Bottom of the Ninth was a sweet and heartfelt read.
The storyline kept me turning the pages, the characters Zeke and Paisley were passionate, likable and watching them fall in love warmed my heart.
Zeke and Paisley were able to slowly put pasts hurts behind them and find love and comfort in each other's arms.
Another plus for me was watching Zeke connect with Paisley's nieces and nephew, he was able to make them feel safe, loved and provide a place they could call home. He truly had a beautiful heart.
Overall, Bottom of the Ninth was a well written and entertaining read that will keep you turning pages and leave you with a smile on your face.
Bottom of the Ninth is the 6th book in the Game On in Seattle series, each book can be read as a standalone and I highly recommend it.

Wow, so Bottom of the Ninth was way more than I expected; emotional, heart-warming, and sexy this story hit so many of my contemporary romance buttons. An emotionally unavailable man, a woman down on her luck, and three young children who have been through hell and back all made this book one spectacular story.
Traded to the bottom of the cellar Seattle Skookums, Zeke Wolfe is not happy to be back in Seattle where he'll be in close proximity to the family he'd rather forget. Nor is he happy when he accidentally sprays a woman and three small children when he hits a pothole in the middle of the road; he can't not stop when he realizes she's obviously stranded, but what he doesn't expect is to feel an attraction to the bedraggled woman or see so much of himself in the eyes of the three children in her care.
Paisley Madison is about at the end of her rope when her day goes from bad to worse, thankfully the man who sprayed her and her nieces and nephew stops to help and despite her reservations Paisley has no choice but to accept his help. She finds him intriguing and realizes that with his job as a MLB player he needs help organizing his life and his new home and she needs a job; a match made in heaven or a recipe for disaster?
There was so much going on in this story and the relationship could have been lost; but the bond between Zeke and Paisley was key to everything else going on. I loved watching Paisley and the kids worm their way into Zeke's heart and while Paisley fully admits that she falls too fast and often for the wrong men, she sees something different in Zeke. Zeke fought his attraction to Paisley and he most certainly fought his feelings which made for some interesting internal struggles. The three precious children added a whole other dimension to not only their relationship, but with Zeke dealing with his family and his demons. While I love that the kids broke through his outer shell, I hated the reason they did so.
Every piece and part of this book was special and I found it difficult to put it down for anything. Bottom of the Ninth is absolutely one of my favorite books by author Jami Davenport.

Finally Zeke’s story!! From the time the Wolfe brothers were introduced I have been dying for his story and I can’t say this came at a better time and it was worth the wait. Davenport as always writes a stellar read that had me laughing one moment and in tears the next. I couldn’t get enough of Zeke, Paisley and her nieces and nephew.
While the trope has been done before a few times I really liked how well this story played out. Once I started reading I couldn’t put it down that’s just how much I enjoyed it. I loved that Zeke wasn’t a player and didn’t pretend to be one. He has a dark past but with Paisley he sees the light. Of course the issue with his brothers is brought up and I can say I always dying to know why this family was like that.
The story was well written and since I am a big baseball fan I loved coming back to Americas past time not that I don’t enjoy other sports but wow I loved this one. The characters stood out and of course the way Davenport touches on domestic violence was well handled. One thing that I really love about her books is that she always picks a real topic to add to her story which always makes her characters seem real and the stories believable. Already I am hooked on her writing and I am looking forward to what will come in future books.
Since I haven’t read this series before I am looking forward to starting at the beginning. If you’re looking for a cute romance that has wonderfully written characters and a HEA that will having you smiling from ear to ear you won’t want to miss Bottom of the ninth.

Enjoyed the book immensely. Reading this book brought all kinds of emotions out in me. I cried, laughed and got angry at situations during this read. This can be a stand alone but having read the other books in the series I understood who some of the other characters were. Zeke is a dark individual dealing with issues many issues our children of today have to deal with. His goes a bit more severe. Having to live a lie for the public and maintain his sanity and play Americas Favorite past time sport can take a toll on ones mentality. Then he meets Paisley on a dark rainy night with her three nieces and nephews. Paisley is the ray of sunshine he isn't sure he wants to let into his life but his public image needs her. Can she bring his spirit back to him and help him heal from his troubled past? The children he doesn't want to love. Sadie is him but younger when her tragedies started. The girl breaks my heart. I cried a few times when she and Zeke connected. How can a 5 yr old break your heart just by smiling? Brayden, the reminder of what Issac truly was to his family. Sophie this ball of energy that you can't help but love because she won't allow you to not love her. After finishing the book I wanted to re read it. Jami Davenport is an amazing author. Her writings will made you envision what you read as you read it. I gave this book 5 stars but truly it deserved more. After reading this book if he haven't read any of her others you will definitely want to!

