With a little help from her death-seeing boyfriend, Lance Hampton, Hope Murdoch has already defeated fate once. Doing it again—and stopping a serial killer in the making—shouldn’t be too hard…except she hasn’t healed from her last brush with the psychopath, Lance is struggling with his personal demons, and she’s grounded. Tracking down a murderer is not easy when you’re basically under house arrest.
Yet, the seventeen-year-old mind reader isn’t about to let those trifling obstacles slow her down. So what if she has to lie to her parents and sneak out of the house to catch him? She is not the only one in danger.
Once again, Hope is faced with the burden of choosing between saving her own life and the victims starring in Lance’s visions. Getting past her parents’ house alarm is a walk in the dark compared with trying to get a murderer behind bars…or in the ground. With only a few clues to piece together, every path looks like a dead end—literally.
This time, the cost of changing her future may be too much to bear.

Loved this series. It's YA but I promise any adults into paranormal and crime thrillers will also enjoy this book. But make sure you read all 3. Lots of important info you dont want to miss.
Well, damn... That is NOT how I expected this book to end.
Hope is still trying to figure out the identity of the serial killer who haunts her, day and night. But now that her parents know she is in danger, they are taking their job of keeping her safe to the extreme. Unfortunately, that means she is under their constant watchful eyes and losing her freedoms, one by one. Catching a killer is a little hard to do when you're practically locked inside your home.
Lance can't seem to catch a break. Not only do the police suspect that he had a hand in Claire's abduction but Hope's parents aren't quite as grateful to him for saving Hope as everyone else is. Plus, an overzealous high school reporter is hell bent on uncovering the secrets surrounding the murders. And to make matters even worse, an old girlfriend jumps back into the picture, stirring up feelings he'd rather stay buried.
In all, everything is going to hell in a handbasket with a cherry on top!
This book felt much like the first one. There are secrets being kept on both sides of the fence, teenage hormones and angst at every turn, and an elusive killer on the loose. For the first 3/4 of the book, I thought we might be getting somewhere in our quest for catching the killer but the plot really doesn't advance as much as I think it should have by now. It's a bummer but hopefully the next book will give some answers.
The ending really took me by surprise. Sure, I expect people to die when you're faced with a serial killer but I was not prepared for the turn of events that happen. I am still a little heartbroken over it.
In closing... I liked the first book a bit more than this one but that is probably because of the ending. I am looking forward to the next book and hopefully a happy ending. Four suns!
Forewarned was even more terrifying and compelling than Foreshadowed. Not only did Hope and Lance have to figure out who the crazed serial killer was, and in time to stop her murder as well as many others, but they had to deal with being normal teens; with overprotective parents (So refreshing to see this in a YA novel), the self-doubt and heartache that comes with first love, and having to deal with pesky rumors that made the good guy/hero seem like the villain. I have to admit, I missed Lance during the time that Hope was forbidden to see him. It felt like a piece of my heart was missing. Nothing was going to stop Hope from seeing him though, especially after her chance encounter with the perp at One Stop. The clock was ticking, and there was no time to waste. I felt that in this book Hope struggled so much more with her gift. She had to lie to parents, which tore her apart, and she wasn’t able to give the cops everything she knew about the killer for fear that (a) they’d think she was crazy, and (b) her testimony wouldn’t be strong enough to catch and keep the killer behind bars. She also battled with all the choices that were presented to her in her dreams. They were cryptic to say the least, but one thing she knew for certain was that following her instincts was not the way to go. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time while reading this novel. This identity of the killer drove me insane, especially at the moments when Hope was able to connect with his thoughts and read his mind. He was one sick individual. Hope’s desperation, once again, made her reckless, and even though she believed she was making the right choices based on her guide’s warnings, her decisions shaped the outcome of this story. It was a devastating twist that left me in tears and gasping for breath. One thing I’ve learnt from this story is that every choice we make comes with consequences; every decision alters, not only, our future but the future of those around us. This book was dark and sinister. Filled with suspense and heartache, it was a fantastic, spine-chilling thriller that held me in its clutches until the very end.
Forewarned (48fourteen, 2016) picks up seventeen-year-old mind-reader Hope Murdoch’s story within a few weeks of where Book 1 (Foreshadowed) left off. Hope and her death-seeing boyfriend, Lance, have thwarted a serial rapist/murderer and rescued their friend from a horrific fate. Doing so has changed Hope’s future…but this time, her predicted death is even worse.
The mystery of the psychopath's identity drove my curiosity throughout the book as the teens conspire to cipher who he could be. Though Hope and Lance have every intention of continuing to combine their psychic gifts to prevent more kidnappings and deaths, Hope comes to learn that it’s not so simple. Not every death can be avoided. And sometimes, changing one outcome can unintentionally lead to a worse outcome for someone else.
Complicating matters are Hope’s parents, who’ve understandably grounded her and don’t trust Lance, an unhelpful detective, a skeptical school newspaper reporter, the painful return of Lance’s ex-girlfriend, and the fact that even the potential victims whom Hope tries to warn don’t believe her. While the book started out with plenty of laughs from Hope’s trademark sarcasm, it definitely took a turn for the darker and creepier, until twisting into an unexpected ending that tore my heart out.
Spooky, supernatural, and suspenseful, this is an excellent sequel to Foreshadowed.
This is the second book in the Near Death series, and it was definitely a page turner. I read it pretty quickly and didn't want to put it down. That being said, I do think I liked the 1st book better. I will definitely be reading the next one, because I need to know how this story ends! This book was basically more of the same, but with strict parents laying down the rules, only to have them all ignored and broken, thrown into the mix. You know typical angsty YA book stuff, but with lots of supernatural drama.
***2016 Reading Challenge - A book that is guaranteed to bring you joy*** This book had several things going for it: The 1st book, Foreshadowed, was great; it is set in a place I am familiar with; it is written by an emerging author. All things I love. Sadly, I felt this book was all plot advancement but no heart. And too much teen angst. I might like these characters less now than when I started book 2.

I enjoyed Forewarned! It was a good follow-up to the first book. The characters and story definitely keep you entertained. The author has a fun writing style that keeps you tuned in and before you know it, you are at the end! I am excited to see how everything turns out in book three!
