Anghelides' first published work was the short story "Moving On" in the third volume of the Virgin Decalog collections, which led to further short stories in the fourth collection and then in two of the BBC Short Trips collections that followed. In January 1998, his first novel Kursaal was published as part of BBC Books' Eighth Doctor Adventures series on books. Anghelides subsequently wrote two more novels for the range, Frontier Worlds in November 1999, which was named "Best Eighth Doctor Novel" in the annual Doctor Who Magazine poll of its readers, and the The Ancestor Cell in July 2000 (co-written with departing editor Stephen Cole). The Ancestor Cell was placed ninth in the Top 10 of SFX magazine's "Best SF/Fantasy novelisation or TV tie-in novel" category of that year.

Anghelides also wrote several short stories for a variety of Big Finish Productions' Short Trips and Bernice Summerfield collections. This led, in November 2002, to the production of his first audio adventure for Big Finish, the play Sarah Jane Smith: Mirror, Signal, Manoeuvre.

In 2008, he wrote a comic which featured on the Doctor Who website

As someone who's only seen bits and pieces of Doctor Who and most of my knowledge of it stems from info and edits sent to me by my friend who watched all of it, I had a great time listening to these short stories during my long drives to work in the morning. Of course, the stories narrated by David Tennant himself were my favorite because he's a voice acting genius (and just an all around genius in general), but all the narrators did a great job of individually voicing every separate character in each story. I loved hearing the dynamics between The Doctor and Donna as well as his various temporary sidekicks throughout these tales. I wish more of them took place during his adventures with Donna rather than after they had gone their separate ways and he was left without a partner, but one thing about the Doctor is that he will have chemistry, romantic or otherwise, with just about anyone. Some of the stories went on a little long. The ones that held more of my interest were more concept based rather than creature based, but this is a personal preference. But for any Doctor Who or sci-fi lovers out there, you will definitely get a kick out of this! :)

Well, if nothing else, this still proves that David Tennant is my Doctor..

A collection of 7 Audio books, 4 of which are read by Tennant. Those were my favorites. He gives such energy to the readings and does a better job of combining the hectic pace of the Tenth Doctor's mind with the willingness to go along with what he's suggesting every one do (usually run!).

Tate's two stories are pretty well done and it's fun to revisit the Doctor and Donna together. I liked Ryan's reading, but felt her Doctor was the flattest although I would have liked to have gotten to know her Charity better.

I love the Doctor Who expanded-universe and since I discovered them when I was a wee bit older (not much I assure you), to me its the adult version of Pottermania. Now with that caveat in, onto the review.

Collection of 7 stories many of them read by my second favourite Doctor - David Tennant and the rather amusing Tardis companion - Donna Noble. With some great spooky stories in there and witty one-liners courtesy of Donna, this is the more Detective Doctor than the swashbuckling Zorro Doctor one sees usually. And that is genuine fun!

My Rating - 5/5

PS- Totally gonna re-read this!

PPS - Totally did that :D :D

After I bought the audio book on audible I realised that I've listened to all of the stories before. Last time, I listened to the German translation, though. Although I liked most of the dramas before, the voices of David Tennant and Catherine Tate made the stories even better.

"Pest Control" - 3 stars. I didn't feel like the doctor was true to his character in this one. I also didn't like the military/war setting.

"The Forever Trap" - 4 stars. A little too long, though.

"The Nemonite Invasion" - 2.5 stars. Couldn't get into this one and Donna's story line was kinda weird.

"The Rising Night" - 3 stars. Forgettable.

"The Day of the Troll" - 3.5 stars. I loved that this one was about climate change. Story wise I was confused too often to be fully convinced.

"The Last Voyage" - 3.5 stars. The first part was amazing, the second one was unfortunately a letdown.

"Dead Air" - 4.5 stars. You could compare it to the ninth season episode "Sleep No More".

Overall, the production of all of the stories was really great. And the ones read by David Tennant and Catherine Tate got that extra Doctor Who feeling.

LOVED these audio books especially ones narrated by Tennant and Tate, I had already listened to pest control and the forever trap but very happy to listen again, really enjoyed the day of the troll as David Tennant really flexed his accent muscle with welsh, scottish, south african, scouse ect all in there -a great listen and will likely come back to it time and again

The last story was weakest for me. David Tennant’s American accent sent me in the penultimate one, but overall liked the stories and the bundle. He’s a great narrator!

