And this is where I jump off folks. There is barely a plot and this sexual relationship feels both abusive and predatory. Nope nope nope to cheap lesbian porn tropes.

2020 Read #444

The thing about this manga is that...it takes itself too seriously for basically being a trashy concept. The actuality of it is that you would hate these characters if they were real people, but the safety of fiction takes away some of the absolute mess of how these characters behave. It’s not enlightening fiction by any means, yet it exists. Take it as you will.

I still don't know. Fujiwara is totally creeper and I don't like him at all. Part of me wants to keep seeing what happens because I am intrigued by Hotaru, but at the same time the dynamic between Hotaru and Yuma is uncomfortable in a bad way. Hmm....

This series is sort of taking a turn for the worse.
The story is indeed interesting, I like how everything is twisted and not boring like some other yuri mangas I've read but I have a problem with this. It romanticizes an abusive relationship, nobody treats the poor girl with respect.

I feel really bad for Takeda and the girl.. whatever her name was ( not Hotaru ). I can relate to Fujiwara but what he's doing is really unacceptable..
This is just drama though to make the story more entertaining.

I really hope young women do NOT follow this example because this is not what a true, healthy relationship is about. Not only was it non-consensual from the start, it's gone to a point where you can tell this is an abusive relationship if you are educated... but it's not that obvious for people who don't know anything about relationships. Specifically young people.

There isn't really a plot in here if you think about it, it's just a bunch of random events to stir up some drama. The characters have not developed much either. I don't think I'm going to enjoy this as it's going to receive an anime adaptation soon, but I will still read it to see where it goes.

The coming of age tale continues with the characters suffering in their unfulfilled relationships. It's a part of maturing and it's well reflected in their inner monologues. We even get an antagonist who intends to take advantage of the two girls.

It’s not very good, which would be fine for a trashy romance. However, as it makes the abuse overtones more serious without delving much into them (trauma inflicting trauma would be an obvious baseline, but the yuri pairing is seen as desired despite professed sexual abuse), the impact of dealing with harder themes becomes a bit rougher to read. You could see that as an abstract view of childhood, like say Oshimi or Acker, but that sort of narrative perversion doesn’t seem to exist here. It’s entertaining, certainly, but it’s in a space where it could do a lot of wrong very quickly to kill the trashy fun vibe it’s clearly going for. The “parallel” bonus segment almost seems like it’d make a better 6 volume 4-koma, oddly enough

In the first volume of this series, a teenage girl is being forced to have sex with her boyfriend. In turn, she begins raping her best (female) friend.

In the second volume, her own abuse escalates. Now she is not only being raped, but also beaten by her boyfriend. Meanwhile, the female friend she is forcing herself on tries desperately to keep her relationship with her own boyfriend intact. In the end another boy takes pictures as her female friend is molesting her, then he asks if they can have a threesome.

This manga revolves around a sickening cycle of abuse, and not only will I not continue reading the series, I'm returning the two volumes I purchased for a refund.

i don't think this is working with me, i might give volume 3 a chance but i don't think i'll be reading the full serie.
i didn't really the chemistry between the two characters, the plot didn't really grab my interest, the art feels a bit wonky at times and i'm not really a fan of the whole "i like kissing my friend but... we're both girls !?" thing mangas like that have going on

In her note at the end of Volume 1, the artist promised she was going to make the story "extra soppy" going forward. I'm not sure what "soppy" entails, but I found the characters in this volume were different enough in my mind from how I remembered them, that I had to go back and re-read the first book to remind myself what I'd felt. I now see that book in a different light from how I did when I read it stand-alone. Then, I found the characters shallow, and this relationship between these two girls to be inexplicable and uncomfortable. Now, I see their relationship still seems very uncomfortable, but more believable. Likewise, I think it's interesting how the more naive girl is having to deal with not only the advances of her friend, but also what it means to have a boyfriend, and to lose one.

That part is interesting, but unfortunately the author decided to turn one of the other characters into a stock sleaze, making over-the-top demands clearly designed to just provoke reader outrage. So we've traded one problem for another. In this volume's end note, the author has promised this time to make the story "even more dramatic" and "messier." Hopefully that doesn't entail contrived villains and their evil schemes. I feel this story, while apparently just a conceit by the author to see "how far we can take things," has more potential now than ever to develop an interesting dynamic between the two main characters, and present a unique motivation for their relationship.

Yep definitely not continuing with this one any further. On top of the cheating (which Yuuma is oblivious about, no clue how a girl can't understand that kissing and practically having sex with another person while in a relationship isn't right, I don't know), we also have a blackmailing with Hotaru's boyfriend. :| Urgh. Again, why can't any of these characters just be honest and stand up. Yuuma tell your boyfriend what you did, and how you feel. Hotaru, just break up with that abusing bastard that is your boyfriend. Girls, get your feelings together and get together. ARghhhh.
