Kyla

Since rumour got out that I cheated on an American War Hero, nothing's gone my way. Because of him, Hunter Sykes, I lost everything, five years ago. I know I’m just as guilty but if it weren’t for him, I could be working for NASA right now instead of being stuck in this dead-end town. Of course no one blamed Hunter, because Hunter was dead.

But now that I’ve moved on and have a new life with Liam, an ex-Marine, my past has returned to haunt me. When I heard he was still alive and spent the past five years as a P.O.W., I just had to see him with my own eyes.

I shouldn't be surprised. Even after five years in a prison camp, he's still going around, trying to screw everything on two legs—including me.

All I want is for the past to stay buried, but as long as this cocky bad boy is walking around town, that’s never going to happen.

Hunter

I was pretty sure I was going to die in that P.O.W. camp, so I started thinking about regrets and all the people I hurt and bullshit like that. It took a while. There were a lot of regrets. But even with the barrel of an AK pressed against my skull, I just couldn’t convince myself that screwing Kyla Rose was one of them. I wanted it to be—I wanted to regret it so badly. I’d just watched a bullet end her boyfriend, my best friend, Sammy Boy’s life. The least I could do was regret screwing his girlfriend the night before we shipped out.

Now that I'm back, the military won't let me talk to her, and she’s hell-bent on staying as far away from me as she can. But her and I've got unfinished business, and I'm not letting anyone stand in my way.

I've read more than my fair share of badly edited books, of poorly written stories with dreadful plot-lines and even worse characters, so i thought that i could easily identify the signs by now. Although everything pointed towards to this title being a mediocre one, i decided to start it mostly because i was in the mood for an overbearing Alpha-male.

As you can already tell by the rating, that didn't go as planed. Just to clarify it again, i wasn't expecting to be blown away by this book but nothing could prepare me for what i read, either.
The story was so frail, random and painfully stupid that had me rolling my eyes too many times to count. The main hero Hunter, was the only saving grace but he wasn't enough to turn it around.

Kyla on the other hand, the heroine, was awful. I hated her from the beginning and never changed my mind about her. I saw an inadequate person, who never tried for anything in her life except maybe fucking random guys. She wanted to become an Astrophysicist, but some unknown teacher called the college and informed them that she cheated on her SAT so they throw her out without even checking up the story? I'm gonna let that pass without comment.

As i will the age conundrum of Kyla stating that she is 27 while only 5 years passed since she was 18. Oh how time flies.. when you are not even aware of how old you are. How difficult is it? Peak a number and stick to it. If those things weren't enough, it also seems that in 2010 facebook wasn't around according to Hunter oh and top-secret military classified information aren't sanitized or at least redacted, no they are waiting around for people to stumble upon them. Nice conspiracy by the way.

I won't even start commenting on the writing, the non existent editing or the peculiar and unexplained sub-plots that are left half-finished and still bother me. I will just say that it wasn't worth the reading and that is my first 1 star book for the year.

THOUGHTS ABOUT THE BOOK

- I still don't know if her ex was bad or not. I can't decide.
- The first ex though, Sammy, was a scumbag.
- I liked the premise.
- Their friend Greg was really crazy. He needed help not a weekend at a cabin.

I received this book as an ARC for an honest review. That being said, if bought it I probably would've deleted from my kindle a couple chapters in. First chapter, 3 lines in I was irritated. Never have I heard the barrel of a gun referred to as a nozzle, muzzle yes, but nozzle? No that's what you use to put gas in your car. I had trouble following the time line, which is always a pet peeve of mine. There were statements that had specific years in them, such as 2008 and 2010, however there were many references toward the military that made me think more of the Vietnam era, such as "He hated Hippies and Communists." As well as the statements that Sammy was "An American war hero," because he died during a mission. It's not often, unfortunately, that soldiers are referred to that way after their demise, any longer. The heroine was someone that supposedly is very smart with wealthy parents, with scholarships to college. Yet she spends one night with one member of the special forces team, who happens not to be her boyfriend, and that's all taken away?! Seems a little far fetched that someone could call the college and state she cheated on her SATs, seems to me there'd be some kind of investigation. That aside, the story picks up five years later, well really 4 1/2, as we were often reminded, when the hero Hunter and Greg, another member of the special forces team who also grew up in the same town escape their POW camp and come home. Hunter finds Kyla, the heroine working in a bar, living in a trailer with another "war hero" who had been discharged from the marines for conduct unbecoming. We won't even discuss the fact he likes to rough Kyla up a bit. Someone please explain why she lived with the abuse of the towns people, and her boyfriend. It's time to move on, and most women would've moved on when the town started harassing her after her boyfriend's death. I continued to read in hopes that it would get better, but I didn't find that at all. We next moved onto government conspiracies and cover ups. As far fetched as plans for Hunter and Greg being shipped off to prisons "worse than Gitmo" because they may know something about the cover up that was the mission they were killed on. This was after the military sent them to a cabin in the woods by themselves, because Greg couldn't get his act back together. The man needed serious psychological help, and their answer, send them to the woods. I'm sorry but I just couldn't get into this book.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Kyla Rose made one mistake as a teen and has been the next five years paying for it. That mistake cost not only cost Kyla her reputation in her small hometown but her family and college scholarship. Kyla’s mistake - sleeping with her cheating boyfriend’s best friend and them being killed while on a peacekeeping mission a few months later.

