No one knows why they have to evacuate. What they do know is people all over the world have died and it has to do with the weather.
Rachel, a shy college student, is evacuated with a bunch of people she doesn't know to an underground bunker in the desert. The only comfort she can bring with her are her dogs.
The genius guy in charge seems to know everything, but the only information he is giving out is apartment assignments and an expanding list of rules.
Rachel is determined to find out what it is they are hiding from. However, it might be more than anyone can handle, especially after all the people in the bunkers closest to them wind up dead.
It will take a lot of inventiveness with limited resources for them to survive the Weather Wars.
The Complete Boxed Set of the First Season Underground.
Very good, original post-apocalyptic tale where that cataclysmic event is provided by the weather. It's not about rapid climate change, not really, but more about man's response to it and the issues that occur because of that response.
Good characters and a well thought out plot that keeps you wanting to read on long after the lights are out
I didn't get too far into it. The initial start and premise were promising, but there was just way too much teenage romance going on that I found it got in the way of my enjoying the book, and I just stopped reading.
The book starts out with a pretty clear description of what is happening. Then suddenly events start and all hell breaks loose. This story will keep you turning pages to see how this group will survive.
High Pressure System: First Season Underground by K.D. Kinney High Pressure System: First Season Underground by K.D. Kinney is The Complete Boxed Set of the First Season Underground. It contains books one through four. It is a futuristic dystopian story. I gave it five stars because it held my interest from start to finish.
It will take a lot of work to overcome the challenges of living underground and dealing with the "weather wars".
"I can't quite forget the feeling in my chest when the air was sucked out of my lungs as I was pulled towards the door to the outside. The power of the storm was unbelievable. That extreme weather somehow killed all the people in the two bunkers closest to ours not that long ago."
Rachel meets a mysterious construction worker named Micah. Her curiosity is stimulated. He created an indoor, outdoor simulator room to help with her teaching science.
Jim revealed to Rachel that there were some secrets about how the people were evacuated. "There was no denying that Jim could eventually be right about one thing. It might not matter that we're still alive. We could just be putting off the inevitable."
Micah finally showed Rachel his secret work done in his apartment. She was impressed with the job he had done that kept him occupied.
I thought this was going to be a lot longer, but I should have read the title! I would have given it five stars, but the MANY typos were distracting and the random swear words, when it seemed like everyone was trying not to swear, was strange. I loved the characters and the different plot!
While we all know about Skynet and Terminators, NALA is a worthy adversary. With one character knowing all about the dangers, everybody else is groping to understand what is happening. First Season Underground is an interesting take of the end- of-things-as-we-know-it.
This series just gets better and better. I hoped that a fifth book was available, but that one isn't available just now. I will be waiting impatiently. I know anyone who begins this serial will be as eager as I am to reenter the world that K D Kinney has created!
Not great, not bad. It was a good story line but somewhere a long the line the love story became the most important part of the book. Suspending my disbelief was getting pretty hard as the book went too long. You need to judge for yourself
