Twisted Timber

Rate this book
Based on a true story, Twisted Timber is an emotionally gripping tale. It is set in Marietta, Georgia in 1954 at the cusp of a new civil rights movement. The reader is further transported back in time to war-torn Germany during the devastation of World War II. In 1954, Hannah is a young adult searching for answers. She came to America with stars in her eyes. No more war. No more injustice. No more Hitler, the man who sat with her and spoke to her gently. Although her lifelong physical disability was obvious, she was not going to let it impede her chances at a new life. With the new, warm, undemanding Southern culture contrasting her own, Hannah finds herself confused about her own identity. To complicate matters, she is confronted with something that causes her memories to enslave her mind with devastating flashbacks of war. Hannah’s head is turned further in the direction of an art gallery owner who possesses an item which will send Hannah on a quest to find a long lost royal ancestor who may have the answers she is seeking. Now including an excerpt of Livin' in High Cotton, a clean, historical romance novel by Jennifer Youngblood and Sandra Poole.

Proud to be a Cheesehead. I was born and raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. If you are able to withstand the frigid winter air, Wisconsin has some of the most down to earth, honest people around. I passed a very happy childhood there, climbing trees, and running along the river.

Proud to be a McEachern Indian. At fifteen, we moved to a suburb of Atlanta, Georgia. The warm, Southern culture touched my heart.

Proud to be a Cougar. I attended Brigham Young University, where I graduated with a BS in Human Development.

Proud to be a Cuate. I spent a year and a half in Guatemala as a Christian missionary, spreading the message of hope and love. The Guatemalan people are some of the kindest people you will meet.

Proud to be a Human Resource Professional. I was employed for many years in the field of Human Resources.

Proud to be a Wife and Mother. And I thought that Human Resources was a demanding career. Nothing has been more difficult or more rewarding than being a wife and mother. My happiness is centered in the happiness of my family.

Proud to be an Author. Writing has been a source of great joy in my life. I hope to share with my readers a piece of myself in every novel. I hope to uplift and entertain others through my written word.

Unique perspective

This book provided a unique perspective of WWII, one that I haven’t often encountered. It is about a girl and her family, living in Nazi Germany during the war. How they, as citizens, had to flee for safety many times. It was heart breaking and raw, told in the form of flashbacks as the main character adjusts to life in Georgia after the war. New jobs, new beaus, and coming to terms with everything that happened in her past to make her who she is. I really enjoyed it.

The writing is awful. Almost every sentence I read, I was editing in my mind. I'm a middle school math teacher. But as an avid reader I know what good writing is. I have middle school students who could write better than this. I wanted to like the story. I kept reading and reading, trying to like it. But the writing was so horrible I had to quit reading. It is a rare thing for me to not finish a book. Luckily this was a free download. But don't bother.
