Rate this book
VOLUME 1
When the ghost of her best friend begs for her help, psychic detective Denieve Knight goes undercover as a live-in domestic to catch a killer. She sets her sights on the most likely suspect: her friend’s mysterious employer, Doctor Braeden Frost.

Dubbed "Dr. Death" by the press, the notorious hematologist is linked to nineteen other suspicious fatalities—all are former patients. The brooding recluse is a man of many secrets, the darkest of which may be lurking beneath the leather gloves he never removes.

VOLUME 2
The job seems simple enough at first: go undercover and catch her best friend’s killer. But psychic detective Denieve Knight gets more than she bargained for when she enters Dr. Braeden Frost’s estate as a “housekeeper.”

She's supposed to be sleuthing, not falling under the spell of the enigmatic doctor and his irrepressible, hellion of a brother, Xavier.

Now after two months of working for the man known as “Dr. Death,” she's entangled in a web of secrets and lies. Each discovery only leads to more questions. Though faced with declining health and a storm of confusing feelings and simmering passion for both brothers, Denieve is determined to uncover the truth---consequences be damned. Yet the truth may prove deadly once she discovers just how deep the rabbit hole goes.

My friend and co-blogger has been telling me for MONTHS to read The Darkest Frost. She has gushed and gently prodded me, and once I had time in my reading schedule, so I finally had the absolute pleasure of meeting Dr. Braeden Frost and his brother Xavier. I read both volumes back-to-back, so writing this review/letter will be an amalgam of both.

Psychic detective Denieve Knight goes into the home of Dr. Frost in hopes of solving a murder. She has been visited by a ghost from her past and needs to find out what exactly has taken place. The infamous Dr. Frost is at the root of it and Denieve must hide who and what she truly is in order to discover the truth. Only is Dr. Frost doing the same for different reasons?

Living in a world as a psychic has proven one thing: you need to keep an open mind in all matters unexplainable and look at every angle.

Here comes the nitty-gritty, guys. What I need to tell you is this... GO IN BLIND. Just know these few things.

1- The build up is incredible
2- This is one hell of a sexy read
3- There are two deliciously mysterious brothers
4- The journey is amazing
5- Holmes’s writing and story telling is right up there with the best in PNR today

That’s it. You are getting a vague, yet raving review.

Don’t search for spoilers. Don’t overanalyze and don’t spoil it for the reader who hasn’t had the pleasure of diving into The Darkest Frost. I have a phrase I use sparingly and I am using it now…THIS IS WHY I READ.

5 of the brightest stars for The Darkest Frost
Tanja~

Our first ever cover blurb! I don't have enough words for how excited this makes me :) My co-blogger Kat has been raving about this read and I am finally jumping in! Yay to KT Book Reviews and Tanya Holmes :D

Definitely one of my favorites this year. I really need to re-read this at some point.

The premise of this story intrigued me: Denieve Knight is a psychic detective. When she is asked by the ghost of her late best friend she goes undercover in order to find out who killed her. She investigates the most likely suspect - Dr. Braeden Frost, also titled Dr. Death, who used to be her friend's employer.

I can't say I'm surprised how awesome this story is having read all those raving reviews. I am not going to say anything because everything I say might spoil it. Just know that I'm amazed, surprised and delighted by the magnificence of the main characters of this book.

The second book starts right after the cliffhanger Ms. Holmes left us with. The character development, the world and all side characters have so much depth and are so complex, it was a pleasure to read about them. Again, there isn't much I want to say about the story - you need to experience it, everything I can say at this point would spoil it for any future reader.
The way Tanya Holmes brought it all together in the end, however, left me amazed and delighted - such a unique story with a completely new (to me) concept. Absolutely adored Braeden, the brooder, Xavier, the potty mouth and Ian, well, Ian. Can't recommend this enough.

