The spring Anselm turns sixteen, the Black Death sweeps across England. But for the monks of St. Benedict's, where Anselm is an oblate, the Black Death isn't just a life-threatening plague. It's an undead nightmare. Now Anselm and his friend Tom have to save their families and rid the countryside of zombies.
Books have always been central to my life, and publishing my own book has been my greatest dream. I feel awed and honored that other people will be reading what I wrote.
Brother Cadfael meets The Walking Dead! While the book takes place in and around an English monastery in 1349, this movie was appropriate as a Christmas read. The oblate, Anselm is a young teenager who is living at St. Benedict's monastery when the plague breaks out. Within a few hours, the brothers realize that this is no ordinary plague that is ravaging the island. Besides the excitement of the plot (that comes in wave after wave after wave) what I loved about this book was HOW the medieval mind dealt with this permutation of the plague. Deliciously frightening, beautiful prose, empathetic characters, romance, heroic deeds, and medieval reverence for the sacred, every chapter pulsates with breathtaking twists and turns.