Hunter Sykes was presumed dead for almost five years. The reality was, he was a prisoner of war. When he was captured, he witnessed members of his teams being murdered. He lost additional team members while in captivity and witnessed one of his oldest friends lose touch with reality. Hunter survived by remembering his stolen night of passion. He had no idea the fallout from that night. However, his new mission is to claim Kyla as his own. Let the fireworks begin.

I felt sorry for Kyla from the very beginning of this story. She had a promising future that was snatched away from her due to one indiscretion. Most of the citizens of Nintipi remember Sammy has a good boy and a war hero. Their selective memory of Sammy was used to abuse, batter and demean Kyla. Luckily, she’s a fighter and didn’t give up, although she was the town pariah, she made the best of a bad situation. Hunter can only be described as over-the-top. He is larger-than-life and uber cocky. However, when he realizes that Kyla is in danger thanks to his selfishness, he moves heaven and earth to get to her. I’m not sure how I feel about them as a couple, but you can feel the respect and lust that flows between them. I guess that’s a good starting point.

Hunter is the first book that I’ve read by Cordelia Blanc and I will definitely check out her future work.

I received the book as an ARC copy in exchange for an honest review.

Kyla and Hunter did the unthinkable one night, Kyla cheating on her boyfriend and Hunter sleeping with his best friends girl, no less the night before they are deployed. Then one day they get news that Kyla's boyfriend Sammy passed away, and her secret gets loose into her city by someone she thought she could trust and then everyone in her town treats her like an outsider. Then 4 1/2 years later news gets out that there were survivors, Hunter is one of them. Kyla's boyfriend of 3 years then starts to act completely different once Hunter is back.

What I enjoyed most about Hunter: A Bad Boy Military Romance is how Kyla and Hunter have known each since childhood and they do have this friendship that is unbreakable, how they both care for each other. Hunter is very protective of Kyla and always has been even Kyla had no clue about some of that protectiveness. I like how they have this great chemistry, and in the end love.

This book is Fantastic, I have never read anything from this author before but I do love her way of writing. If you like books that have bad ass military men, intimate moments, crazy moments, with some sad times added. Also 2 people learning what they want most in this life and fighting for it, and doing whatever it takes to get there. If you like stories like this, then Hunter: A Bad Boy Military Romance is a must.

Let me start out with this book was good. I am a sucker for a good military romance. This is not like any military romance book I have read before. Kyla is a good girl. Hunter is a well known bad boy. Sammy is Kyla's girlfriend and Hunter's best friend. Hunter and Sammy are headed off on a mission. The night before they deploy they party. One thing leads to another and Kyla ends up with Hunter. While on mission, Sammy and Hunter are captured and held as POW. Only one of them makes it out alive. Kyla is at home living her own true life hell. As you can probably tell from the title, Hunter is a main character. This story follows the ups and downs that the two have to face. It is surprising and sexy at the same time. Cordelia Blanc did a wonderful job of keeping you on your toes for this emotional and fast paced roller coaster. I do have to say, there may be some triggers in this book for some people. There is domestic abuse. Overall, having been the first I have read from Cordelia Blanc, I have to say I look forward to more in the future. I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I was provided a copy of the book by the Author for an honest review.

I just finished reading this book, and I have to say that this is the first book that I read from this author, and I love it, love the characters, and love how the book turned out to be, this book is full of surprises and twist, I'm going to keep this short since I don't want to give anything away.

The story begging with Kyla, she live in a small town she has clear future ahead of her, but all the changes the night that she slept with her best friend Hunter before he was deployed to a mission, but that night her life changed after the mission that Hunter, her ex boyfriend Sammy and friend Greg when to the mission when wrong and they did not make it according to the report, after that no one wanted to know about her, her life when down the drain, her future of going to college did not happen, and the town people started to call her names specially witch, on one bad date she end up meeting Liam and be with him for three years.

Now five years later and Kyla get to hear that the survivors from the attack where coming home, that's when she knew she had to go see for herself to see if Hunter and Greg where really alife, she couldn't believe it and she was mad at herself. When Hunter step down from the airplane he couldn't believe that he was back to his town, and that the only person he wanted to see was Kyla, but after talking to her and seen how things where going he was started to be suspicious, when they where to pts treatment he was not expecting to be in a cabin in the middle of nowhere, and let alone to have Kyla showing up.

