I’m Kayla Martin... I was once sweet and innocent, saw the world bright with colour, but now all I see is black and white. He not only ripped my innocence away from me, tortured me and made my life a living hell, but he stole the very soul that made me who I am. I’m a shell of the girl I once knew. But it’s all about to change. I’m ready to face my fear. And that’s going right back to the very place all this started. Grayson High. I’ve had to stay back a year to re-take my exams, back to the halls where students whispered, bullied, and taunted me. It’s been four years and I’m still trying to perfect the art of faking. It’s easy most of the time. My parents never really cared about me; they just saw the fake smile and assumed everything was fabulous, until he waltzes back into my life. Myles freaking Carter. My childhood crush. And he sees straight past my fake smiles to the broken girl inside. But what happens when he finds out about the real me...the broken, scared, weak girl? My biggest fear is on the verge of becoming discovered because he becomes my rock. I'm petrified that he'll find out what I've been hiding from everyone. Will he be able to look me in the eye once he finds out my secret?
Ok so I feel like now I have given myself enough time to get over this book to be able to write my review.
Like her other books before this I was so excited to get stuck in, Lisa didn't disappoint, if I am being honest I wasn't as excited to read Myles as I have been about other books but that was because I didn't really see from the other Carter books what Myles could offer, Kaylas story was what gripped me and I wasn't expecting it to take the turn it did.
Let me just start by saying that although Myles isn't the most athletic of his brothers and is more the brains of the family don't let it deter you, when it comes to Kayla this dude is truly alpha :D He loves Kayla deeply and her past does not effect his opinion or feelings towards her, nore that of his sexy brothers.
Kayla... Although this girl is going through constant hell she still puts on a brave face everyday for the sake of others. She is honestly selfless and I was really rooting for her, when she finds out the news about her best friend Charlie she puts all her personal problems aside and is there for her no matter what! As strong as she is she leans on Myles and who wouldn't after finding out such devastating news.
Their relationship blossomed within this book and it really is a true love story, it was nice to see appearances from Malik, Harlow, Mason and Denny not to mention the ever intriguing Maverick and the loveable rogue that is Max Carter. We also get introduced to other characters which after reading the synopsis of Max's book looks like we will be seeing more from.
This book should seriously come with a 'tissues at the ready warning' honestly no matter how hard I tried not to cry, I balled like a baby to the point a hug from the hubby was needed!!
I felt that the tough subjects that were discussed in this book were done so sensitively and that help when it came to reading the more hard hitting parts.
Well done again to Lisa Helen Gray for another awesome read, roll on Max's release day!!! :D
Dios mío cómo he llorado, COMO HE LLORADO 😭.
Myles has been my favorite so far.. not the story, but the character... The story was actually a hard one for me..I knew Kayla was gonna be a hard one, it was obvious that she was not only suffering from when she got raped by Davis, but we all knew she was being abused as well.... Did we ever find out what happened to her mother? I know she got arrested but anything else? EVERYONE who reads my reviews knows how I am about karmatic justice and nothing ruines a book for me like the bad guy getting away with being the bad guy... So, it's buggin me that I don't know what happened with Kayla's mom.... Did I just miss it somewhere?
Other than that though, Myles, so sweet and gentle and patient, he's everything that Kayla needs, even in the beginning when it was hard to get passed Kayla's hang ups, he was just so patient and sweet with her, wanting to protect her. I liked that. Seems that's the thing with these boys, they're possessive and protective. And I felt so bad for Kayla, I admired what she and Myles wanted to do, to help children oh and another thing that bothered me was the whole baby talk when she met the little boy and girl, .... babies don't just throw in random letters to say words wrong, it sounded ridiculous....
Charlie... I was gutted about Charlie, that whole part had me ugly crying, especially reading the words to flashlight by jessie j. I dunno why I'd never really listened to the words before but it was heartbreaking. There were parts about the heart rejection and girls night in where I was like reeally? This is your doctored opinion lol but whatever, I enjoyed the majority of the story anyway and I really loved Myles, I can't wait to read Max and Mavericks story! I have a feeling there is a lot more to both of them than meets the eye.