Pais and Zeke run the bases at the Bottom of the Ninth.
Paisley gets temporary custody of her sisters kids who have been traumatized by domestic abuse from a young age. Zeke was also traumatized so he has lots in common with these kids as he grows to love them. He has a deep seated fear that he will hurt Pais like his father always said he would. I absolutely love this romance. My emotions were all over the place as I devoured it. Jami writes the best sports romances! I received a gifted copy. I am voluntarily leaving an honest review. I honestly love this story, this series, and this author!

It was so nice to finally get Zeke's story! I've been waiting for the youngest Wolfe brother's story for quite some time! I have to say it was so worth the wait! Zeke Wolfe & Paisley Madison and her three adorable charges will just tug at your heartstrings. They certainly yanked on mine like crazy. Zeke’s past appears to have damaged him beyond repair but meeting Paisley, who insinuates herself into his life after a chance side of the road meeting in a rainstorm, turns out to be just the medicine he needs.
Zeke plays first base for the Seattle Skookums and is known as the nice guy of the team meaning he is not a “player”. In fact some people actually think he is gay.
Paisley is trying to start a new life in a new place as guardian to her 2 nieces and nephew after her sister is murdered and her sister’s husband is currently in jail. The teams PR people and Zeke's agent come up with a plan they think will be really good for Zeke's reputation and that is for Zeke and Paisley to pretend to be a couple. Will pretend become real? Paisley sure wants it to, but does Zeke? Can he handle it?
Zeke and one of the 5-year-old twins, Sadie, have a bit more tragedy in common than either of them realizes. Together this whole family will heal and find love. It’s a beautifully written story with great character development of both our main characters and supporting characters and as always is not just a perfect fluffy love story. There are some definite growing pains here for Zeke with Paisley, the kids and his own brothers and that makes it all the more wonderful when they make it through to the other side. Awesome read from Jami Davenport!

I have been waiting for Zeke's story and I wasn't disappointed. Reading this book was like visiting family in Seattle. Zeke is such a good man he just doesn't see it, he can't care for anyone or believe anyone can care for him because of the mental and physical abuse from his father. He believes he is his father's son and will hurt anyone close. Paisley is in survival mode needing to put a roof over her dead sister's kids heads. The love story between Zeke and Paisley (and the kids) is rocky, just as rocky as Zeke's troubled relationship with his brothers. I enjoyed this being a baseball book with lots of baseball in it. This book is well written (as all of Jami's books are) and the characters so well developed, I feel like they are part of my family. Easy to recommend this book and can't wait for the next one.

Really well written story and character development between the hero and heroine, fell in love with the kids in page 1 and the author did a great job as the story progressed! I can't wait to see whats' next!

Zeke brings new meaning to the term lone Wolfe. As the youngest Wolfe brother he is the one that others talk about but no one is able to talk to because he has shut his brothers out completely after they left him alone with their psycho father. Zeke had been successful so far living far enough away playing baseball and they are doing their own things in Seattle, so he is not amused at all when he is traded to the Seattle Skookums who are at the bottom of the league. The first night there he ran into another problem, well he ran into a large puddle that soaked a woman and 3 kids standing on the side of the road as their car had died. Being a true man he took them in for just ONE night but then the next day his agent decided to turn it into something longer when he was presented with a plan by Paisley.
Paisley Madison has her own issues to deal with, she is struggling with temporary custody of her nephew and 2 nieces and is making sure they are kept far, far away from their dad/her brother in law who just may have been the reason that their mother died. When she met Zeke on that dark and stormy night and then saw the old house that he had purchased she realized that he could be her ticket. Now she just had to work on showing him that not only could she do the job but they could also be exactly what he needed in his life.
While there was an instant attraction between the two of the them, Zeke denied it completely because he was worried about being exactly like his father. What he was least expecting was after being given an ultimatum by the new owner of the team to help improve their image, he realized that maybe that longer need to turn into something permanent because he actually did need to let his past go and have a family in his life. Not just this instant family but also his brothers as truly did need to be all together.
Jami has hit a home run with this book. All too often we get this story of perfect people being with each other when in true life it is nothing like that. Dealing with violence and abuse is something that we want to deny happens in our hearts but we know in our heads it does. Being able to put this story in a way that was so realistic and comforting was exactly what I expect from this author. So when you read this book, make sure you have a few tissues close by just in case because you might need them as this will hit you hard.

