From the New York Times–bestselling author, an electrifying romantic suspense novel of passion, betrayal—and revenge. Twelve years ago, Alyssa Rossi fled Louisiana under a cloud of scandal and criminal accusations. But her self-imposed exile in Italy comes to an abrupt end when she has to return to New Orleans for the sale of her jewelry company to an international conglomerate. There, she comes face-to-face with Clay Duvall, the duplicitous lover who betrayed her. TriTech CEO Jake Williams has no inkling that the employee behind his company’s acquisition of Rossi Designs is a man obsessed with its owner. Then Jake meets Alyssa. Tall, smart, and gorgeous, she’s a dead ringer for Clay Duvall’s wife, Phoebe, Alyssa’s first cousin and the woman for whom Clay left her. Jake finds himself falling hard for Alyssa—despite her position at the center of a storm of gossip and controversy that has raged for more than a decade. And now a murder shockingly close to home raises the stakes as a fiendishly orchestrated plot could cast suspicion on Alyssa again—or make her a killer’s final victim. Award-winning author Meryl Sawyer’s sexy and thrilling romantic suspense novels will “keep you turning pages with lightning speed” (Kristin Hannah).
This was one of those random charity shop buys by an author I had never heard of, that I ended up absolutely loving.
I mean it was a bit mad, the plot was non stop mad things going on, but damn it that's why I read thrillers!
And the hero. Ah be still my heart. I love these dominating, bulldozer types that are a bit brash and jokey on the outside but on the inside are brim full of emotion and heart. He fell, hard, and was all knotted up and jealous and distracted by our heroine. Love love love it.
This is a great book with wonderful believable characters. I haven't read any other books by this author but I certainly intend to find some of her other work. The story was well thought out and beautifully written.
Interesting story about class consciousness, money, greed. An insight into New Orleans and what Mardi Grad is all about. Loved the characters Jake and A!yssa.
Another stellar story written by Meryl Sawyer. Good suspense, strong plot, great mystery and lovable characters. While the dark sides were disturbing, there was also some menage-a-trois, which I didn't like and some creepy, twisted parts. The strength in Sawyer's writing shows as the characters come to life and makes the reader continue to read every page until the end. I wish Sawyer were writing a story on Rueben Sanchez though. Definitely recommended. 4/5 stars.
Alyssa is a successful jewelry designer living in Italy. She accepts a buyout to move her business back to her hometown of New Orleans. The action begins when her old boyfriend (who is married to her cousin) anonymously arranges the sale, old scandals are revived and new intriques begin. Kept reading to see what happens in the end even tho this is not a mystery. Would read another book by the author.
