In the world on the other side of Niraikanai, Shaolan is the only one who sees things that the others cannot see. He learns that he is a "Yuta" who has the divine powers of the "Seji". After a serious injury, he is advised by Kujaku to make his way to the "Utaki" as soon as possible. Shaolan uses one of the magic implements given to him by Watanuki, allowing the group to reach the "Utaki". But what will she expect there? The final volume!
CLAMP originally began in 1989 as a twelve-member dōjinshi circle, but by 1990, the circle had diminished from twelve to seven. Of the remaining seven, Tamayo Akiyama, Sei Nanao, and Leeza Sei left the group during the production of the RG Veda manga. Other former members of CLAMP also included Soushi Hishika, O-Kyon, Kazue Nakamori, Yuzuru Inoue and Shinya Ōmi. Currently, there are four members in the group.
In 2004, CLAMP's 15th anniversary as a mangaka group, the members changed their names from Nanase Ohkawa, Mokona Apapa, Mick Nekoi, and Satsuki Igarashi to Ageha Ohkawa, Mokona, Tsubaki Nekoi and Satsuki Igarashi (her name is pronounced the same, but written with different characters) respectively. The August 2004 issue of Newtype USA, a magazine specializing in events of the anime and manga subcultures, reported that the members of CLAMP simply wanted to try out new names. In a later interview with Ohkawa, it was revealed that initially Mokona wanted to drop her surname because it sounded too immature for her liking, while Nekoi disliked people commenting that her name was the same as Mick Jagger's. Ohkawa and Igarashi, wanting to go with the flow of Nekoi's and Mokona's name changes, changed their names as well.
In 2006, they made their first USA public debut at Anime Expo in Anaheim, California. They were well received at the convention, with 6,000 fans in attendance at their panel.
I think CLAMP should stick to making three volume long stories/sequels. Clearly that's the only thing they're capable of these days. The chances of them dropping CCS again are only 50/50 tho, cause it seems like that series is the only one they truly love ... Me? Bitter? Clutching my X-1999 and Drug & Drop manga? NEVER!
Okay, I got sidetracked for a moment there. This last volume fit seamlessly into the two that came before: The focus was on Shaolan and his inner turmoil. He had some awfully hard decisions to make and we got a good view into his heart and desires - I for one was genuinly surprised to see that the person he wanted to see the most wasn't whom I expected.
The art style was great. Still not my favorite CLAMP style overall, but the overall noodleness and the thick outlines look more balanced now than they did at the start of TRC.
I enjoyed reading this sort-of-sequel, but with a heavy heart, I'm giving this "only" three stars (it's not a bad rating), because while I do love Shaolan a lot, I was really disappointed that Kurogane and Fai were not even secondary characters, but almost side characters in this volume. They basically didn't do anything but look worried for Shaolan and be a bit cute in the end. It's possible that CLAMP originally planned to make an arc for each of the three (+ maybe Mokona?), but since they're suffering from a bad case of "Oh, shiny!", I'm less forgiving in this case.
Also have to admit that the ghost girl character got really annoying in the end and they could have held back a teeny tiny bit with the "OMG Shaolan is so STRONG!".
All in all I don't regretting buying this story arc, but I don't know how often I'll re-read it.
Puesssss vaya.
This volume and the 3-books series as a whole was very unsatisfying, if it wasn’t for the artwork and the characters I enjoyed from the previous series I would’ve given this a lower rating overall.
Mannaggia a voi.
The vagueness of the "prophecy" or whatever and the "choice" eventually got so annoying. Like this is the final book you can be clear. It made it seem like the authors didn't know what to do so instead hand-waved the whole thing. Anyway this series was bad. If they release any more I won't read them. The original was so good and these are so mid.
How does CLAMP manage to kill me inside over and over again? They are so good at giving a decent solution, satisfying ending, and still have it unfair and heartbreaking at the same time.
Syaoran is a bigger man than anyone else could dream to be. He is willing to help people he doesn't know or care about, even sacrifice his greatest wish. I am a selfish human being, I would have been like: "Nope! Find your own way, randoms. I'm not going to kill the very person I've been looking for and care about more than you guys whom I've only just met. How dare you ask me to kill my clone/father in order for you guys to selfishly get a new chance at life. You've lived your lives, that's enough. Good day, kind sirs and madams."

