In an effort to save mankind, Stel Caine embarks to do what hasn't been done in walk on the Earth's surface. But before she can rise from the depths of the ocean, she must first help her son rise from the suffocating darkness in which he wallows.

Low has amazing concept I want to experience: underwater cities in a world with its sun going Red Giant. What odd and bewildering things are for us to find out? I am threading my way along the 1-6 collected version, so some of my criticism may be only warranted once I move a bit more forward. That was incredibly wholesome. Made me tear up a bit. Stel is a gem of optimism working hard and overtime among a beach of bleak stones who've given up a long time ago. The artwork is superb, with panels and full spreads to be appreciated from different orientations. I particularly like the Greco-Roman influence already present on #2, to highlight the end of the empire feel lived and embraced by the majority. So far the best issue. 9/10
An entire issue damn near dedicated to an essay on why optimism is never in vain. For such a down in the dumps book, for this one to end with actual hope was a refreshing change of pace.
Great stuff in issue 3, we follow the main character and her son's journey from Salus to a probe that might hold the answer to mankind's survival. What's great about this issue is that we get constant banter between the characters, the mother is upbeat and always looking on the bright side while the son is spiteful and sees life as pointless. The artwork is great and now we get to see the other creatures of the ocean and its simply stunning. This was a great read.
Stel and Marik's ascension pod gets snagged under mammoth carcass, rendering it useless. They have about fourteen hours of ascension to reach the surface of the sea, but their suits only have two hours worth of oxygen. They get lucky and hop onto a bunch of sea creatures that carry them around. They wander around until they find Poluma, the third city.
This just goes to show you how far positive attitudes about our own fate can drive a person to go, the depths that can be reached, and how strong you can support the ones you love on your faith alone.
Falling in love with this series. Great character development, extremely interesting story, what's not to like? Now let's go find an inhabitable planet.
