Having read McGrath's earlier version of this book, Mud on Your Face, aimed at I guess the eight to twelve-year-old market and being enthralled by the simple tale and the messages it contained for our young folk, I was keen to check out the bedtime story version of the book for the younger set.

I was not disappointed. McGrath has trimmed the story down to a version that is more readable for that purpose and increased the illustrations dramatically. The illustrations match the story in that they are simple, but beautifully drawn, much like the characters in her story.

This is a fun, enjoyable book for bedtime reading that imparts some very good life lessons about love, family, and teasing or bullying. I enjoyed this read as much as the original and commend McGrath on her idea to produce similar books suitable for different audiences. I can definitely picture grandparents and parents all over the world sitting at the bedside and sharing this beautiful work with their grandchildren and children.

Another winner from McGrath. Great job and fully deserving the five stars I'm giving it.

When Gus gets lost during a family camping trip he believes his large family will not even miss him. Suddenly a new friend shows up to help him find the truth. An amazing adventure follows that leads Gus to the truth he didn't expect.

A fun, entertaining read with wonderful pictures and a great theme. Overall a great read that kids should enjoy and a good lesson for all.

Wonderful book with a strong message
Careful what you wish for! Rachel's book follows Gus, a little boy who's a bit unhappy with his brothers. The book delivers a good lesson about family, love and forgiveness. It led to a very important discussion with my little ones, about being appreciative of what they have.

A wonderful read, with a very sweet ending.

Great lesson for kids

Gus is in for a big surprise when he wishes for something. We all have, at one time or another, wished for something and regretted it. Gus' wish is coming true and he can hardly believe it. Read Muddy Face and find out what happens when Gus wishes for something he thinks will change his whole life.

Gus thinks his family hates him. He couldn’t be further from the truth.
It takes a special friend for Gus realise just how much his family loves. A special friend who also needs a home and a family.
Nice story with a good message for everyone.