Bottom of the Ninth: Seattle Skookums Baseball (Game On in Seattle) by Jami Davenport I was anxiously awaiting reading BOTTOM OF THE NINTH about Zeke, the third Wolfe brother. I was not disappointed. I loved this book. Jami Davenport continues to do a fabulous job with both her character and plot development. This contemporary sports romance takes place in Seattle. It is suitable for adult audiences.
My heart went out to Zeke. He is the youngest of the Wolfe brothers. He was left to fend for himself with his father after the brothers moved out of the house to pursue their sports. I couldn’t believe the secrets he suppressed. It is understandable why he did not want anything to do with his brothers, but I was glad fate intervened, and they were thrown together.
Paisley Madison is an admirable heroine. I love that she took care of her late sister’s kids: Brayden, Sophie, and Sadie. She has a good heart. I love how Paisley and her charges came into Zeke’s life. She is determined and strong willed. Zeke and Paisley are perfect for each other. Zeke, Paisley, and the kids all needing each other to heal.
I thought the old house aspect of the story was clever. I like Zeke’s agent, Al Greenburg, and was glad he hired Paisley. I also, appreciated that he picked up Zeke’s brothers as clients. One Big Seattle Family was brilliant.
I enjoyed the plot and like how it tied in with Isaac Wolfe’s story MELTING ICE and Tanner Wolfe’s story BLINDSIDED. All three of the brothers of the brothers had a horrible childhood; turning against each other. I love that they were given an opportunity to talk things out and reconcile. I also, appreciated Paisley’s story and the similarities that the characters experienced, especially Zeke and Sadie.
BOTTOM OF THE NINTH by Jami Davenport was a heartwarming and exciting read. The story is well-written and has a great flow. This novel had me experiencing just about every emotion. I loved the characters and the plot. I highly recommend this read to anyone that enjoys sports romances. To fully appreciate this story; I suggest reading the books in order, or at least reading MELTING ICE and BLINDSIDED first.

Zeke Wolfe has written his entire family off, and while his image looks great in public, at home, he doesn't have a lot of patience for drama. The night he moves to Seattle, to play for the Skookums baseball team, he drenches a young woman with three children. He tries to keep going, but something in him, makes him go back to apologize. Next thing he knows, they are staying with him, and she's his new assistant/housekeeper, but that isn't the biggest problem, he can't seem to stay away from her. Next thing he knows, he has a fake family, and finance, that he doesn't believes he wants. Paisely Madison has gotten guardianship of her dead sister's kids, and she dreams of having a real home for them. When the cranky, but hot ball player falls into her life, she decides to take that horrible night and make something awesome out of it. She hires herself as his live in assistant, but their business arrangement quickly turns into something more. However, both Zeke and Paisley's pasts are coming up fast to threaten their future. So will they conquer their pasts once and for all, or will fear take out their future together?!
WOW! I LOVED this story, and it seems so fitting that I read it after the Cubs broke their curse, and won the World Series. Anyway, I digress, so let me get on with it. The character development is awesome, with an entertaining cast of secondaries. I stayed irritated with Zeke quite a bit, and I LOVED LOVED LOVED Paisely, but no matter what, they were realistic characters that I had strong feelings for. Not to mention their simmering chemistry had me breaking a sweat, and finally boiled over into SMOKIN' HOT sexy scene goodness. And no matter how much their perspective pasts were painful, and trust me, I physically felt their pain, those adorable kids made for some well placed humor that had me laughing hard. Jami Davenport's talented writing style had me transported into her story, and she really meshed baseball with romance perfectly. Her twists and turns swirled all around, which kept me on my toes cover to cover, with f-bombs raining down. I CANNOT WAIT for more of her fantastic sports romance, so I'm HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMENDING TO ALL!