There's always some reason To feel not good enough, And it's hard, at the end of the day.
as always lisas book don't deserve any think less than 5 star would be more if I could. As im a close friend of hers I get to see these books through the stages of being wrote and this book has drove me mad I think I've nagged her that much for it as she sent me half but oh my god love Myles he is so freaking sweet he is the quieter of the ones I think but u see the side of him in this book and he is a darling Kayla has been through so much in her life and for them to find each other and how they are is so cute love them I've been swore to secrecy so I cant put any more on here about this book even though I could rite all day about it this book is so good and recommend u reading it after Malik and masons book :-) I WANT MORE
When Kayla Martin found out the boy who had attacked her had victimized another, she decided to go to the police. Kayla returns to the place it all began and finds the friends she left behind are still there and wanting to be by her side.
Myles Carter was always infatuated with Kayla Martin but when she left, it tore him apart. Myles sees Kayla coming back as a second chance. Myles knows he has to take everything slowly, but Kayla is still holding secrets and he cannot protect her if she wont let him in.
More than a few tears shed reading this book. I thought Kayla was a empowering heroine who has not caught a fair break in life. Myles I liked, he is so protective of Kayla even from his own family. Max is a delight in this story, he takes a personality twist I did not see coming.
Ok, i am a gluton for any "hawt brothers" series and when i started these i wasnt that stunned and i was like ok, maybe book two would be better...it wasnt...then the little devil on my shoulder kept whispering "you ll never find the right brother...haha"...so i flipped him off and dug into Myles...the third brother out of 5.
And blime me, i was RIGHT!!! Myles was everything i needed, obviously...but it wasnt just the right bro, it was the plot as well!
This time the pace was slower which suited me nicely...and even if the story dwelled on difficult subject of abuse and death...it also brought comfort and strength...
And it s mostly thanks to Myles...the intellectual, thoughtful, attentive, persistant, gentle yet passionate...protective and determined...just in right dose of everything, this time everything just sat tight and right for me!
Holy fuck balls how can you leave it like that !?! I wanna know more about max like yesterday !!
So moving on ... I gave it a 4* because of the spelling mistakes :/ that was my only problem with it. There was more than the odd one.. But the story line was amazing and well written, she overcome so much in this book grief, abuse, rape - wow this is one emotional book but I really did enjoy it even when I was tearing up lol
This girl life has been so hard! She was so strong to have lived through all that mental abuse, bullying and the rape I can’t even understand have she didn’t break down more often. The strength that took must have been Very hard especially hiding it from her dad.
We had been introduced to Kayla in the first book but was only in passing or in a conversation about the last girl, in the second book we got to see her come forward and helping them but him behind bars. Now we get her story and it didn’t disappoint, she only grew stronger and stronger with Myles help but also by standing alone one her two feet.
The thing that made me jump of joy opening up this book was hearing her dad hade left her horrible mother. Hearing how she had dismissed her daughter in the first book all I could think was and how about her dad was he as stupid and horrible as well and now I got me answer. His head might have been up in the clouds but he didn’t know not even about the beatings.
I loved everything about this book it was hard not wanting to yell at her sometimes” tell someone what your mother is doing to you” but I could understand why. But still I wanted to scream sometimes.
I liked this better than book two, but not as much as I enjoyed book one. Maybe because I wasn’t in the mood for an emotional story. Or maybe just because I wanted more actual romance between Kayla and Myles.
While I do love the Carter brothers and their girls, we barely got any romance between our two main characters. It was mostly either spent with the group or in their own minds. Basically, I wanted more.
This is the 3rd book in the Carter Brother series and should be read in order as the stories are interconnected.
Kayla Martin is the girl everyone talks about. Her story isn’t like most and no one wants to be her. Her first stop at Grayson High was a nightmare for her; the bullying, whispers and taunts. Now that she’s back to help out another girl who suffered as she had. The good thing about being back is Myles Carter but that is also a bad thing as she was the one she couldn’t hide from. He was there for her and never once treated her the way the others did but she is hiding a secret from him. When her secret is out will Myles still want to be her friend or will this be the final straw pushing them apart forever?
I was given this book by the author in exchange for an honest review.
Kayla has suffered the worst kind of bullying in her life and survived it. She even help out Harlow, Myles brother Malik’s girlfriend when the bullies at Grayson went after her. Now that she is back at her old school and hanging out with Myles again. She loved spending time with him before and after everything that happened but having a secret that she has, she’s afraid that things would be the same as it was before.