If you like Doctor Who, especially if you like David Tennant as The Doctor, then definitely listen to this! He’s a great narrator and the stories are typical Dr. Who adventures. My favorites were the last two.

Nothing throws me back to childhood and those free CDs that came in the paper like a good Doctor Who audiobook. This is unfortunately a mixed bag of books overall, there are a couple I would definitely skip completely!

Mostly good stories, although the last one was a little dark. I thoroughly enjoyed David Tennant's reading but Catherine Tate's voice to me is like nails on a blackboard.

An excellent assortment of tales following the tenth Doctor and his rowdy but engaging companion Donna Noble, and read by the original actors David Tennant and Catherine Tate, with one story read by another actress of the show, Michelle Ryan.

All narrators make great stories that much better. Each are talented in a range of character voices from male/female, alien/human (here Catherine Tate displays vocal talent not heard of in the show), and hero/villain. Their sense of pace, drama, and feeling also makes 17 hours of narration seem not long at all.

The stories follow a theme that begins to be fairly predictable: a nearly extinct alien race does it’s best to survive by killing humans, but becomes too greedy about it so the Doctor must decide whether to kill it to his own sorrow to protect humanity, or persuade it to live out its existence somewhere else.

While the problem repeats itself, the solutions differ as the aliens ignore the Doctor or listen to him. And sometimes it’s Donna Noble who solves the crisis, or the humans who are the villains, or the aliens who defy the pattern and were never victims of circumstance at all.

Personally I like the mix of reactions and I think the problem of where survivorship ends and greed begins is interesting enough not to mind how the stories attack the quagmire from different angles. And also the variance in narrators and their deft way of changing things up in slow/fast, quite/loud makes for an overall enjoyable experience.

What also gives this audio original collection its depth is that it also has an overarching story of the Tenth Doctor and Donna Noble that ties in with the show. Half of the collection is with Donna Noble and half is with her absent. If you’ve watched Donna Noble’s season you know the sad circumstance of her departure. I appreciated how half the collection is the Doctor grieving Donna and the absence of a companion, even without fully stating it. And by this time Catherine Tate has exited the recording as well reinforcing the sense of loss.

The other thing is the series is somewhat a comment on Tenth Doctor heading towards his own end, and the actor David Tennant knowing it too since the audiobook collection was released six years after his last appearance on Doctor Who. So for fans listening there is a few lines with bittersweet overtones not explicitly stated but heard as the Doctor doesn’t know his own fate but we do. Much appreciated!

Pest Control by Peter Anghelides - read by David Tennant. The Doctor and Donna face monstrous insects and a ruthless robot exterminator.
3/5 - Not a huge fan of the militaristic setting, but memorable enough enemies.

The Forever Trap by Dan Abnett - read by Catherine Tate. On the Edifice, the Doctor and Donna become neighbours to a terrifying assortment of aliens.
4/5 - Loved the interplay here between the Doctor and Donna, and the setting was fun. A little handwavy with the ending maybe.

The Nemonite Invasion by David Roden - read by Catherine Tate. The Doctor and Donna fight for their lives against aliens in the Second World War.
3.5/5 - I might have been distracted while listening to this one, but wasn’t huge on Donna’s subplot. The nautical stuff was neat though.

The Rising Night by Scott Handcock - read by Michelle Ryan. The Doctor is plunged into a nightmarish adventure in 18th Century Yorkshire.
2/5 - Was very not sucked into this one. Maybe it’s because it was read by someone who (while a fine reader) wasn’t either the Doctor or Donna themselves.

The Day of the Troll by Simon Messingham - read by David Tennant. In a barren England of the far future, something is preying on people - and the Doctor...
4.5/5 - I liked the setting and the climate change narrative.

The Last Voyage by Dan Abnett - read by David Tennant. Terror ensues when the Doctor joins the maiden voyage of a pioneering space cruiser.
5/5 - David Tennant is such a good reader and actor. His voice for Sugar should have gotten irritating but it never did, and he did a great job with the cast.