This is the next installment in Jami Davenport's Game On In Seattle series and it was one I had been waiting on!
We have gotten to know the Wolfe brothers in previous books in this series, but Zeke was the brother we knew the least about, however we knew that the last thing he wanted was anything to do with his brothers. When Zeke is traded to Seattle's bottom feeder professional baseball team, he's less than thrilled because he wants to be on a winning team, but he also hates the fact he's going to be in the same city with the brothers he's trying so desperately to avoid. On his first night in town, he comes upon a woman and children that are on the side of the road due to a broken down car. Against everything he thinks he believes, he takes them back to his home since they have no where to go. Will picking up these strangers change everything about his life?
Paisley Madison has had a tough several months. Her sister died and in order to keep her nieces and nephew out of the system, she has temporary custody of them. As a young woman herself, the last thing she expected was to be a mother to three vulnerable kids or to be homeless and basically penniless too. When Zeke takes pity on them and takes them back to his house, a light at the end of the tunnel begins to glimmer when Paisley realizes that she might be able to "create" a job for herself as Zeke needs a personal assistant in the worst way.
As Paisley and the kids begin to settle in to Zeke's new house, they also begin to worm their way into his head and his heart. Will this stubborn man who does not think he's worthy of loving, or of being loved, be swayed by this pseudo family that is being created?
There is so much emotion, love and heartache in this book. I laughed, I cried and I empathized with what the characters were going through. Jami Davenport created a story that was not only engaging, but also believable. It was one that when I started reading, I didn't want to stop! I'm looking forward to the next book in this series!

4.5* hot and steamy sporting stars
This is the sixth in the series - and I would absolutely recommend that you read them all and in order ... however, this could be read as a standalone, but you would miss some of the ongoing plot-lines and relationships. What I found to be really special, and requires a talented author to achieve, is that although I did not have time to reread the previous books, there were strong reminders of previous events that just prompted me enough, without repeating everything. It was really fascinating to see another side of the Wolfe brothers' story.
Zeke and Paisley (along with Sophie, Sadie and Brandon) are the stars of this story. Their unexpected meeting and subsequent employer/employee relationship show us that Zeke's claims about being heartless are somewhat overstated, and that Paisley is all about getting the best for her charges, and will not let this opportunity pass. Her behaviour could grate on the reader, but actually she is a good person and selflessness is the ethos by which she lives, so it is easy to forgive her. Watching the children unfreeze is very precious, yet not overdone. All in all I just enjoyed every page. There were some really moving moments, some dramatic ones and some very hot and steamy ones. There was plenty of sport time, plenty of development for other team members, and we got to see the Maxwell sisters and their men too.
Highly recommended - a really good addition to the series. Looking forward to what happens next!

Wounded. Hurt. Cheated. Lost. Confused. Zeke and Paisley may not have lived a similar life but life has a way of putting some tuff obstacles in the way. There are some things that leave scars. Some leave deep down to the soul gouges. Sometimes you must allow for something good to come in and make that change that is needed to make you a better you. This lesson was hard fought and conquered by both Zeke and Paisley in different ways.
Left by his brother to endure something no child should ever have to go through. Zeke wanted nothing to do with his brothers. To be honest he really didn’t want anything to do with people outside of the necessities. Even after he runs into one woman and three children.
Paisley had her priorities in place and the fact that her nieces and nephew were the top priority made her do things she would not normally do. Deciding to take advantage of the fact that she had a run in with Zeke. She turns things around in her life and that of Zeke and her family.
I could feel Zeke’s pain and Paisley’s fear for her family. I enjoyed the coming to Jesus that the Wolfe family needed to have and how the connections were there regardless of pain. Things were just engrossing and consuming. I found so much her that made me fall in love with the growth between Zeke and Paisley. I very much enjoyed looking back and making connections to previous books.
Davenport put it all out there and made connections, statements, and understanding go a long way. The roundabout way that she brought the brother’s and their families together was hearwarming. I think that Al was a lot smarter than specific credit has been given him. He makes agents look like do-gooders not overbearing leeches. Jami Davenport hit it out of the ballpark again!!!
Zeke Wolfe thinks it is the end of the world when he gets traded to the Seattle Skookums baseball team. He has not been playing very well and now he now lives in the same city as his two brothers that he does not get along with. As soon as he gets into town he is on his way to the house he bought unseen when he accidentally splashes a women standing on the side of the road beside her broken down car.
Paisley just got into town with her nieces and nephew that she just got temporary custody of when her car breaks down. She is standing on the side of the road with the three children when Zeke comes driving by and splashes them all. He pulls over to check on them when he finds out they have no where to go and no money. He takes them home with him to get the all cleaned up.
Paisley convinces Zeke to hire her as his personal assistant to help him fix up the house while he works on saving his baseball career. During this time Zeke's two brothers also want to reconnect with him after a very traumatizing childhood. Paisley is also trying to help the children that come from a very abusive home life.
This is probably my favorite book by Jami Davenport. It will have you on an emotional roller coaster laughing and crying and every emotion in between. I would definitely recommend this book along with the others in the series.

