Upon Rui Hanazawa's return from France, Tsukushi's feelings for him also return.

Yōko Kamio (神尾葉子) is a popular Japanese manga artist and writer. She is most famous for Boys Over Flowers (花より男子, Hana Yori Dango?), for which she received the Shogakukan Manga Award in 1996. Her work has been translated and distributed in Asia, Europe, and North America.
Yōko Kamio readily admits that she had no intention of becoming a professional manga artist when she was young. Kamio originally went to secretarial school, but her love of drawing soon led her astray. She then eventually entered the professional mangaka field in 1989. In the following years, Kamio published Suki Suki Daisuki, Ano Hi ni Aitai, and Meri-san no Hijitsu in Margaret before she finally created Hana Yori Dango in 1992.
The Hana Yori Dango manga became established relatively quickly in Japan. Many people commended Kamio for her realistic portrayal of high school life and everyday violence through the Hana Yori Dango series. Although Kamio was initially surprised by the confessions of high school violence stated in fan letters, she realized that Tsukushi's fiery character served as a role model for much of Japan's youth and helped others cope with school violence.
Kamio watched as the success of Hana Yori Dango's 1992 début followed through with many more months on the best-sellers list. Voice CDs by SMAP and a live action movie about Hanadan charted the series success in the mid-1990s. By 1995, an animated series for Hana Yori Dango was already in progress and Kamio had also helped pick main leads for the anime show.
Hana Yori Dango ran in the Japanese Margaret magazine as well as the Korean Wink. The series has also been published in Japanese, Chinese, Cantonese, Thai, Korean, French, and English. The anime series has been broadcasted in Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Italy, and has also been licensed and released in the United States. Additionally, it was also recreated in a Game Boy Color game (only released in Japan) during the summer of 2001. With its ever-increasing popularity, Hana Yori Dango was then made into a popular live action TV series in Taiwan titled Meteor Garden. The manga series finally ended in Margaret's August 2003 issue, and the 36th tankōbon which included the Akira special "Night of the Crescent Moon" was released in January 2004 as the manga's final volume.
While Yoko Kamio initially wanted Hanazawa Rui to be the main hero of Hana Yori Dango, due to the outstanding personality of Domyoji Tsukasa (and Domyoji also becoming more popular than Rui) she changed the hero role to Domyoji.
Despite Hana Yori Dango's success, Kamio had originally planned to end the series by Spring 2000. However, in February 2000, at a mangaka conference in Taipei, Taiwan Kamio announced that she would continue writing Hana Yori Dango. At one point, she got so wrapped up in the Hana Yori Dango storyline, that she confessed to having dreams about Doumyouji. Of course, she said that "Falling in love with a character that I created is just disgusting..."
tsukushi is a trainwreck in this one. rui is back and she "accidentally" kisses him and, of course, gets caught by tsukasa. enraged, he vows never to speak to her again and kicks rui out of the F4. at least tsukushi realizes what a tool she's been, but she can't really decide what to do and thus ends up going on the world's most awkward date with rui. (i thought her previous first date with tsukasa was awkward until she goes out with rui, bloodies her nose walking into a door, and rui walks in on her on the can. and then she starts crying. amazing!)
anyway. at the end of this one, rui and tsukushi are sort of together as an outcast pair, and tsukasa is warming to that weird girl with the puffy hair and plastic surgery. also, tsukasa's sister, tsubuki, is back for a visit and has taken a shining to tsukushi. AND rui is replaced in the F4 by....

In Volume 7, emotions run high as Tsukushi faces new challenges to her place in Tsukasa’s world. This installment leans on emotional confrontations and moments of vulnerability, making it feel more heartfelt than flashy. While the central romance progresses in small but meaningful ways, the story still uses repetitive misunderstandings as a source of tension, which can feel predictable. The art remains expressive, excelling in showing the shifts between comedic chaos and serious emotion.
This is the first redemption of Rui in the books.... at least he stuck with her. He didn't try to blame her to get back into the F4, although that wouldn't be in line with his character. What would though is him just being like okay then bye ya'll and then leaving or checking out of the whole situation. But he doesn't, and that's the first right thing he's done. Pineapple-head on the other hand....look I know you've got serious emotional damage and abandonment issues, but get a hold of yourself. I will say, since meteor garden is set with them in college, I find it much more believable a high school boy would act so childish.
This series is getting more outrageous by the minute.
Tsukushi, honey, I understand you 100%... ITS JUST THE BOYS THAT I DONT UNDERSTAND.
