidious threat to the peace established by Braith and Aria. While they shelter away during a blizzard, Tempest and William develop a friendship that grows to something more. They must come to terms with what is truly important and the path they wish to take once they leave their shelter. The threat to them and the kingdom is great, but their bond may be their greatest weapon.
I enjoyed the character development in this book and the introduction of the new threat to peace. Times ahead will be exciting and intense certainly. Revisiting old characters and continuing to weave together previous works in the series make this one of my favorites. If I had one critique, it would be the lack of a reintroduction to the other people in the story. It can be hard to remember after months away from the series, who is who and how they fit into the overarching story and relate to one another.
I definitely look forward to the opportunity to continue to read about these characters and their world.
I was given this Arc by the author in exchange for my honest opinion.
William is angry as he should be. His human life was ended abruptly and he is on a search for the person who did this so that he can make him pay. Through his travels he stumbles upon Tempest and she needs his help big time. Can William set aside his anger to not only help her.
As soon as I found out that Erica Stevens was writing a book for William I jumped for joy. He is one of my favorites and I knew that Erica would make his book just as good as the others.
This book was awesome! William was in a bad place. He became one of the things he hated most and has to adjust to his new cravings and bloodlust. William leaves the safe haven of his family to search for Kane and he find out some new information that will change the lives of everyone he loves.
Tempest homeland is being invaded by an unknown group and she is in search assistance. She meets William and is immediately taken by him as he is her. I loved the way Erica dealt with their budding romance. There was an innocence to Tempest that was able to calm the beast that William became.
The action in this story was great. So many things happened that I can't say without spoiling this. What I will tell you is that this is a must read!
Oh my gosh I can breath. They both made it through the mountains alive. I held my breath through the last part of William and Tempest journey. Know I remember why I loved the Captive Series so much.
Arie's, the queens twin brother wants Vengeance. William life was taken by Kane a vampire. He just can't adjust to his new life as a vampire. Despite his mortality, he finds his life cold and empty. He hates more than anything being a vampire. All he can think about is Kane, the man that took his life. Arie did the only thing she could as a vampire and his twin turned him into a vampire to save his life. He wants revenge and will do anything to get it that include leaving his family and friends to find Kane. That's where his journey begins. Finding Tempest, a nearly frozen vampire in the blizzard. She left her town to find help because of a take over by hostile vampires. Kane is amount the vampires that are taking over her town. Their journey begins and it's amazing. The ending left me feeling ill. I'm hoping that the fears of the queen Arie is ill-founded. I love Braith and Arie love for each other. I hope the next book is about them...
Just amazing! I felt like I was right in the pages the whole time, it played out like a movie. William was so detached at the beginning not able to feel joy for his friends because his mind was solely set on revenge against Kane. During his search for Kane he runs across and vacant town where secrets lay beneath. A blizzard hits and he is forced to take cover, soon he stumbles across a vampire named Tempest that changes his life forever. Tempest, a vampire raised in an orphanage in a small town surrounded by mountains soon finds it over run with vampires who are there take it over. After fleeing her town in search for help she is found by William. Together they try to get to the bottom of what is happening and soon find they have a bond that cannot be broken. This book was so good I didn't want to put it down! Who is this so called queen?! And are they up against another war? I can't wait until the next book comes out Erica your books amaze me!
This is the story of William, Aria’s twin brother. We met him in previous books in the Captive Series, but never really got to know him very well. William was killed by a vampire during the war between vampires and humans. Aria brought him back to life….as a vampire! Now he lives out his days plotting his revenge against Kane, the vampire who killed him. He is full of hate and only has one thing on his mind, revenge! One thing that is until he meets Tempest. Tempest is from a small town, one that was taken over by vampires. She is running in search of help. Will she find help in the form of William, a vampire, the same creature that destroyed her town? And can William out aside his mission of revenge to help Tempest? Soon William and Tempest will have to face their feelings for each other and work together to help save their future.
I loved this book, what a great series. The ending left me wanting more….right now…LOL
Vengeance is Book Six of the series. This story is based on William’s struggle to adjust to his new life as a vampire and his need to end Kane’s life. In chasing Kane, he meets Tempest who tells him of a new army that is being created by an imposter queen and the deaths of those that refuse to join. Hearing of what had happened to a town not far away, Tempest asks William to help her retrieve the children she had to leave behind. He agrees, and this is where the suspenseful story begins. Ms. Stevens has a way of giving new life to old characters. You are taken deeper into Williams thoughts through his own discoveries of himself, and are treated to doubt, fear, passion, anger, sacrifice, and love. After reading the last word, I was already wondering where Ms. Stevens would decide to take us next. I might have picked up a hint or two, and I can’t wait.
PURE GENIUS. Wow. I loved it. William is struggling to adjust to his new Vampire self. Hell bent on revenge against Kane, he goes off alone in search for his Vengeance. Tempest is on a mission to find help from the royal family for her village. William stumbles upon Tempest during a blizzard. Erica Stevens has produced an EPIC read again. I loved the growing romance between William and Tempest. This book has it all. I recommend this to everyone. BRILLIANT. SO EXCITED FOR THE NEXT INSTALMENT.
I was privileged enough to read this book already and it is a fabulous addition to the Captive Series by Erica Stevens. Honestly, I had no idea that William was this hot. And by that, I mean that he was pretty cool before he turned all vampy, but afterwards he turned into an angry but major hot man! And I love his relationship with Tempest. Her name is really cool and although there is some sadness behind why she was named that, it fits her. The ending is left pretty open for what sounds like an epic upcoming battle and I cannot wait!
This is William's story. He is seeking vengeance from the vampire that killed him. On his quest he meets Tempest. She's trying to save her town. They have to work together to meet their goals. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It has all the points I look for in a great book. Lots of action and adventure. Romance and some steamy love scenes. There is a mystery to solve also about the Queen. If you are a Paranormal Romance fan, you will love this book. Get your copy today. From a Fan... Pam James.
Wow, I cannot believe this is book 6 already. With each book you are drawn in more and more. This book is the story of William (Aria's twin brother). William sets out to find Kane, the vampire who killed him. Along the way he stumbles upon Tempest. Somehow his anger seems to lessen when he is around her. He finds that his need for vengeance takes a back seat to his need to protect Tempest. Buckle up and start down the path of events with William and Tempest. I highly recommend Erica's books. Each one is a journey!
Erica is an amazing writer. I have loved this series since captive and will follow it to its end. I am fascinated on how well she continues to bring to life the characters I have fallen in love with as well as how she is able to still keep the people I can't live without integrated into the stories. All of these characters are one big happy family and I have come to love them all. I can't wait for the next book to make sure everyone makes it out alive.
This book is number 6 in the Captive series. I first off have to say I LOVE it!! Suspense, drama, romance and vampires. What is there not to love? We get to see old friends from the series as well getting to know new friends. No spoilers from me. I will say, GRAB this now!! Spend New Year's with William, Tempest, Aria, Braithwaite and the gang. It will be the best New Year's Eve.