"Bottom of the Ninth" by Jami Davenport. This is Zeke and Paisley's story and a heartwarming tale it is. I adored Paisley. Despite having some hardships in life, her outlook is bright and she is a smart and strong woman that is filled with love and laughter. Zeke, despite being known as "Mr. Clean", comes across a bit harsh but, as we learn his history, it comes to life his hard learned lessons and is understandable. The two together were exactly what the doctor ordered! The sparks fly, yes, but it's the emotional connection that got me and wouldn't let go. The storyline is one of anguish and hurt and some really deep pain yet it also shines with hope and love too. There is more than just the sports theme too, I enjoyed the old house makeover as well as the inclusion of the kids too. Children in a story always make my heart sing, especially as they melt the heart of one of the characters as these three do. Ms. Davenport has written this tale that is emotionally gripping yet had me smiling and chuckling at times too. I couldn't put it down. Having read the previous books, it was a joy to reconnect with those characters as well and Ms. Davenport did a wonderful job of bringing it all together. I believe this is my favorite in the series, although the previous stories also grabbed hold of my heart too. (received copy for honest review)

This was a very anticipated book for me and Jami Davenport didn't disappoint.
Zeke is the youngest of the three Wolfe brothers. Raised in an abusive home, he is emotionally unavailable and unhappy with his recent trade to the last chance Seattle Skookums pro baseball team. He is also unhappy to be playing in the same city with his two pro athlete brothers whom he has avoided for many years.
On his first night as a resident of rainy Seattle he cuts a corner hitting a deep puddle splashing water everywhere, including a now bedraggled woman and three small kids. Although tempted to keep going, he backs up to check on them.
Paisley has custody of her sister's three kids. With a broken auto, cold, wet, hungry kids and five dollars to her name, she is out of options and has no where to go. Zeke is a loner and doesn't get involved. Against his better judgement he offers food and his home for the night, after all, they will be gone in the morning.
Bottom of the Ninth was a well told story with no 'hangers'. It can be a stand alone book but the Wolfe brothers relationship is developed in earlier books. Enjoy!

Paisley is strong, resourceful and raising her sister's 3 kids. It was easy to love Paisley and her optimistic outlook on life and she is just what Zeke needs in his life.
Zeke's unhappy childhood means he doesn't get close to anyone. From the outside he appears to have it all. Great career, money, good looks and as far as the world knows, two brothers he loves. But Zeke is not close with his brothers, or many people at all. It is all for show. Zeke is lonely but too afraid to let anyone close.
Zeke stole my heart. He makes me sad and I desperately wanted him to be happy and I think that made the ending of this story that much sweeter. Great story.

Fitting end to the "Wolf Pack" Trilogy in the Game on Series. Really a well written story given to Zeke to tell his side of the family story of the Wolf Brothers. Paisley is just trying to do the best she can for her Nieces and Nephew when Zeke drives into their life. Nice play between Zeke and the kids in the story as well as with the other Ballplayers on the Sookums team. Great story as a stand alone, but highly encourage people to read the entire series as its really nice to see characters from other stories and where they are down the road. Looking forward to peaks into Zeke and Paisley's life in the next few books!

This series of books are super amazing and I can't get enough!!

Paisley is having a ton of bad luck and it starts with having no where to stay. After her car breaks down in the rain some smart ass splashes her and her nieces and nephew. Luck starts happening when the smart ass stops to help and he turns out to be Zeke Wolfe the new first baseman for the Skookums.
Zeke and Paisley both have a troubled past but can they get over it for the sake of their relationship and the kids??

Jami Davenport has done a wonderful job of building the story lines in all of her books. All of the Wolfe brothers have intrigued me. I have to say that Zeke had become my favorite.
This book did a wonderful job of allowing he characters to grow and heal. The bond that grows between Zeke, Paisley, and the kids is amazing.