I DONT UNDERSTAND. RUIN WHY HAVE U CHANGED LIKE THAT THAT IS DESPICABLE. PLAYING WITH WOMENS HEARTS WHYYYY I USED TO REALLY LIKE U BUT DAMMM GUESS NOT ANYMORE
AND TSUKASA OH TSUKASA... I.... *takes out gun and shoots him* STOP LOOKING SO HOPEFUL U BRAT UR 100 TIMES WORSE THAN THAT BASTARD RUI.
Hello Tsubaki! Big sister is here and Kazuya is now the new member if F4 replacing Rui.
Well, Rui and Makino are like bonnie and clyde now. Haha. They even went out on a date this time! Even though I can see Tsukasa’s pain and jealousy, I think it is interesting to see how the story goes.
It's Boys Over Flowers: it's ridiculous and wonderful, but un-ratable because I'd have to do a complete dissection of the manga and separate all my love for the series and Kdrama, with all the problematic content.
Another good volume and I'm getting into the series. It is making me want to watch the kdrama again. For more on my opinions of the series see my reviews for volumes 1-6.
This manga contains taming of the beast. In this manga, and main character is Tsukushi Makino and evil is Domyoji Tsukasa. Domyoji Tsukasa started to change a good person.
Tsubaki es sin duda uno de mis personajes favoritos. Entra en escena como un huracán. Por otro lado, la relación de Domyoji y Makino está de lo más tensa.
When Domyoji spies Rui giving Makino a kiss on the beach, he gets angry (rightfully so). He kicks Rui out of F4 and replaces him with Kazuya. Sakurako tries to use this event as a way to get closer to Domyoji, but seems to have little luck in getting him to date her. Makino has a first date with Rui, but the date isn't all that she dreamed it would be. She keeps comparing him to Domyoji (and not favorably). Their conversations are stilted and they have nothing to do. B-O-R-I-N-G!
With the introduction of Domyoji's sister, Tsubaki, I begin to understand why Domyoji is attracted to Makino. Tsubaki practically raised Domyoji, and he sees her as an ideal woman. She's forceful and brash, but caring as well. Around Domyoji, Makino acts the same way. Thus, Domyoji's instant attraction!
Makino and Rui seriously hurt Domyoji's feelings, and that's why he's trying so hard to get back at them. He wants them to feel as betrayed as he does right now. He targets them specifically in replacing Rui in F4 with Kazuya. He wants them to be ostracized by everyone they care about. At first, I thought this was typical Domyoji overreaction, but now I know this just shows us how devastated he was by this betrayal from the two people he trusted the most.
Makino needed the time away from Domyoji to realize how much she likes him. When she finally gets her wish to date Rui, she sees that he's nothing like she imagined. He's not her ideal at all. Surprisingly, all she can do when with him is compare him (unfavorably) to Domyoji. Without the opportunity, Makino might have dreamt of Rui forever and never been able to get serious with Domyoji.
Oh forget it! What I really need to say is: Oh, my fucking God! What the hell is up with these people? Are they for real? Well, obviously not and thank God for that, but still! What is wrong with Tsukushi? She's with Tsukasa and decides she likes Rui. So she stuffs things up with him and ends up getting what she wants - Rui. But NOOOO,as soon as she's with Rui, she can't stop thinking about Tsukasa. MAKE. UP. YOUR. MIND! Can't have the best of both worlds, sweetheart!
Personally, I'd go for Tsukasa, because Rui is just plain boring.
Ugh, I really don't like Rui. In fact, I think I like Tsukasa the Jerk more than Rui the Disinterested. At least when Tsukasa isn't being an ass he has a personality. He is the same always. Rui's emo/happy/disinterested/boring/bland/why is this character liked by anyone-ness is annoying and not charming like I think it's supposed to be. I don't think any girl would honestly be attracted to someone so boring, and really, is nearly just of big as an asshole as Tsukasa...he might not be a jerk in the physical way, but in the emotional way he is.
There was something in the way all of the characters came together that I found irresistibly compelling about this series. It did remind me a lot of Ouran while I was reading it and maybe that is why I liked it so much. Tsukushi is an interesting protagonist, I loved when she started taking action and sticking up for herself.
While I wasn’t overly fond of the artwork style I was able to get past it because I my love for the storyline. This is an honest story with twists and turns, ups and downs, but then again that is real life.
I can't blame Tsukasa for being upset, but he always handles things in the worst way imaginable!! Also, I just have to say how truly scummy it was for Rui to kiss Tsukushi like that. He knows she's been in love with him for quite a while, he still has feelings for Shizuka, and Tsukasa is supposed to be his close friend! I appreciate that he's trying to be good in the aftermath of his poor choices to Tsukushi. It shows that he does have some decency.
