Every last thing you look at on the net is monitored and recorded. Nothing is sacred. Someone, somewhere, knows your deepest, darkest secrets. Are your intentions noble when you open up your laptop? Because the living aren't the only ones watching, the dead are too.
So next time you go surfing the darknet, beware.
And if you get an email from ‘dead.com’, whatever you do, don’t open it...
Because those snuff films might be the last thing you ever see.
Sam West is a British, extreme horror author with more than forty books to her name. If you like your fiction dark, gritty, gory, perverse and truly terrifying, then you're in the right place.
After I read the first 3 chapters, I thought it would be a book of individual stories. Which didn't make sense with West's intro to the readers. I feel kinda dense now because the three stories ended up being part of a bigger story. It was a website, very similar to that horror movie to where if you watch the video, you die. Except in West's version, you die by your worst fear. Good read
This book was frickin brutal. And I enjoyed every minute of it! "4" different depraved tales. And out of the four, #2 disgusted me! Dude reminded me of that creepy guy in the movie, "The Human Centipede 2!" Yuk! What made me sick was this line; There was so much other disturbing/nasty vile things in this book but that scene made me physically sick! I can't deal with disgusting non-hygiene! Hell-to-the-frickin-no, get that stinky dick away from me! Yuk! *barf*
I really like watching creepy videos on YouTube--especially the ones that claim to be from the dark web, but we all know are just student film projects. In Dead Dot Com, the horrific online videos are very real and claiming viewers as victims. Reminded me of The Ring for the millennial generation.
Anthology-type novel with a healthy dose of extreme violence
Wow! Extreme violence and brutality!!!
I enjoyed the story and liked how the clips of people’s lives were intertwined with a larger story. This is an anthology-type novel. It will remind you of “The Ring”, “VHS”, “The Human Centipede”, “The Devil’s Rejects”, and “Boxing Helena”.
I rated it four star simply because it reminded me of so many horror films. I would have liked it much more if Sam West has included some truly unique kill scenes.
The book is a quick and fun read. I think Sam West is a fantastic writer and has some incredible ideas. However it in this story, I wasn’t crazy about the ending.
This was well a tale, feels like it could be a little better! The writer had the right idea! Gave good vibes of VHS and Bloodbite stories. I love both of those TV shows so this was like a book version.
We've got of a bit of The Ring here for the digital age. Well you know, if the director of that movie was deeply disturbed and probably an escapee from the local mental institution. :) I'm giving this author their own shelf, which means I plan on reading enough of their books to warrant it. Can't think of a higher compliment. Of course it does make me wonder what is wrong with me...haha
Sam West with another morbid story. Creepy and sick! Loved every moment. What a twisted mind this man has and if you love this mans work you almost have to question you own mind.
Well, ah....yeah that was a read and a half. It's full of violence and brutality, rape and gore. At first nothing seems to make sense and it's page after page of women being brutalized. You know how when you read something bad...but they did it really well? That's the kind of writing this book has. The story didn't capture me, didn't keep much of my attention, and my head reeled with "but why?" because even as a fan of gore and violence and all things spooky, I just didn't feel connected with this particular story. And this isn't saying anything against the author, like I said it's actually well written. At first it had me thinking this guy just has his jollies wrapped up in people being tortured. But you know, some people are just drawn to all things bad. That doesn't make them bad people, or bad writers, it just means their imaginations are a little different than the average persons would be. This is not a book for someone looking for a deep, in depth story with twists and turns and characters you want to cling to (mostly because half of them are dead within the first few pages of meeting them? I digress). This is a book to read for thrills, and to settle down for a read that's just going to churn your stomach. Not a bad book by any means, but certainly will have its niche audience. I commend the author on writing something that had me wanting to look away, if that was his intention, he certainly succeeded, good visuals, good...torture...scenes (I guess? How do you compliment someone writing a torture scene?), good book to just dive into for a night and let yourself be sickened and disturbed. I may dive into his other works to see if this sort of thing is a common theme with him, it probably is, and I'll probably once again settle in to bed and sip my tea while I read, just to be entertained for the night.
I suppose to wrap this up into a TLDR version: Good writing, lots of torture porn ahead. Don't read if you want heavy substance and less gore and rape and violence. Do read if you want to be disturbed and grossed out for a night.
Your fantasies grow stronger every day. They are beginning to creep into your waking life, they threaten your very sanity with their intensity.
Entering the darkness of absolute depravity, readers witness tale after tale as they wind together into a cursed film of sorts. Snuff videos of horrific contents, from cannibalism, to bloody stabbing a, to limbless torsos of woman sewn together, Those who watched the videos will be forever cursed to a death to be added. Horrified by the thought of her husband Gary’s infidelity, Ella turned towards her best friend Jen to soothe her frazzled nerves, but instead invited them both to a horror show. With the video from Dead.com playing from her beloved husband of a year’s email, the two woman stumbled together into nightmares of Torture they never could’ve conceived. As they began witnessing the deaths in horrid orders, Gary managed to never return home. Following a short lived night of drinking wine with her close friend Jen, Ella simpers off to a restless sleep filled with her very own recurring nightmare. Terrified of never conceiving her own baby at the ripe age of twenty seven, her biggest terror was delivering a stillborn baby boy in an isolated hospital room all alone. While Jen battles the demons of drugs and heavy intoxication following her horrific upbringing, it wasn’t until a gang rape seventeen years prior brought her only salvation. Her sixteen year old daughter Beth, who knew little of her mother’s internal suffering. As the video continued to share online and offline, more people found themselves dying the horrific deaths portrayed on the original video, with a clip of themselves only they could see before their deaths. Spared from the nightmares for whatever reason, Ella was powerless to stop the madness as the files continued loading on her laptop at home.