I was a bit disappointed with the end of this series. It felt rushed, and honestly, so much of it was just seriously confusing. I did enjoy seeing Kurogane and Fai being super protective, and I thought that the idea of Syaoran
having to fight Syaoran to bring the dead back to life
was very interesting, but... It wasn't quite enough to save it for me.
Bless Watanuki, though. He was the whole reason I read this mess.
Stuff happened, not quite followed it as it's been a while since I read the previous volumes and xxxHolic: Rei, but I'll reread it again some time and I'm sure it will all make more sense.
More importantly? Fai with his hair down. He's gorgeous. Ha!
I really enjoyed the character development and conflict Syaoran went through in this volume. Syaoran has always been my favorite CLAMP character because he's the classic hero: noble, honest, brave, and kind. In some parts he's a little unbelievable in his heroism, but that's what's made him so endearing. He's Syaoran the Hero and no one can beat him! But...I really liked how CLAMP addressed how tired Syaoran is. He's on a quest to not only find a way to be with Sakura and fix the paradox, but also to save the clones. And he's tired of fighting. And the fact that the focus went on him and this desire of his, then thrusting him back into the hero-saves-the-day role and watching him struggle with it was really refreshing. My particularly favorite moment was when he was in the Utaki with clone!Syaoran and he finds out he has to not only fight him, but kill him, and that sends him over the edge. As badass as Syaoran can be, he's ultimately a pacifist and asking him to make this huge sacrifice for the greater good really wears on him and tests him. I loved the raw grief and anger and frustration he showed, since Syaoran is NEVER these things. He's always optimistic and puts on a smile for everyone else and is known to shoulder the burden and carry on. It definitely made him more believable as a hero to show the toll being the hero really takes on him and the sacrifice that he has to make. Definitely one of my favorites Tsubasa moments out of this series and Reservoir Chronicle put together.
I'm really sad that the World Chronicle series ends with this book. It definitely doesn't seem like the story is over--far from it, actually. There's still so much to do and Syaoran is JUST NOW really getting to develop as a character! For it to end here is tragic. I definitely need more from this series! I'm wondering if it got cancelled because there wasn't enough interest in it, or if CLAMP just intended to write these three manga volumes and be done with Tsubasa forever. Let's hope not!

I'm going to miss this series! Props to CLAMP for holding my attention on the journeys this group went on, the pain they trekked through, the art having its distinct pop (likely because different team members worked on it vs. xxxHolic), and the emotional parallels and reveals sprinkled throughout. There are aspects to their lore that could have had more of a moment (where did the elemental spirits from the beginning go?), yet I was still here for this side trip. Syaoran felt like he got appropriate closure from the end of the initial series. Sure, Fai and Kurogane didn't have as much to do in the grand scheme of the plot, but their respect for the lead and how they've come together as a group was still clear enough.
Don't mind me scribbling my Fai x Kurogane fanfic in the next few months in my journal LOL.
There are a few things I'm disappointed in. The first one being that there's no more Tsubasa and that's heartbreaking. The next is the misprint on the back of the book that says Watanuki and Fai are rejected by the tree instead of Kurogane. Lastly I just think that this storyline would have been better if it had been stretched out through more mangas. It had an interesting story concept but only being able to have three mangas made it feel a little rushed. I wanted to see more sides of how the group acted now that their new journey had begun and Sakura was no longer with them along with their new personalities after all the trials and tribulations of the original run. Maybe one day we'll be lucky enough to get another adventure from clamp.
Pulling those heartstrings as usual, CLAMP! Shoaran is going to need some serious therapy after all this is said and done, lol.
I really liked how they did this volume, though there were elements of the plot that I didn't quite get. It's possible that those elements would be explained in later volumes, but considering CLAMP hasn't written those yet, I've no idea, and so a 4-star rating this will be. The connections to xxxHolic Rei continue to be satisfying and help explain that series as well! As usual, beautiful and creative as we've come to expect from CLAMP.
I really, really hope they finish this. I guess we can only wait and see!
Tsubasa Chronicles have amazing themes. You could discuss them all day.
Perspective. Destiny. Choice. Friendship. Justice. Hardship. Team work. Loyalty.
So many good things to love about this story. But then there's sacrifice. So much sacrifice to do what's right. Who decides what's right and for who? And the twist. Count on Tsubasa to have a twist that tears you in two 😅
I absolute love this series and will continue to read watch all Tsubasa reservoir chronicle works. But I am desperate to see everyone happy and together. Please make it happen!

Not as great as the first series, in my opinion, but I'm still really glad I had the chance to read this. I definitely get the feeling there will be more to this universe, but I feel like I have to read other series like XXX Holic Rei or something like that (which kind of sucks, because I didn't really like XXX Holic that much, but what can you do?)
I want to know what Fai's third favor was. Don't tease me like that.
I will always love this world and story. There’s a lot of sadness but also a lot of pure love. These characters are part of me. Thank you so much for the opportunity of sharing a little more time with them.
Lho? Udah? Gitu aja? Kukira Syaoran bakal ketemu Sakura. Lah dia malah ketemu kloning Syaoran lagi hanya untuk membunuhnya. Terus si Utaki itu maksudnya apa kok ngingkari perjanjian? Jahat banget. Uuuuh. Ga tahu deh.
This blew me away. I'm actually rather sad to have finished it. The artwork and the story were enthralling and it kept me hooked from the first page right to the end!
