Kip Keene #2

The Ruby Rattlesnake

Rate this book
A submerged ruin.
An ancient evil.

Fresh off their expedition in the Incan ruins, adventurers-for-hire Kip Keene and Samantha Strike are having a difficult time with their new relic retrieval operation. Worse, things are boring - until a woman with a fresh gunshot wound stumbles into their shabby offices holding classified documents. Before collapsing, the woman addresses Keene by name, insisting that they must destroy a mysterious artifact called the Ruby Rattlesnake.

Except Keene's never seen this woman - identified only as Subject 8 by an elaborate barcode tattoo on her wrist - in his life.

But if he and Strike want to save themselves - and the world - from certain destruction, they must locate the ruins of a lost civilization long thought to be a myth. Only problem is, Subject 8's former employers already found Atlantis first...

Received some free from one of my book sites then ended up with collection 1 and 2, not sure if because been good or because been bad. Hard to describe...a little sorta but not really Indiana Jones or maybe more Malcolm Reynolds from Serenity with shades of political thriller a bit with some Han Solo type thing perhaps some alternative history and time change but not really travel.Does seem to need line breaks and some kind of differentiation in places. Kindle Unlimited, for those netflix worthy binge reads, now with exclusive novellas in collection 1 and 2 {not in 6 set}. Numbered for easy in order binging.

The Kip Keene stories might be someone's cup of tea, but I can't stand how Kip always has to have the last word. Since he is so annoying, the other people in the books seem pretty cool, I guess. The writing feels like the 007 movies where the one liners are cheesy, except Nicholas has the one liners just about every time Kip talks.

This is the second book in the Kip Keene series. Each book takes you on a new adventure that concludes when the book finishes so you’re not left wondering what happens next. Consequently you can read the book as a standalone but reading the previous books will provide you with useful background information, making it easier to understand the characters and references to past adventures.

When a wounded super soldier going by the alias of Rabbit staggers into Kip Keene’s office and hands him a USB drive before she drifts out of consciousness, he is not sure what to think. As he examines the contents of the drive he discovers proof of the existence of the most elusive and mythical lost city of them all, Atlantis.

Before this can fully sink in, Keene and his partner Samantha Strike find themselves on the run from the dubious organisation that originally uncovered the city and the secret of the powerful deadly virus buried beneath it. The organisation will stop at nothing to keep the secret hidden.
However someone else has already taken the virus and is planning to release it. Before they know it Keene and his team find themselves in a race against time, to find the lost city and contain the disease.

This is a typical action and adventure story. It is suspenseful and full of heroes with special abilities such as super strength and intelligence; people who miraculously outsmart and overpower their enemies. As some of the heroes appear to be from another planet this helps with the credibility of the story-line making their super powers more plausible.

The plot provides an interesting take on the Atlantis legend. The writing was good. The story is fast paced and full of action from start to finish. Overall this is a fun and entertaining read, full of suspense and plenty of adventure.

Review copy provided through StoryCartel in exchange for an honest review.

Fun, fast-paced and great characters.

Another very enjoyable adventure as Kip and co once again have to save the planet, this time from a megalomaniac black-ops running psychopath.

Fun, action-adventure. Nothing very deep but a great escapist read. Like the characters and the bad guy was rather easy to loathe. And who doesn't enjoy a fast-paced adventure with Atlantis at its heart.

A series I'm rather enjoying!
Impeccably edited, which is always a bonus - kudos for that!
