A is for Arctic, B is for Beaver … Paul Covello’s gloriously bright and detailed board book for the very young highlights Canada’s iconic symbols, souvenirs and events, including the Dogsled, Inuksuk, Loonie, Totem Pole and the Zamboni machine. From the author of the beloved Toronto ABC .
This book is a great introduction to some of the ABCs of Canada. Some of the pages have a lot going on which is a great way to point out various animals, talk about seasons, point out the provinces/territories, etc.
I purchased this board book for my next door neighbor's 2.5 year old daughter for Halloween rather than giving her candy that she just didn’t need. SHE LOVES IT!!!!
She has had her mother reading it to her over and over again ever since she received it. I LOVE IT because it not only teaches children their alphabet, but it also teaches them words that are synonymous with our wonderful and unique country of Canada.
Some of the words include B is for Beaver, and I is for INUKSHUK. Where but in our glorious country would children learn these words at such a young age?
I believe that it is not only important to instill a love of reading in children from a very young age, but I also believe that it is important to teach kids about the country in which they live. They should know how unique it is and how lucky they are to have been born into such a great, multicultural company where tolerance is the rule, not the exception.
Solid ABC book. None of the stuff for the letters are forced (compared with, for example, Z is for Zamboni) and the pictures are bright and cheerful and fun.
A beautiful and colourful book about Canada and the ABC’s. I think it captures a lot of classic Canadian culture and landmarks. Misses a bit of the prairies but it’s a nice keepsake book.
Covello has a great book here. He documents every letter from A to ‘Zed’ with unique Canadian concepts and icons. The images at first appear to be simple. (For example – A setting with three or four animals). But then one looks at the pictures and realized there is a bit of hidden detail here. (A collection of leaves, a grove of trees which use geometric shapes, colours that compliment each other and so forth.) The joy of this book is not just looking at the definitions and the images that are here, but to look at the details and – if one is sharing with others – discuss the details of each of the images.
A fantastic board book to introduce and teach about Canada to young children. Well written and beautifully illustrated with details and carefully selected colours to complement the setting and background for each letter of the alphabet. A must-have for every elementary school library, daycare, primary classroom and parent.
This is a great and interesting introduction board book of Canada. It presents all kind of Canadian symbols with bright colors and vivid characters. It worth to spend time with my little kiddo to discover all the details hidden in the book and to know Canada.
