Tsukushi shocks everyone by making it all the way to the final competition in the Miss Teen Japanese Contest. Her striking individuality and dumb luck have gotten her a long way indeed! Now the field is narrowed down to Tsukushi and Ayano, the competition favorite. The final event will determine the girl most likely to become a "good wife and wise mother." Who is fit to judge such a contest? Why, twenty-one kindergarteners, of course! Unfortunately for Tsukushi, the innocent little darlings remind her of the F4...!
Yōko Kamio (神尾葉子) is a popular Japanese manga artist and writer. She is most famous for Boys Over Flowers (花より男子, Hana Yori Dango?), for which she received the Shogakukan Manga Award in 1996. Her work has been translated and distributed in Asia, Europe, and North America.
Yōko Kamio readily admits that she had no intention of becoming a professional manga artist when she was young. Kamio originally went to secretarial school, but her love of drawing soon led her astray. She then eventually entered the professional mangaka field in 1989. In the following years, Kamio published Suki Suki Daisuki, Ano Hi ni Aitai, and Meri-san no Hijitsu in Margaret before she finally created Hana Yori Dango in 1992.
The Hana Yori Dango manga became established relatively quickly in Japan. Many people commended Kamio for her realistic portrayal of high school life and everyday violence through the Hana Yori Dango series. Although Kamio was initially surprised by the confessions of high school violence stated in fan letters, she realized that Tsukushi's fiery character served as a role model for much of Japan's youth and helped others cope with school violence.
Kamio watched as the success of Hana Yori Dango's 1992 début followed through with many more months on the best-sellers list. Voice CDs by SMAP and a live action movie about Hanadan charted the series success in the mid-1990s. By 1995, an animated series for Hana Yori Dango was already in progress and Kamio had also helped pick main leads for the anime show.
Hana Yori Dango ran in the Japanese Margaret magazine as well as the Korean Wink. The series has also been published in Japanese, Chinese, Cantonese, Thai, Korean, French, and English. The anime series has been broadcasted in Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Italy, and has also been licensed and released in the United States. Additionally, it was also recreated in a Game Boy Color game (only released in Japan) during the summer of 2001. With its ever-increasing popularity, Hana Yori Dango was then made into a popular live action TV series in Taiwan titled Meteor Garden. The manga series finally ended in Margaret's August 2003 issue, and the 36th tankōbon which included the Akira special "Night of the Crescent Moon" was released in January 2004 as the manga's final volume.
While Yoko Kamio initially wanted Hanazawa Rui to be the main hero of Hana Yori Dango, due to the outstanding personality of Domyoji Tsukasa (and Domyoji also becoming more popular than Rui) she changed the hero role to Domyoji.
Despite Hana Yori Dango's success, Kamio had originally planned to end the series by Spring 2000. However, in February 2000, at a mangaka conference in Taipei, Taiwan Kamio announced that she would continue writing Hana Yori Dango. At one point, she got so wrapped up in the Hana Yori Dango storyline, that she confessed to having dreams about Doumyouji. Of course, she said that "Falling in love with a character that I created is just disgusting..."
Definitely appreciate the result of the competition. Does she really, after only training for a few weeks, deserve that first place prize over the other girl? Not to me. So I'm happy with the special prize for her. But the cutest parts of this volume are with the little kids. Both in the competition when Makino devolves from the proper young lady into middle class sister mode. And also at the Zoo with that idiot. In both the show and in the books, the two of them at the zoo with the little kid, beeeest example of how they might actually work as a couple.

Aside from the last 2 or 3 parts this one was different and may be because of that I like it more. At the beginning I didn't like Domyoji much, but with every part I'm starting - this or I'm really into Lee Min Ho's character from "Boys Over Flowers". Anyway...I just want new characters to stop popping and if it's possible to not be in love with Makino.
Volume 12 delivers a mix of high-stakes drama and tender moments as Tsukushi and Tsukasa inch closer emotionally, even while circumstances keep pulling them apart. The family pressures on Tsukasa become more pronounced, adding weight to his choices and highlighting the gap between their worlds. While the romance advances in subtle ways, the story still leans on misunderstandings to fuel tension. The expressive art captures the emotional highs and lows well, making the volume an engaging, if slightly formulaic, read.
Thank god it was not the obvious result of the Teen of Japan competition. I am happy with the results. I adore Rui the kid from competition who wanted to spend the day with Tsukashi. <3
I don't understand why she has to act weird around Damyouji?! She is capable of having a mature conversation with everyone else than Tsukasa! Duh!!!