Dead Air by James Goss - read by David Tennant. The Doctor faces an enemy of pure sound. Who can he trust in the dark?
5/5 - Not much imagery but that’s kind of the point. I really liked the first person narrative. It’s an experiment with telling a an audio-based Doctor story that could only work in this specific medium and it works.

3 stars 🌟 (Overall)

Pest Control - 2.5/5 Read by David Tennant. I’m not a big fan of military style stories. It was ok.

The Forever Trap - 4/5 Read by Catherine Tate. I really like this one! Great banter between the Doctor and Donna. A good alien mystery.

The Neomite Invasion - 3/5 Read by Catherine Tate. A Nautical World War story. This was alright.

The Rising Night - 3.5/5 Read by Michelle Ryan. 18th Century Vampire like aliens. I enjoyed this one! And didn’t mind the different narrator either.

The Day of the Troll - 3/5 Read by David Tennant. I may have been a bit distracted while listening to this one. It was ok, not overly memorable. England future setting. A creature under the bridge.

The Last Voyage - 4/5 Read by David Tennant. This one was entertaining. Even David doing the voice of Sugar (American accent) was well done. Maiden voyage of a space cruiser. A good alien mystery. David does a great job with all the character voices.

Dead Air - 3/5 Read by David Tennant. A sound creature terrorising a radio broadcasting ship in the 60’s. This one is told in first person instead. A bit different and definitely a story that could only work for audio book. It was alright, not my favourite.

I enjoyed The Forever Trap, The Rising Night and The Last Voyage best. Both David Tennant and Catherine Tate do an awesome job narrating. I enjoyed the Doctor Who adventures, some were better than others. The 10th Doctor is my favourite so I found it enjoyable. Allonsy!!

10th Doctor Tales by Various Authors
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Loved it! Highly Recommend
*
“You don’t have the courage to bear arms, Doctor.”
The Doctor stared at Brudge(sp?) very closely. “Oh there are lots of other things I’ll bear, and bravely too,” he hissed. “I’ll bear witness, I’ll bear the blame, bear ridicule, bear fruit. Goldilocks and the three bears. I can bear a burden, bear inspection, bear pain, and I can grin and bear it. I may be a bear of little brain, General. But what you should bear in mind is that I don’t care to, and I don’t need to bear arms”
One of the most Doctor-y quotes of all time. From “Pest Control”
*
Tennant is my favorite Doctor, and I had a 5-year-long crush on him, and I still swoon a bit over his voice, so I may be a bit biased.
Any addition to Tennant’s reign as the Doctor is *chef kiss*

Short stories in the volume are only available on audiobook.

The doctor loves to travel and meet new people, especially when he is with a friend. Follow the doctor on trips and adventures around the world one by one. And this collection of seven stories, you will find out new things about the doctor you never knew before.
Meet the doctor, the main character of this book. He’s an alien from Gallifrey. He loves to travel around the galaxy in his time traveling spaceship, the TARDIS (Time and Relative Dimension in Space) and meet new people, especially when he is with a friend. Meet Donna Noble, one of the doctors many companions. She's very sassy and smart mouth. Together they will adventure in the first story and will have loads of fun.
Doctor Who: The Tenth Doctor Tales collection put me on the edge of my seat when I least expected it. It gets your adrenaline pumping and keeps your energy Rising. I enjoyed this book so much. If you want to read this book but don't know what Doctor Who is I suggest you watch an episode of the TV series to understand more about the doctor and the TARDIS. I recommend this book for ages 10 and up just because there are some parts that might be a little scary for some people but other than that it was an amazing book and I hope you would like it too.

I bought this back in August 2018 and finally finished listening to it in July 2019.
5 stars just because I don't have the heart to give it 4 stars.

Pest Control: Four stars. This one was fun. I mean, come on, Centaurs and bugs!

The Forever Trap by Dan Abnett: Four stars. I didn't really like Catherine Tate's narration.

The Nemonite Invasion by David Roden: Four stars. It was good but could've been better. Catherine Tate's narration at its best.

The Rising Night by Scott Handcock: Two stars. I still wonder why I even finished it. Could've dnf-ed and saved myself a lot of time.