This is the story of the third Wolfe brother to come to Seattle, this time as a traded baseball player who needs to find his stride again. He didn't want to be there. His brothers abandoned him after his sister's death. They weren't there so he doesn't want to be be here. Paisley always looks for the rainbow, and when she breaks down in the pouring rain with her 3 charges, not even the dousing from Zeke's tires can dampen her spirit. She's quick on her feet. Circumstances find Paisley and her sister's children living in Zeke's house while Zeke attempts to maintain his image and avoid his family. I love the tension between the two characters, and the many issues that Jami addresses. So much is going on in the book- with Paisley, Zeke, the twins, his brothers, his best friend; but it works. It flows and there is no stuttering. The heat between Zeke and Paisley is combustable. It was great to see so many of the characters from the other Seattle books in this one. Other fabulous story!

Hearts will be repaired and a love you thought you didn’t want will healed. When Zeke meets Paisley and her kids it wasn’t what you’d call a happy meeting. Paisley stranded on the side of the road, broken down car, three small kids she’s scared and all alone. Hoping to start new away from the demons she left behind. Getting soaked by a passing car is just one more thing she didn’t need.
Zeke nearly keeps going but something makes him stop. Seeing this wet scared family staring at him, opens something up inside of him he thought was long dead.
He’ll try to resist them, the kids and Paisleys beautiful heart but it’s going to be futile. They e claimed him now he just needs to be the man they need him to be.

Bottom of the Ninth is another fabulous addition to Jami Davenport's Game On in Seattle series. This time delivering the story of Zeke Wolfe.
Zeke tries to keep his life out of the media. He's known for his quiet down low lifestyle and for who his brothers are. Only the media doesn' t know that he has nor wants a relationship with them. So like everything else, he plays it off with the media, pretending things are just fine, while internally fervently denying it. He's upset about his trade to Seattle, because he doesn't like the team but also becasue it pulls him right into his brother's line of sight again.
Paisley is struggling, taking on her sister's kids and trying to protect them from their father and their traumatic past, she's come to Seattle prepared to help heal them and move on. But nothing goes according to plan, her living situation gets unsettled before she even really hit town and then her vehicle dies, leaving her and the kids stranded in the rain. To make matters worse, a speeding car just splashed them all to soaking. But the drive backs up and steps out and nothing is the same after.
Zeke doesn't like kids, he doesn't want a girlfriend and he certainly doesn't want to have a woman and kids prowling around his new home, so why did he just agree to take Paisley and her crew home with him for the night? When that changes and someone Paisley is working for him in his home, the lines blur again.
Bottom of the Ninth had me laughing often, but also broke my heart too. Both Zeke and the kids have been through so much and have been deeply hurt by those that should have loved and taken care of them. I loved how Zeke was falling not just for Paisley but also the kids, even if he didn't realize it.
There was a lot going on for Zeke, his feelings of inadequacy and a desire to be loved were at the heart of most of it. I felt sorry for him and knew that while it was fair that he was wary of his brothers, that he needed to talk to them to get some form of closure on that aspect. And he needed to open himself up to Love.
This was probably one of my favorite books in the series, because I really formed a connection to both Zeke and Paisley and their struggles. They felt like real people that I'd want to hang around in real life and their struggles were real and I could understand them. The kids added an extra bit to the story, they added emotion, they gave Zeke something to work with, he knew they had suffered and he didn't want them to remember it for the rest of their lives. I loved the interactions between Zeke and the kids.
Bottom of the Ninth was a beautifully written story that was about so much more than romance. It was about family, it was about fighting your inner demons and winning, and it was about finding forgiveness, if not for others, for yourself, so YOU can move on. I really loved that both Zeke and Paisley had struggles, they both had things in their past they fought against, and I really think that had they not found one another, they would have continued to drag their feet in moving past it all. Together they found a way to heal.

MY THOUGHTS:

This can be read as a standalone, but I wish I would have read the other books prior to this one to get the history of his brothers. It is not necessary though, there is enough information given in the book that you don’t feel like you stepped in the middle of something.
Zeke is definitely a tortured soul. His family life is all fabricated by his agent and he tries to portray the good guy, stay out of trouble athlete. He is a good guy, but he has so much pain from his past that he harbors that he is now in a batting slump and was traded to Seattle of all places! Both of his brothers play for their respective sporting teams, one plays pro hockey, the other plays pro football. Zeke wants nothing to do with them and tells them so repeatedly. Their family history will break your heart.
Paisley is on the run trying to make a new life for herself and her sister’s twins, Sophie and Sadie and her nephew Brayden. Her sister was found murdered and she knows her brother-in-law did it and is currently in jail for another charge, so she got temporary custody of the children and left Idaho for Seattle. Paisley didn’t have a happy childhood either but she was such a positive person. She worked hard to make life better for everyone.
This book took me on a journey that made my heart hurt at times. I felt so bad for the characters and all they went through as the story unfolded. They found refuge in each other’s arms and their chemistry is hot! Zeke and Paisley were believable, developed characters and the relationship they had with the children was wonderful. I enjoyed every heartbreaking moment.

