John Ostrander is an American writer of comic books. He is best known for his work on Suicide Squad, Grimjack and Star Wars: Legacy, series he helped create.

Originally an actor in a Chicago theatre company, Ostrander moved into writing comics in 1983. His first published works were stories about the character "Sargon, Mistress of War", who appeared the First Comics series Warp!, based on a series of plays by that same Chicago theatre company. He is co-creator of the character Grimjack with Timothy Truman, who originally appeared in a back up story in the First Comics title, Starslayer, before going on to appear in his own book, again published by First Comics in the mid 1980s. First Comics ceased publication in 1991, by which time Ostrander was already doing work for other comics companies (his first scripts for DC Comics were published in 1986).

Prior to his career in comic books, Ostrander studied theology with the intent of becoming a Catholic priest, but now describes himself as an agnostic. His in-depth explorations of morality were later used in his work writing The Spectre, a DC Comics series about the manifestation of the wrath of God. His focus on the character's human aspect, a dead police detective from the 1930s named Jim Corrigan, and his exploration of moral and theological themes brought new life to a character often thought of as impossible to write. He has also worked on Firestorm, Justice League, Martian Manhunter, Manhunter, Suicide Squad, and Wasteland for DC.

We finally get Shae and Xesh. Everything we learn about Xesh just makes me love his character more. He deserves so much better than the life he has been given. I will say, I feel as if everyone just forgave Lok really easily. He seemed really unhinged in Prisoner of Bogan but in this one everyone is just letting him lead. Anyway, the war is really awesome and this is a really bad review but I need to read more after that cliffhanger ending.

I didn’t like this volume as much, too many stupid mistakes by the characters and the storyline almost seems rushed compared to previous volumes. There are also too many characters to care about them all, I find that I really only like maybe three of the 6 or 7 characters so far.

"It was amazing." - 5 out of 5 star rating.

Absolutely loving this Rakatan Infinite Empire comic book series and their Force Hounds, invasions, Flesh Raiders... there is just so much to enjoy here.

The story, characters, artwork, action, dialog... this is hitting all the marks. I honestly cannot think of a single area of improvement or critique for this comic. Therefore, I cannot justify rating this anything other than 5-stars.

Super excited to see what will happen next.

These are amazing Star Wars comics that venture outwards from the Clone Wars and the classic Sith vs Jedi, Empire vs Rebel type material. Absolutely love it and for a comic book - so engaging, so content rich, and really if these are getting 5's the bar/expectations are too high. John Ostrander - per usual, amazing work!

Old Friends... Old Enemies!

As I suspected there is a blooming relationship between Xesh and Shae Koda. After a bad dream, she comes to him and expresses her love. He tells her his real name.

Seer Tasha has a dark vision of a strong fortress, impenetrable on a stone cliff with waves of blood washing upon the rocks. After this, Xesh goes into the dark to locate the fortress of Predor Skal'Nas.

Trill, who has been Seknor's girl exposes her true loyalty and the Jedaii run into an ambush. In the end, Xesh's nightmare might just have been a vision.

I didn't expect the ending, but I enjoyed it. The story is progressing in a way that the Infinite Empire's sundering of Tython, -causing the light and dark within the planet to quarrel with each other forever- will force the Jedaii to seek a new home soon.

[Re-read December 23, 2021]

[Original review January 8, 2017]

Dawn of the Jedi: Force War issue #2 was much better than the first in this series. Here the Je'daii plan to hit the Rakatan Infinite Empire right at the heart, by attacking Predor Skal'Nas at his secret base. However, Trill is working as a double agent and lets her Rakatan masters know of the Je'daii's plan to attack. . I thought this issue was much better than the first. The story was much more intriguing and did more for the overall story arc than the first issue did.
