Not Another Superhero is a fun, fast-paced mystery romance that always leaves you wanting more. You’ll fall in love with Samantha Addison, a smart, snarky journalist turned puff-piece editor who’s hiding from the injuries of her past.
Starting with a harrowing scene in which Samantha is attacked by a mugger in an alley, our heroine’s razor-sharp sarcasm flies off the pages. You’ll discover that her wit is what keeps her going when this near-death experience turns out to be just the beginning of an all-out attack.
But who’s behind it?
Strangely, Samantha can’t remember how she managed to survive that initial brutal assault. Weirder still, a hooded man always appears and saves her just in the nick of time.
And why has Trevor Maessen, her former editor during her beat reporter days, picked this moment to show up after leaving her during a traumatic episode seven years earlier?
Amid all of this turmoil, the stoic Jackson Christy might be Samantha’s saving grace—or not.
Twists and turns, along with plenty of action, wit, and romance, make Not Another Superhero an irresistible chick-lit concoction you can’t put down!
Life is a great story, one that requires verbs, adjectives, and a few made up words just to keep people guessing. I get a sharp, devious zing when I keeping people guessing.
From early on, during my way, way, way back days as a 19-year-old beat reporter, I've been confounding people with my descriptive writing. At first I thought the confounding was a compliment. Mostly, I think they were annoyed.
"I don't appreciate needing a dictionary when I sit down to read my paper, young lady," one reader once complained, which only made me feel exuberant (adj., means "intensely happy"). It wasn't that I had an abnormally, or even that impressive, vocabulary. I just loved mixing words into a heap of puzzle pieces and seeing who wanted to dive in and find the corner.
My early beginnings in print taught me many things, two of which I'll point out now: 1) People are fascinating. 2) Writing rules are for the timid.
For over a decade, I honed my interviewing skills until I had developed a canny, if not at times creepy, way of reading people. Or at least observing them. Their personalities, quirks, oddities, passions, language, all of it I recorded in my head like an unhackable Cloud. One day I knew it would all come rushing back out again.
One day.
Throughout my career, as I migrated into the neatly stacked boxes of business communication, the unquenchable thirst of marketing strategy, and the tight squeeze of advertising writing, I never lost my love of the character. Of their story. And of their gripping adventure, if I could ever toss them into that heap of puzzle pieces.
This is my one day.
"Not Another Superhero," for me, is an adventure of love, honor, and danger, if it happened to the quirkiest girl in the neighborhood. She's our heroine. And the culmination of what fear, doubt, and hesitation does to our life when we give it value. Or even a breath to speak.
She will, however, prove to us she's an overcomer. But, first, she's got to prove it to herself.
This book was amazing! All the characters are well thought out. The sarcasm by the main character is so on point and the twists just leave me desperately wanting more! I hope the next installment comes out soon!
This was an easy read for a fun distraction. I live in Tulsa so it was also fun to see familiar streets and buildings make an appearance. The narrator was really funny to me, I liked her.
loved it! great heroine, great hero, great ending! and i really liked the writing - humorous (not sarcasm and juvenile meanness which passes for humor in some books), well-paced, characters were fully realized.
ok, yes, there were times i wanted to shake her for not making some obvious connections or for really stupid decisions, but i can forgive all that for an ending and realizations which were worth the wait. even better, the book ended with an impression of greater complexity in the lead characters, and unresolved intrigues.
I just finished reading "Not Another Superhero" - second time through! 🙂 I enjoyed it the first time so much that I immediately went back to the beginning and read it to my husband. It was even better out loud!!! 😆😂 But “Not Another Superhero” wasn’t just entertaining, it was also deeply touching. One chapter launched my husband and I into private quiet times of reflection. Tara Lynn Thompson wrote a brilliant work of fiction not just from her head, but from her heart, and that light shines through from beginning to end.
The witty dialogue alone makes this a worthwhile read. The story though, I really enjoyed. It was one of those books where I got a bit into it and thought, "if this doesn't end the way I hope it does I am going to be unhappy". It ended the way I hoped, but not exactly how I expected. There were surprises along the way, and in the end I was not disappointed. Not even a little bit. My recommendation, read it.
Wow. Just wow. This book had me on a ride from the toothpaste beginning all the way to the end. I couldn't put it down. It had me laughing, crying, biting my nails, and saying 'wait, what?' 'OMG' 'WHAT?' and a noncoherent mumble of words. It was exactly what I needed and had no idea I needed it. I can't wait to read the next book.
A fun, fast-paced read! Samantha had me laughing out loud and the action kept me turning the pages long after I should have been in bed. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a new book to read!
Tara did not disappoint! Suspense, romance, sarcastic heroine, sexy hero, cliff hanger ending, couldn't put it down! I loved it, cant wait for the sequel!
The main character in the book, Samantha Addison, is just living life until one night, everything changes, and it’s never the same. This book kept me on the edge of my seat, it kept me guessing. I also loved Samantha’s personality; funny, no-nonsense and believable. My only problem with the book is that it ENDED! I must have more! This is the first fiction book I’ve read in 10 years and I absolutely cannot wait for another! And although the book has ended, I have a feeling there is way more to this story. I need to understand why, how and what’s next. This book made me laugh out loud and kept me flying through the pages. Overall, I would highly recommend this book to anyone who loves mystery, romance and living on the edge. This book was well worth my Saturday.
This book had more plot than most. It mostly made sense. The characters were interesting. My only dislike is that the lead was a bit too headstrong. If people are shooting at me, I wouldn't be going for long walks in the park.
This book has made it onto my all-time favorites list. The main character's use of sarcasm when presented with hard situations kept it light and humorous, and helped me to really relate to her. I loved this book, from start to finish.
What first seemed to be a light novel twisted and turned into a suspenseful plot that must be an allegory for something deeper. Samantha is a relatable and human heroine grew from a woman who did not realize her worth to a woman stumbling into her own truths. I kept relating her doubts and fears to many of my own. Plus, she is quirky and funny. If I were to compare the banter and plot in the book it would be something like Gilmore Girls funny wit meeting the cosmic battle of The show Supernatural. I was excited to see there is a sequel coming out soon.
