Fallen Guardin - Jesse Roman 'Olivia's wings, which were spread out in their full beauty, wrapped around Reese's back and kept him close to her so that he wouldn't drift away.'
She saved the only man she ever loved.
Now she has to pay.

I got given this book through the Goodreads Giveaway back in the summer which is also signed by Jesse. I cannot remember whether this was an advanced copy and it doesn't mention it at the front of the book but there were many grammar mistakes. The there they're and their was used incorrectly as well as here and hear. There was also a problem with the continuity, on page 73 Reese, the protagonist is referred to as Ryan?!? Another continuity error, we are told that you can only see your own guardian angel and in a scene when Archer shows up, Reese can't see or hear so Olivia has to say what Archer is saying but then a few pages later when Olivia is kidnapped, he's having a full on conversation with Archer when there's no one else there to translate for him.
The narrative had the potential to be fantastic but the way it was conveyed was pretty terrible.
I am not a fan of angels but I think I have to make an exception with Fallen Guardin by Jesse Roman. The disadvantage of reading his book in less than a day was that everything in the novel feels like fast forward. I don’t know but it feels, at least, to me, that everything that happens in the story was a bliss, it was so fast that I grasped everything on my own. And it haunts me and it was terrifying. Do you know, why? Because it was good. I was addicted to his writing style.
I couldn’t let myself stop with his words – it was like reading on a different realm of angels. I want more of his works and I will definitely catch up with this author. I wanted to know what will happen next. The novel is pretty much about love, sacrifice and everything life has to offer and it discusses sensitive subjects about human nature in which is a really good attribute to the novel. Despite this book, having so much of longing, regrets and agony – I love how Jesse Roman built up the tension of the characters.
He must have gone in a devastation before he could write something awful and beautiful at the same time. It was intoxicating and I could feel the sadness and the root of hollowness on his characters. I learned in his book that there’s a lot to consider, to prioritize, that sometimes, even if you are already on the top of something, in a short span of time, a success can be a failure. And in life, decisions matters most, what path or destiny or faith offers on you, there will be a time that you need to choose not for your own but for your love.
Jesse Roman gave us a novel that is indeed will make us inclined with his literature. Something to look forward to and something to read upon. A novel that seeks wanders and ruled by love. Something that will engrave and hear the noises of the silence through words. It was both beautiful and ugly at the same time. This book will tell you what love can do, what love can do so much with human, what feelings and emotions can crack someone to his deepest darkest pits and what can people do just for love.
Thank you, Jesse Roman, for writing such a good tale and I can’t wait to read Broken Guardin!
I want to start off by saying that this is not your typical Fallen Angel/Angel book. This isn't that some YA or just Fantasy you read all the time. This is extremely different. This is the type of book that is, for the most part, realistic...enough when it comes to the characters and the problems they face and the outcome. I wouldn't call this some sort of religious text either because that's not what it is.
This book was a very quick read. The writing flowed very well and I did enjoy the plot and most importantly, the characters that seemed to stand out. This is one of those books where you find yourself possibly feeling sorry for characters even if you know/think you shouldn't pity them. It literally is the most mind twisting thing any book lover can go through!
I had a love/hate relationship with most of the characters in this book. But that, I feel is a good thing. This is one of those books that seem to blend the line between good and bad in it's own way. It calls out both the pitiful and the arrogant. It wasn't biased and it wasn't the type of book to shove topics such as religion down your throat either. It was something that everyone would enjoy.
The only thing I would recommend before going into this book is don't expect to like all the characters or their decisions because realistically you wont. But that's what makes a book like this unique. There isn't some "Chosen One" their just people. That's it.
I thought the story was tad bit slow at times and wished that it would skip over some of the romance and get back to the plot at times. I wish there was just a tad less of that and a little bit more plot but on the other hand, I couldn't think of any big problems I had. I did notice and error or two grammatically but that doesn't bother me and it wasn't like it was a lot. Just about two. I may push the rating up to four starts, I haven't decided yet. We shall see.
I won this book in a goodreads giveaway. The premise was really interesting because of the concept of angels and guardian angels in this book. I went into the book with high hopes and ended up very disappointed. I had a really hard time finishing the book, and I almost did not finish. However, I decided to give it a fair chance and read it through to the end. I really wanted to like it but I just didn't. One of my biggest problems was all the mistakes. There was an error of some kind on every single page. There were awkward sentences, words in a weird order, weird descriptions of things, etc. There was also way too much tell and not enough show in this book. With a lot more editing and polishing this book would have been really good. I mean, on one page the main characters name was even wrong. He was called Ryan instead of Reese. I hate giving books low ratings but I am giving this book an honest review and rating.