Myles Carter has had a hard life. The one girl he ever felt anything for was Kayla Martin. She is the one who got away, the one that understands him. He knows that they’re young but with their past has them feeling connected in ways no one else has. Myles is the second young of the Carters boys but he’s very much like his older brother’s when it comes to protecting the ones he cares about.
This is the third book in the Carter Brother series and Myles has become my second favourite Carter brother. Lisa has written another amazing hit. Kayla and Myles story is both sweet and loving but gut wrenching at the same time. This things that Kayla went through and how Myles never saw anything but the beautiful woman Kayla was drew me in and had me falling for Myles. Yes, he may be a teenage boy but the life he had, has made him grow up too fast thus giving him the compassion that most don’t have at his age. Myles is usually the smart, quiet, passionate young man. Kayla started out as a wall flower who got the unfortunate attention of a bully. Myles was there for Kayla but when things got to be too much she left. Now that she is back and helped out Harlow, Myles brother Malik’s girlfriend who went through some of the same bullying Kayla went through. Kayla came back hiding a secret from Myles and was afraid he’d look at her differently if he ever found. What she never counted on was the Carter brothers. They are a family unit who protects the ones they care about. The attraction between Myles and Kayla starts as a simmer until it explodes leaving you breathless. Myles has the passion for Kayla like his brother Malik does for Harlow which you can’t help but be glued to your book when these two are together. Myles is a highly charged passionate love story with secrets waiting to be revealed and two characters you can’t help but fall for. You don’t want to miss getting to Myles Carter!!
I received a ARC in exchange for a honest review. 5* read. First ill start by saying I LOVE this series and I LOVE this author so I was really lucky to get a arc for this one. I would actually give this more then the 5 stars if I could. I actually wasn't sure if id like Myles as much as the other brothers as he's always come across as more quiet and too good for my bad boy side that I love. I was so wrong and after this book he may actually be my favourite. The way this a author wrote such a beautiful story of Myles and Kayla around such a hard topic blew me mind. It was heartbreaking in places yet so sweet and I've been rooting for these two since they first met in earlier books. the way Myles was with Kayla because of everything she'd been through was so sweet and beautiful I was ugly crying a good few times throughout. There was a few spelling mistakes but i haven't marked down for this as I know how much of a game this author had on with having to change editors and getting it released on time, and the mistakes don't spoil this story at all so it didn't bother me. As for the next book I can't wait, especially when its Max's turn, boy I can not wait to read this dirty talking bad boys story. Well done Lisa on another amazing book, cant wait for the next.
the Carter brothers are back with a bang and omg the books get better and Better. Malik will always be my favourite brother but I have to say this book was wow!
normally any book that has a hint of sadness or that I'm going to ball my eyes out reading I avoid like the plague, nothing worse than an ugly cry. I didn't know this book was going to be so emotionally charged but even if I did I would still have read it. I love the Carter brothers, there are moments when your laughing so hard but then there is heartbreak and so such sadness you are crying ugly sad tears that no matter what you think about you can't stop.
I won't give spoilers but the last part of the book you will need tissues I suggest a roll of tissues! it's so heart breaking yet at the same time it's beautiful there's a song that is sung and I had to you tube it while I read and scene and I must say the author did such a good job with the writing that I felt like Kayla all the emotions she must have been going through. I will never forget this book.
I am a massive fan of this author I've read all her books and even if they are ugly crys I will continue to do so, a very talented writer and look forward to Evan, max and maverick. well done Mrs Gray
Merged review:
Omg emotional rollercoaster

When we got offered the chance to review Malik, book one in this series, I was unsure of how it would be because high school kids are not my thing typically but I gave it a try. And I am so glad I did because I ended up loving that book. This author has a way of pulling you in from the first page, playing with your emotions, tearing you apart, then slowly piecing you back together. I am so glad I took a chance and found her, because she is has been added as a go-to for sure in this series.
I loved this book. Oh Myles, yeah get ready to swoon and fall completely, totally in love. This book picks up where book two left off and dives right back into the Carter family and the swoonworthy boys who made it up. This book has it all.. action, suspense, angst, steam, intense moments, and one alpha male who will do anything he has to, to keep the girl he loves safe and prove to her that she is worth it all. This author also threw in a few twists and turns to keep us on the edge of our seats.