After spending a week with Hunter and Greg and some bad accident, Kayla and Hunter get to be split up, Kyla was sent back to her house, while Hunter was sent to a unknown base, on the first night back to work Kayla get a visit from the military lawyer, who gave her some words that got her digging for clues, will she get Hunter free from the base, or will Hunter scape from their too.

I really love and enjoy reading this book, love how Hunter and Kyla fought for survival, love how they are with each other, I will be reading more of this author book.

Conspiracy theories, cover ups, blackmail, old loves returning and south more. I actually liked this story grab my attention from the start. About childhood friends becoming more.
Kyla, Sammy Boy, Hunter and Greg knew each other since very young. She also was dating Sammy in high school but she didn't know he was cheating on her until he caught him with an underage drunk girl, then she slept with Hunter that night before Hunter, Greg and Sammy were to be shipped out. Then her life turned to bell when her best friend told Kyla's secret and spread and turned this promising future NASA genius into the town's joke. She was stoned, thrown around, hurt, even had a teacher call her college to say she cheated on her tests and her dream of college and NASA was revoked. Even years later her life is in the sewers.
Hunter is alive but can't tell his side of the story of his real mission in special ops. But when his little town know a that he and Greg are alive and coming back, he is still a hero. But he is told not to tell the truth, not to go outside nor contact Kyla. Well he is not the best trained solider so he went again two of those orders and went out to find the one woman that he can't stop thinking about. What he found is the same woman but also she is also broken. He don't know the shell she's been through since he's been gone or what she deals with on her current boyfriend and he's rage. Will these two ever be together or will even the government keep these two apart and hide what really happened to their last remaining friend Greg.

In one night, Kyla and Hunter did the unthinkable. Kyla cheating on her boyfriend and Hunter slept with his best friends girl. Worst, the night before they are deployed! Then, one day they get news that Kyla's boyfriend, Sammy, passed away along with Hunter. With this, her secret is out by someone she thought she could trust. Everyone in her town treats her like an outsider. Then years later, news gets out that there are survivors and Hunter is one of them. Now, Kyla is dating someone new. But when Hunter returns home, things change. And Kyla's boyfriend is not really happy.

What I enjoyed most about Hunter: A Bad Boy Military Romance is how Kyla and Hunter have known each since childhood. They're friendship is unbreakable and they both care for each other. Hunter is very protective of Kyla and always has been into Kyla. I loved how the author ended this story.

I've never read anything from this author before but I do love her writing. The twist and turns were awesome and I need more from her. Read this book if you love a good military story.

Goodness, kudos to Kyla for all she went through - girlfriend to Sammy, drunken sexual encounter with Hunter and then the humiliation she endured from her own community. This story hints at government conspiracies and the extent the government will go to conceal things. Though the story was a bit confusing in the beginning as I read further into the book it became clear that this book was looking at an enduring love between two people who were dealing with the knowledge they had of the government's covert missions. An interesting story.

I received an exclusive arc for an honest review. Hunter was a really engaging, action packed, kind of crazy story. And I loved every minute of it. The main book, Hunter, is finished at about 39%. The first bonus novel is Gage. This story took place in a short period of time. It wasn’t as engaging as Hunter, but still good, interesting, and had some action. The second bonus novel was Limelight Love. It was a sweet story, not as sexy as the others and no bad language, still a cute love story.

This is a fast paced action packed read that I found very interesting. The whole government conspiracy element added a significant amount of suspense to this story and kept me wanting to find out what would happen next. I really enjoyed the chemistry between Kyla and Hunter and I liked how everything turned out in the end. I highly recommend reading this and I received a copy of this book from Hidden Gems for an honest review.

Bureaucratic runaround!

I was given this book as an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This book does bring to the forefront a real significant problem in today's military society that many people refuse to address, PTSD. I relate with military quite emotionally t times. The author did capture my attention literally with the ties to all the secrecy
And bureaucratic bs that goes on. I was immersed cover to cover.

Editing errors gave me a headache. The story wasn't much better.

The premise sounded great. Love lost and drama too. Sign me up. What I got was a sadly not living up to the hype.
I didn't hate it. Some scenes were good but no connection to the main character leaves you along for the ride. It wasn't really anything worth recommending.

I was given a copy for an honest review.

I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I have mixed feelings about this book. The story itself is a very interesting one and I liked the characters, but some of the writing isn't great and some incidents are a little out of proportion. And I would love to know more about what happens at the end. It's a very good read unless you're super critical.

"I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review." Great book and I liked the characters in the end. Took a while for me to get into it but once the ball was rolling it was pretty good. I liked the fact that real life tragedies were incorporated into the characters, things that affect people in real life.