Paisley didn’t have a happy childhood either but she was such a positive person. She worked hard to make life better for everyone.
This book took me on a journey that made my heart hurt at times. I felt so bad for the characters and all they went through as the story unfolded. They found refuge in each other’s arms and their chemistry is hot! Zeke and Paisley were believable, developed characters and the relationship they had with the children was wonderful. I enjoyed every heartbreaking moment.

4.5 stars - Boss/employee turned fake romance but the attraction & feelings in this sports romance aren’t quite fake
Bottom of the Ninth is a sports romance mixed with a single aunt who has taken custody of her sister’s three children. The book incorporates a down on her luck woman with a rich baseball player but both have experienced traumatic childhoods. Starting off as a boss/employee romance it turns to a fake romance but things aren’t quite so fake. The book completely captured me from start to finish with the strong plot and likeable characters. As a big fan of sports romances, this book didn’t let me down with expectation after loving the sound of this from its blurb and knowing Jami Davenport’s work already. Also, be assured, it can be read as a standalone despite being book 6 in the series; I personally haven’t read any of the previous books in this series.
Zeke and Paisley have an incredible attraction and chemistry as these two people with tough pasts find themselves having to face up to the poor hand life has dealt them but finding that maybe together things may finally improve for both. There is an instant attraction but as the book progresses it turns to a steady build up of the relationship between them before things get rather heated. The dual perspective helped develop and create these complex characters further and I personally loved reading both Zeke and Paisley’s interactions with Paisley’s two nieces, Sophie and Sadie, and her nephew, Brayden; the kid’s playing an integral part of this story.
Bottom of the Ninth is a well written sports romance that is steadily paced. The book has a good balance with enough drama and tension that bubbles along throughout to keep things interesting and the reader guessing to how thing would work out, including some surprising events at the end of the book that unravel the final underlying issues raised over the course of the book. Only thing that bugged me a little was how worried Paisley was regarding her circumstances and how public they behaved; just felt a little contradictory. Not a big thing but a niggle. In terms of the sports elements, I can’t comment on the accuracy of any baseball details talked about or described as I don’t follow it personally; as a novice, it read fine the small references and could easily enough be followed. However, don’t be put off if you aren’t into sports because the book is so much more than that and very easy to follow along. Personally, I loved that we got an epilogue that left you feeling fully satisfied with the HEA and that all ends had been tied up.
Overall, if you are looking for a brilliantly written contemporary romance or sports romance, definitely give this book a read. I really enjoyed it.

This is more than a sports romance. This book brings out the best and worse of people. There is so much back history that comes out on both sides and it is so heart felt that you get gripped into this book and want to know more as the story goes on. You think that Zeke is closed off from everyone because he is a jerk, but its more. This story revolves around a baseball player that has so much turmoil that he thinks he deserves nothing and Paisley that is trying to protect three children that have seen too much in their lives that they should never have seen. I am having such a difficult time writing this review because it comes a time that words that you need to express don't come to you and this is one of those times.
Zeke has got traded. You start to expect that after you have been in a slump for a year. He just never expected to be traded to the only city that he hates, because his brothers are there. He is trying to forget a past that he keeps bottled up. He is the baseball player that everyone loves, he doesn't do anything. He's clean, his reputation is that. When he gets into town he never expects on his way home to drench a woman and her three children. He never expects to invite them home, to give her a place to live, a job and to need her more than he will ever know. Zeke is this perfect guy with a horrible past so when that comes to light he then realizes he can't have anything good. Paisley is lost. She came to town expecting to have a home for her three nieces and nephew, not to homeless and not knowing what to do, so when Zeke is coming to the rescue then well things start the click. What happens next throws both of them, because neither are looking for someone but both need someone. These two show that broken can work. Love can be relentless when it wants to be. what you think you know of the past is sometimes not the whole story. That is what this book does, it tells a whole story. a story that shows if you find that person you can deal with just about anything.
I loved this book. The more you read the more you want. This author did such a great job with this book that I can't wait to read more from her. Great story the only thing I missed is that I wish there was more. More of what happened after everything.