This is Myles and Kayla's story. Kayla is utterly and completely broken. She endured some trauma that sent her away so she could recover and heal. She has been through hell and back but now she is back and ready for school.... well kind of.... yeah not really but she is strong and is going to prove she can do it. But Kayla still has secrets and lives in daily hell. She needs to break free. She needs to see the light. And only one guy can do that for her... the one that makes her heart beat a little faster.
Enter Myles... the sweet and quiet Carter brother who has taken a shine to Kayla. He wants to keep her safe. He wants to know all of her secrets. He wants her heart and he won't stop until he has it all. He is going to help Kayla work out her demons. He is going to show her the upside to life. He is going to prove to her she is not dirty and damaged. He is going to show her what true love and affection is. It is not going to be easy but Kayla is worth it. And what a Carter wants, they get.
So far this one is my favorite! Hilarious, fun, romantic, intense! I was laughing so much in this book. Max is a winner! Honestly cannot wait for his book!
"I had people stare at me the first week or so, but it died down after that. I think the fact that whenever Max would catch someone staring, he'd walk right up to them and stare right in their face for a good five minutes." "He didn't?" she laughs loudly, rolling to her side. "He freaking did. One girl turned bright red, trying to get away from him, but he just followed her, getting in her face."
Myles as I knew was amazing! Unlike his brothers he doesn't sleep around and would've been a virgin if he didn't get drunk over a what happened to Kayla one night. Kayla was both a funny kick ass main girl and annoying. Annoying in the sense that she never spoke up about what was going on with her Mum. Like UGH! You have an army of brothers willing to fight the world for you and you don't let them. Come on girl. With her past, she was still dealing with the aftermath but everyday fighting her demons. And what better way to overcome it then to go to the place where it all happened. Her old high school. Thank God she had twin brothers looking out for her. The theme park chapters were SO FUNNY! I was in hysterics throughout the whole thing. Max...oh man he is one hell of a character! Charming yet so boyish. When he started singing "Love is an open door" from Frozen, the song being on his phone...Oh My God! How he'd scream on every ride and hold onto the person next to him with a death grip. How he deserted his family when they went into the Haunted House attraction, pushing anyone out of his way and running for his life. Oh my life I was dying. I'm so excited for the next two brothers books! Max and Maverick!!!! Mav was amazing in this book! We don't get much on who he is, what he likes. Just that he's the oldest and looks out for his brothers and their girls. He treated Kayla like his little sister. So protective. And hot. CANT WAIT!
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review
Myles is the third book in the Carter Brothers series. Let me start off by saying that I really love this author and have loved all of her previous books. I will admit that Myles story wasn't my favorite. I was so excited for Myles after reading what his story was about initially. After reading the story, I thought the story itself was just OK.
What I needed out of the story: I was really hoping for something different instead of the girl meets guy, girl in distress and needs saving bit. I just kept thinking that this story would have been so much better for me if I could fall in love with the main characters. I did like them don't get me wrong but I couldn't get past that to actually fall head over heels in love with them.
My favorite scene was with Charlie. Charlie broke my heart and this was the part of the story that gutted me the most. I shed a few tears and I honestly felt it for Kayla during this time. Myles was the tamest of his brothers so far. I liked that he was so patient and kind towards Kayla and her situation.
Overall, I liked the story. The pace of the story for me was a little slow. I think if Lisa had wrote more scenes of what Kayla actually went through this may have turned the story around for me. Again, I feel horrible for not liking this one as much as the others. I do believe the author is very talented. I would like to see the author with a story were the heroine doesn't need rescuing. Sorry!!
I received a copy of Myles by Lisa Helen Gray in exchange for an honest review. I completely adore this book and all of Lisa Helens Gray's writing. If you are a fan of L.A. Casey and Aurora Rose Reynolds then you will simply love This wonderful series. This book was so emotional that you can physically feel the pain and heartbreak Kayla has been through. Her story is shattering to the reader but the beauty and grace with which Kayla handles everything is breathtaking. Myles is the sweetest hero of a book i have ever read. He is the most perfect combination of sexy and smart that i suggest placing a bucket next to your kindle in order to catch the drool you will undoubtedly produce when reading about Myles.
