She finally has a man inside her.
Just not the way she imagined.

Hailey loves to read.

Who doesn’t?

But, when she gets her new Kindle it includes more than a reduced price in exchange for a few ads.

It arrived pre-loaded with a 240-year-old enforcer from another dimension.

Now, he’s possessing her .

Not only are his wants and needs beginning to impact her own, the arrogant bastard won’t shut up.

Can Hailey find a way to return her infuriating cohabitant to his own body, or be forced to listen to the non-stop banter in her head forever?

Borrowed magic. The gift that keeps on giving.

Hailey used to be an average, everyday human.

Boring, in fact.

After being possessed by Sebastian, a magically inclined enforcer from the parallel dimension, Coursodon, her life took a decidedly less mundane turn.

Besides coming to grips with the existence of supernatural beings, she risked her life helping Sebastian, and her heart falling for his protégé, Alex.

Now, Hailey has to deal with the bit of arcane power that Sebastian left behind when he returned to his own body and try to stay out of the crossfire when an unknown assailant seeks revenge against Alex.

In the future, no one leaves finding their soul mate to chance.

Scientist by day, paranormal romance-urban fantasy author by night, M.L. Ryan has many stories rolling around in her head, and she finally decided to write some of them. She prefers literature that isn't saddled with excruciating symbolism, ponderous dialogue or worldly implications. She also doesn't like plots so reliant on love at first sight that it makes her feel like her head might implode. She lives in Tucson, Arizona with her husband and teenage son, four cats, two Curly Coated Retrievers and an adopted desert tortoise.

Great premise! Not quite a genie in a bottle, but a spirit in my Kindle sounds intriguing. How did he get there? There's a story worth reading. How will he get out of her Kindle and reunited with his body? Another story, there.

The heroine's job milking chinchillas (for gourmet cheese): had I not read that a UK company sells ice cream made of human breast milk, I'd have tossed the book on the spot. As it is, the chinchilla thing sounds so far fetched, I almost wish it hadn't been in this novel. Then again, some things are so unbelievable, they could only have happened in real life, or no author would have thought of it. (Corollary: some scenes are so surreal, they could only have come from the author's REM-sleep dreams. Time after time, authors have told me I guessed right on that.)

I wanted to review this for Perihelion Science Fiction ezine, but the science lurched off into the realm of fantasy, and Perihelion is devoted to *hard science fiction* with no YA, no sorcery.

The story is fun and engaging. Fans of women's fiction, fantasy, and paranormal should appreciate it. Hard-core science fiction fans, not so much.