Zeke Wolfe is a man who starts off at the top of my shit list – he appears to be a real jerk. He later redeems himself a little when I see he has a conscience. But then he speaks again and he’s right back at the top again. Paisley “Paze” Madison sets him on his ear and knocks him down a couple of pegs at the same time. He may grumble but it’s because of him that she’s in his life – and good thing too.
What I loved about the book was how the author created Paisley as a very resourceful woman. If she’s going to go up against Zeke she needs to be. We also see how creative our author is when she can create a character that if he were standing in front of you you’d tell him where to go and that he needs some kind of reality check. Children have a way of worming themselves into our hearts and the three in this story are no exception. Ms. Davenport has created a tale where you have no choice but to get involved.
I think there were times where Zeke had some “ah ha” moments but was it enough to redeem himself. Only you can decide when you finish the Epilogue. For me, I felt that Paisley could do better or at least make sure he stays on the straight and narrow. Yes, neither one is perfect but who is. She knows just the right way to twist him around her finger. She’s a woman who seems to be very creative and I would have loved to see some of her actual work. I know we can picture things in our mind but who doesn’t like to see how someone can transform something drab to fab.
Love baseball? Sad to see the season over? Do you root for the underdog? Well you could read this story and extend the season for just a little while. If you love football, there is one of those in this series and one coming soon. Maybe you’re a hockey fan, there are several of those as well. And if you haven’t read the series yet, and you love these sports, what a perfect time of year to get caught up. Would I continue this series? Sure, I’d love to see what our author has created. I’m also curious how she treats her male characters – if they’re all like Zeke - and if the women are strong and resourceful like Paisley.

I was anxiously awaiting reading BOTTOM OF THE NINTH about Zeke, the third Wolfe brother. I was not disappointed. I loved this book. Jami Davenport continues to do a fabulous job with both her character and plot development. This contemporary sports romance takes place in Seattle. It is suitable for adult audiences.
My heart went out to Zeke. He is the youngest of the Wolfe brothers. He was left to fend for himself with his father after the brothers moved out of the house to pursue their sports. I couldn’t believe the secrets he suppressed. It is understandable why he did not want anything to do with his brothers, but I was glad fate intervened, and they were thrown together.
Paisley Madison is an admirable heroine. I love that she took care of her late sister’s kids: Brayden, Sophie, and Sadie. She has a good heart. I love how Paisley and her charges came into Zeke’s life. She is determined and strong willed. Zeke and Paisley are perfect for each other. Zeke, Paisley, and the kids all needing each other to heal.
I thought the old house aspect of the story was clever. I like Zeke’s agent, Al Greenburg, and was glad he hired Paisley. I also, appreciated that he picked up Zeke’s brothers as clients. One Big Seattle Family was brilliant.
I enjoyed the plot and like how it tied in with Isaac Wolfe’s story MELTING ICE and Tanner Wolfe’s story BLINDSIDED. All three of the brothers of the brothers had a horrible childhood; turning against each other. I love that they were given an opportunity to talk things out and reconcile. I also, appreciated Paisley’s story and the similarities that the characters experienced, especially Zeke and Sadie.
BOTTOM OF THE NINTH by Jami Davenport was a heartwarming and exciting read. The story is well-written and has a great flow. This novel had me experiencing just about every emotion. I loved the characters and the plot. I highly recommend this read to anyone that enjoys sports romances. To fully appreciate this story; I suggest reading the books in order, or at least reading MELTING ICE and BLINDSIDED first.

A hot, sporty, good guy, what more do you need? Nothing! Except what you see isn't always what you get. Under the surface looks and fake smile, a damaged man can hide.
Zeke is a hot shot baseball player who is traded to Seattle as his performance on the pitch had been less than stellar. He has 2 estranged brothers, both of which play professional sports, (hockey and football), living in Seattle. The story behind their strained relationship is cause for much of the drama in the book. Paisley is doing it tough, caring for her sister's three young children. Zeke and Paisley are thrown together, but their relationship is not without complications, Zeke being the biggest obstacle in loves path.
This was my first Jami Davenport book, so diving into Bottom of the ninth I was slightly nervous as it is the 6th book in a series. I am happy to report that
although characters from previous books do feature, Bottom of the ninth is a standalone.
I enjoyed this book. The characters had depth and the story was substantial, however I feel the darker aspects of the story could have been drawn on to a greater extent to give more of a punch. There were times when the story was dragging on, then the ending felt slightly rushed.
I look forward to reading more books in the series. Sully is a bad boy I want to know more about!