Kayla and Myles both grow so much throughout this book and you can practically see them become adults. Their relationship also develops and there were some scenes between them where i wanted to bawl like a baby because they are so beautiful together. I can never find it within myself to fault a Lisa Helen Gray book. However, I do hate that I have to wait to read Max because the bad boy of the Carter brothers looks like he's going to have his work cut out for him in the next book.
I strongly recommend this enchanting and enticing book that will give you a rollercoaster of emotions and leave you begging for more.
I was telling my 15 year-old son about this book, about how it was #3 in a series and numbers 1 and 2 were really poorly written. I gave him examples of some of the ridiculous things that happened in "Myles", such as when Charlie breaks the news to her friend Kayla that her body is rejecting her heart transplant and that she probably won't survive. Kayla suggests they sit down and Google it to see what Charlie's options are. Or when Kayla tells Myles about Charlie's failing heart and wonders what she can do to help. He suggests a girls night out and when that is shot down, a girls night in. After telling my son about those two scenes he asked me why I was even reading book 3 if the first two were just as bad and it got me thinking, why indeed???? Guess I'm done with the Carter Brothers!
This book and story line are not for the faint of hearts but can I just say it is one of the best books I have read! I think that Ms. Gray not only wrote an amazing story with a deep plot and characters that are extremely developed but she also tackled some extremely dark and difficult topics with grace. Plus we get to see even more into the Carter Brothers and their situation and how amazing they are as a family. I can't imagine anyone going through what Kayla does in the story and I hope that if anyone is going through these same situations in real life and reads this story they are able to gather strength and courage in their own situation. I CAN NOT wait for the next book and so far this new series has become one of my top favorites!
I've read all three of the books, I can't wait for the next book! I can't believe a school would allow so much bullying, acting like it's not happening. One boy and evil boy took something from Kayla that can't be returned, and her crazy mother blamed her. After leaving the school and having the courage to come back and face what had happened to her, she helped put this horrible boy in jail! You would think that her life could be put back together, but no her crazy mother wouldn't let that happen, she continued to torture her! The carter boys are amazing group of boys, they are loyal and would do anything for each other. Must read! Read in order!!! Please hurry, I can't wait to read the next book!!!
I feel bad for rating this so low, and parts were sweet but kayla just got on my nerves! she was so weak!! I understand she's been though a trauma and about her mom but for me! I was like Ahhh! ! your mom is abusing you and what do you do?!! hide it from your dad you live with WTF!!! Some of it was so unbelievable for me and her reactions were to stupid. I don't like weak heroines. I prefer women that are survivors and take the preverbial bull by the horns. not constantly crying at very turn and being a victim!
I might be being harsh never having been in this situation myself but for me as a reader. This book just didn't work.
This continues the series of Carter brother stories extremely well. I loved the previous books, and I loved this one as well.
Not only do we get Kayla and Myles' story, we also manage to catch up with the other characters we met in previous books - Harlow, Malik, Mason, Denny, Maverick and Max.
Kayla is trying desperately to put her past behind her, but forces combine to ensure it won't be an easy journey for her.
This is quite a sad story and you will need tissues, but the issues are dealt with extremely well by the author.
Wow another awesome book in the series, I loved myles so much, he was such a sweetheart. I loved kayla so much to, what a strong girl, what she went through wow such a emotional roller coaster, especially the part with Charlie I cried so much. My favourite part of the book had to be the theme park, omg I was cracking up laughing so much, Max is my favourite character, he is seriously funny and I'm super excited about his book.
Enjoyed this book, its an easy flowing read with good characters, its got ups and downs and real emotional roller-coaster of situations. I gave it 4 stars because of the ending, the epilogue just didn't do it for me, that should have been the ending of the book, and then write an epilogue for a year or so further down the line not a few weeks later. Their story felt unfinished to me,
You know I love these boys, these books just keep getting better. Honestly you had me laughing, crying and ready to hit someone. Well done Lisa, I can't wait for the rest of the Carters xxx
Absolutely blown away by this story. I'm not good at writing reviews, I never really know what to say. But all I can say is, that you won't be disappointed if you read this book. It's a great series to get stuck into.
