Two centuries ago, John Wesley famously composed 'Rules of a Helper' for pastors of his time who would follow in his ministry footsteps. To this day, much wisdom is still gleaned from his leadership principles. In Lead Like Wesley , author Mark Gorveatte devotedly unpacks the heart of each rule, revealing how the timeless truths should no less inform and direct all good Christian leadership in this day and age. Each chapter is dedicated to one rule, is supported by a key theme with its scriptural context, and is thoughtfully considered in the light of contemporary research, making a compelling case for character-based leadership.
A truly exceptional book on leadership. The general principles are no different from other books on leadership, but Mark Gorveatte's appropriation of John Wesley's life as a case Study separates this book from all the rest in the leadership genre. Simply a must read for any leader who is touched by Wesley's influence today!
Lead Like Wesley: Help for Today's Ministry Servants ~ Mark Gorveatte
⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4/5
First book of the new year done. This was a wonderful book of how John Wesley led and principals we can use to help improve our leading.
I feel many will not read this because they think it's just for leaders, those like pastors and elders. This leadership is for every believer, we are all to take responsibility and lead in some capacity.
The focus on all John Wesley's leading was to fulfil the great commission, sharing Jesus with others. Most churches and Christians today will believe in the great commission but will not do everything they can to make this the centre of their beliefs. Simply put, the Methodist church exists because the great commission exists, that's why it was created. We the church today, the people, not the denominations need to rethink our faith and ask ourselves if sharing Jesus is at the core of what we do. This book will help you to see what in this life is important and will act as a mirror to show you where we may be failing and then will offer the application of what we can do to remedy that and that's namely by going to the source of all love, God and being freshly filled with the Holy Spirit so that His love can enter us so our natural response will be to fulfil the great commission and thus we will lead like Welsey.
John Wesley was an amazing leader who based his leadership on God's Word. This book has motivated me in numerous ways, including information and techniques I was able to utilize in my ministry setting in the midst of reading it. I feel as a leader this book has significantly changed my approach and leadership style.
A great read (or listen in my case). The author provides leadership principles that today's gurus preach and then links them to Wesley's organization and "methodical" approach to evangelism. The conclusion says it all. He hopes that we have learned something of the origins of Methodism as well as some leadership principles that are contemporary I.e. Ecclesiastes 3:8 there's nothing new under the sun. ENJOY and bless others !