The Day of the Troll by Simon Messingham: Four stars. This probably is my favorite one.

The Last Voyage by Dan Abnett: Four stars. It was pretty nice. I love Sugar.

Dead Air by James Goss: Three stars. Good concept but it fell short.

This was very fun.
I'd listened to two of these before, but all 7 stories are great.
I like that fact that all of them have a Cliffhanger in the middle, like a proper episode of Doctor Who.
The stories narrated by David Tennant are fantastic, and the other stories are great too, and they're narrated by Katherine Tate(Donna) and Michelle Rodriguez(Missy), so it's not like they slacked in the casting department.
If you know Doctor Who you know what you're going to get here.
One complaint was that one of the stories seemed like a variation on two episodes of Doctor Who, rather than a single stand alone idea. And if it was supposed to be inspired by those episodes, it didn't really reference them enough to show that the influence was purposeful.
But: Even then, that story has a good ending, and I really liked everything overall.

Rewatching the show means my life is temporarily consumed by all things Who.

The narration and extra audio production on all these stories are fantastic as usual! I love how easy it is to picture the action and the Doctor's mannerisms alongside the audio.
As with any collection of stories, some are better than others.

"Pest Control" & "The Nemonite Invasion" - ⭐⭐ I just don't enjoy stories about armies and war.
"The Day of the Troll" & "The Rising Night" - ⭐⭐⭐ These two remind me consciously of how Doctor Who stories introduce a cast of characters and then take them all out.
"Dead Air" - ⭐⭐⭐ Great use of an audio medium to tell a story, and the ending is creepy and perfect.
"The Forever Trap" - ⭐⭐⭐⭐ I can't help but love the Doctor & Donna combo.
"The Last Voyage" - ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Such good fun!

Seven tales of the Tenth Doctor (Tennant), including some featuring Donna Noble. If nothing else, it's worth it to hear David Tennant's impression of Donna and Catherine Tate's version of Tennant's Doctor.

There are a couple of genuinely spooky stories in this collection. They tend to swing toward the suspense side of Doctor Who stories rather than the more action/adventure styles.

Downsides: the sound effects and heavy use of relatively pointless music appears to be more filler than purposeful. Some of the characterisations of the main characters seem a little off in some places. Certainly some are better than others.

Still, well worth a listen.

These seven stories are exciting (some better than the others) and I enjoyed listening to all of them. Ten has always been my favorite Doctor so stories featuring tenth Doctor read by David Tennant was already appealing but Tennant's excellent voice acting made everything even better. Catherine Tate does amazing job too and her interpretation of the Doctor is so spot on and it had me laughing at times.

The stories have funny as well as some creepy parts. And while these type of stories would undoubtedly work better as episodes of a tv show, they still hold their own for your Doctor Who reading needs!

Really great collection all the way around. The stories are classic Tenth Doctor. The readers include David Tennant (who is amazing), Catherine Tate (who is nearly just as amazing), and a woman named Something Ryan (who I really liked as well). The background sounds, etc., created the perfect atmosphere.

A some of the adventures and the Doctor and Donna together, and a couple are the Doctor on his own after Donna has to return home. The latter really capture the utter sense of aloneness and grief.

A collection of audio stories of Doctor Who, these could have easily worked as episodes on their own. They're lively, full of adventure and madcap fun. The narration by David Tennant and Catherine Tate is especially good, as they both have cadence, flow and character down perfectly.

I especially liked the stories "The Forever Trap", narrated by Tate, "The Rising Night", narrated by Michelle Ryan, and "Dead Air", narrated by Tennant.

A fun collection of Doctor Who short stories from David Tennant's time as the tenth Doctor. Donna Noble appears as his companion in a couple of them and the dynamic between the pair works well.

Later stories are after Donna has left and we see the regret writ large in the Doctor's actions. There's a melancholy feel to later stories especially Dead Air which finishes things off nicely.

Overall, recommended.

What a great collection of stories for any fans of the 10th (aka the BEST) Doctor. Follow the Doctor, and sometimes Donna, on travels throughout space and time. The only thing is I wish these had been actual episodes of Doctor Who, not just audio episodes. Love David Tennant's narration. Also quite happy with Catherine Tate's readings.