Wow, this keeps getting better and better!! I've binge reading it so far, I can't keep off reading..... It's also so much fun in many moments!! ❤️ Excellent chemistry between the main couple!! ❤️ I'm all about it!!
I like this book so much because Tsukushi is pure and working hard to her family. In this book, she competes the beauty contest because she needs the money to 1st place. But it is difficult to take 1st place in beauty contest because the other players have a lot of money and elegance. She scare because of that, but she fights them.
I also like Doumyouji believes Tsukushi. In the beauty contest scene, he believe Tsukushi when she couldn't well. He looks like hate Tsukushi but actually he likes Tsukushi I think.

Well, I guess I have seen the last of Kin-san as Makino has told him, after placing 2nd in the competition, that she will not be his gf.
The little version of F4 in the last round of the competition were cute btw especially Ryu-chan. He even went to visit Makino on christmas day where she was supposedly to go out on a date with Tsukasa. Hehe.
Anyway, on the last chapter, as usual the two got into a fight again. But then... winter vacation was there so let’s see how they will patch things up.
The best part of this volume was Makino playing with the little kids during the beauty contest and totally forgetting to act refined. I love how she just has a great time playing with them.
The sweetest think Domyoji has done so far is the date with Makino at the zoo with the little boy. Yes, he was not happy about it at first, but it was so sweet the way he softens towards the little boy.
Looking forward to the Canadian ski trip in the next volume.
So, I did like the third round of Teen of Japan. She actually does well, instead of skating by on weird contrivances. Then she is going to spend Christmas with Tsukasa and I thought that would be nice. A little bit of it was, but it just devolved and I'm really tired of these two people fighting with each other.
Volume 12 ends the plot arc of the Miss Teen Japanese Contest and I'm sad that it's over. To everyone's shock, Tsukushi manages to make it all the way to the final round of the contest. Her only challenger and the competition favorite is Ayano, the fiance of Amakusa. Tsukushi takes a liking to Ayano and admires her competitiveness and her dedication to Amakusa. The volume begins in a moment of panic and hilarity. Tsukushi has to entertain 21 kindergartners for 15 minutes. The kids are spoiled brats and they remind her of the F4. Since the kids remind her of the F4, she tries to win them over by challenging them to play simple games like Horse. Tsukushi even has Ayano join her until the competition ends and a winner is announced. Tsukushi is happy with the result and declines Amakusa's offer to be his girlfriend. Meanwhile Tsukasa tells Tsukushi he loves her during a firework celebration and of course Tsukushi couldn't hear anything! Tsukasa asks Tsukushi out on a date but the date is crashed by one of the kindergartner who looks strikingly similar to Tsukasa both in facial features and in temperament. So instead of Tsukushi and Tsukasa being alone, all three go on a date to the zoo. Once again we are shown the sweet, quiet moments of Tsukasa along with with his bad temper and stubbornness. The date ends in a disaster with a huge arguement between Tsukasa and Tsukushi, but have no fear, the reminder of the F4 have a plan to bring these two together but it's not going to be easy!
There was something in the way all of the characters came together that I found irresistibly compelling about this series. It did remind me a lot of Ouran while I was reading it and maybe that is why I liked it so much. Tsukushi is an interesting protagonist, I loved when she started taking action and sticking up for herself.
While I wasn’t overly fond of the artwork style I was able to get past it because I my love for the storyline. This is an honest story with twists and turns, ups and downs, but then again that is real life.
Sigh. Domoyouji is an idiot, yet he really does like Tsukushi. I really don't get Tsukushi's thinking. Honestly, she always likes the worst guys. Sigh. I'm all for Domoyouji in this one, and I don't really feel much connection with Tsukushi at all.
Seriously!!!! I want her to be the same kick ass girl from the first volume. Why doesn't she kick those nosy girls in the and tell them to mind their own business??
Competition's over, and while Tsukushi didn't take home the cake, she certainly got a slice. Instead of paying back the remaining 700,000 yen she owes Tsukasa, Tsukasa says he'll buy a date for Christmas for that amount. After their date being crashed by a funny five year old, the remaining 3 of the F-4 invite Tsukasa and Yuki to a skiing trip. In CANADA.
My God! Tsukushi menolak cinta Kin???? Why, Mbak? Why????