And the black circle of the camera’s eye continued to stare into her, silently recording her death.
This was my introduction to Sam West and I can definitely say that I'm pleasantly suprised with what i've read. I personally really enjoy how all the stories are linked together towards the end when Jen and Ella find Dead.com on her husband's emails. All the ideas in the stories were very creative and new, which I enjoyed, as often in the splatterpunk/extreme horror genre "newer" books and ideas seem to be similar to many other books. I can say that through this book I did actually learn something new however unuseful it might be "Gynophagia: The fetish of a person becoming food for someone else as a fantasy." This start to the book was short and intense, something I've definitely learned to enjoy when reading Exhorror. Overall, I look forward to becoming a bigger fan of Sam West's books as this one outrageously exceeded my expectations:)
I felt that this short story had a bit of a Ringu/Ring vibe to it which was amazing – the sort of viral video which becomes a virus, watch and you die kinda thing. LOVE IT. Especially in an age where people are OBSESSED with TikTok and viral videos!
This book definitely wigged me out and made me feel a little bit uncomfortable – as any good horror should!
Will definitely be on the lookout for more books by this author!
Sam West has been a favored author for some time. But the grammar mistakes just get worse and worse. I can’t believe a published book, one that went through editing and beta readers, has so many jarring mistakes, such as “would of” and “should of” instead of “would/should *have*.” It jars me right out of the story. Sam West you’ve got to get a real editor!
I feel like each one of the stories could have been Stand alone instead of all put into one. I didn’t like the connection or the last few chapters, so much so that I found myself skimming over pages.
Maybe it’s because I’ve read the crazier stories by Sam West before this one but I just didn’t like how it was put together. Seemed off to connect it all together via an email?
Even though Dead dot com was written in 2015, it still somewhat holds up in today’s web-driven world. Only now some of the terrible videos in Dead dot com show up on the Dark Web.
But truth be told, I had I gotten one of the haunting emails from the book I would have watched then had look over my shoulder for my worst nightmare to catch up to me.
Dying in my sleep in my late-80s with enough money to keep my granddaughters grandkids wealthy. A man can dream, right?
This was a very entertaining read. I appreciated the books restraint in places and how slowly, this book of mini stories became it's own twisted big tale. I actually gasped aloud when I figured out what was happening. This was a very enjoyable read and I am definitely picking up some of Sam's other work

Drugs were evil, they rotted away at your very soul until all traces of humanity had been eradicated.
This book was SO good. It disturbed the hell out of me, which is kind of the point with books like these. Sam West is a phenomenal author, and I really enjoyed this book! It made me weary of the internet...
Like the rest of her work it's very well done as you can feel the angst building in each of the stories and most tie into her other stories. Loved the clown section, very crazy!
Nowhere near as long as my normal reviews, but holy sh*t, this book unnerved the crap out of me 😂 It appears to start as an anthology, but these fit into the overarching story. I usually shy away from anything supernatural, but I absolutely adored this book (I am still shivering in my bed ahaha 💀)
Be careful with this one...not for the faint of heart
In all seriousness, choose this one with care, even if you are a Sam West fan. By his own admission, he gave himself nightmares with this story. Dead Dot Com takes several crucial steps beyond what is accepted even in extreme horror, even black cover extreme horror. Mr. West takes us into the realm of the dark web and seems to have found something of himself reflected there even he was not in tune with. This story introduces us to the concept of fiction about real people, and by keeping their true humanity in the forefront of our minds, we as readers are not just vicariously but viscerally inflamed, sickened, literally nauseated and repelled by the brutality, depravity, and limitless capacity of appetite of man. When my son was six years old, he was climbing the loft ladder in the barn and slipped. A long, narrow, jagged chunk of wood slammed into the side of his tiny palm, turned parallel to the bone as he slid desperately down, and emerged from the top of his little hand like a sixth finger. The way I felt when I laid eyes on my screaming son's injury, as if every drop of blood I possessed had turned to ice water, and my stomach had filled with air and relocated somewhere around my heart, is how I felt many times reading this story. As long as you're comfortable with being viscerally disturbed, nauseous, and emotionally unsettled, I highly recommend this selection.
At first, I was a little put off that all of the stories were about violence towards women, but once it all began to come together towards the end, I got it. These stories are pretty violent and gory, so they might not be for everyone, but if you're into that kind of thing, you'll probably be into this. I'll probably read more of this author's work in the future.