Thank God i decided to read this book because i really needed to get out of my funk.I loved it,the story is intense and original and brings you on a wild ride, i usually wait a little before reading the second book of a series but with this one i just had to know what was going to happen,i was so investe in the characters and story that i didn't want to stop reading and that's exactly what i need to keep going with a book. I loved Breaden

 photo Ship_Them_So_Hard_zpsyrf4eikd.gif

If he was real i'd probably have kidnapped him by now lol, what brought down my rating is Denieve in Volume 2 i wanted to slap her silly and shake her,i couldn't take her whining anymore after a while. The second thing that i didn't like was how the book ended,it was too abrupt and i felt like something was missing but besides these things i just enjoyed it and i'd love to read some other stories set in the book's universe.

Rated 15 Fabulous Stars!!!

This 2 book series is definitely in my Top 10 All Time Fav Series.

Just brilliantly written! Ms. Holmes is a creative genius!

The Story:
-No one trusts anyone here -- the mystery of something otherworldly going on, it keeps you guessing, and the suspense will drive you crazy!
-The romance is slow burn, sizzling & crackling in the air, and is explosively revealing when it finally comes to light.

~*~ READ THESE BOOKS -- YOU WON'T REGRET IT!!! ~*~

Volume 1:

5-blow-my-mind-stars

This was my first gothic paranormal romance. Yes, I´ve read paranormal books before, vamps, weres, greek gods, but this book was nothing like I´ve ever read before. Be prepared to get you mind blown.

From page one I was fascinated with the characters. They are so well written and multifaceted that you instantly feel connected to them.

I sympathized with Denieve and her deep loyalty to help her friend and for not beeing a push-over!
I suffered for Braeden and all the pain he had to deal with.
And don´t get me started on Xavier. I love to hate him. I want to smack him for beeing an egocentric ass sometimes and at the same time I want to tackle him to the ground and... yeah well, you know where I´m going with this.
For me he is the most profound character in this book. And I can´t wait to get my greedy little fingers on Pt.2.

The book is spiked with, not many, but very exquisite sexy scenes that will leave you all hot and bothered.

If you´re looking for a book with not only great characters but also a great plot, you really need to read The Darkest Frost!

Thank you Tanya for writing the most unique and incomparable paranormal book, I´ve ever had the pleasure to read.

Volume 2:

OK, so I really don´t know where to start.

The best is YOU start with Vol. 1 of The Darkest Frost right now, because there is no sense in starting Vol. 2 without reading the first part.

I have to confess I´ve never read any paranormal gothic romance before, but these books blew my mind. If you haven´t read any paranormal or gothic romance book before, or you think you might not like this genre, do me a favor and start to read this books. You will not be disappointed.

You looking for a captivating story, that leaves you gaspaing at every page, convincing characters you fall in love and sympathize with, a plot with a twist? Then this books will satisfy all those needs.

The Darkest Frost Vol. 1 & Vol. 2 are the first books I´ve read by Tanya Holmes and I have to say, those books are so perfectly well written, you feel all the blood, sweat and tears Tanya put in!

I don´t know what else I can write to convince you to read The Darkest Frost but DO IT!

The Darkest Frost will forever have a special place in my heart!

I adore Tanya Holmes and this 2 volume set of hers is definitely one of the best PR I've read in a long while. It has everything I love in a story. A little suspense, a little romance, a little mystery AND two very hot but completely opposite male characters that will have you guessing where your heart lies until the very end of book two!
This is a story that is best gone into blind... please avoid spoilers... the slow development of the plot and the suspense is what makes this so good.
I truly cannot recommend this series enough for the PR fan!

Oh... and, I'm completely stoked the author chose my blurb for the book cover! KT Book Reviews is very honored to be there... thanks so much Tanya! :))

The Darkest Frost 1 & 2
by Tanya Holmes

Overall Rating: 5 stars
Writing: 5 stars
Character Development: 5 stars
Plot: 5 stars
Originality: 5 stars

Spellbinding, imaginative, steamy and seductive!

This book had me captivated from start to finish!

Tanya Holmes has composed a unique story encompassing all the best ingredients that make for the most delicious stories...

..........POSSIBLE SPOILER ALERT..........

The following is a review of both books 1 & 2, and though I don't go into too much detail or revealing anything pivotal: I highly suggest reading only the author's synopsis and read reviews when you are done. Its best going in knowing nothing. Or in the great immortal words of Ygritte, "You know nothing Jon Snow."

So on back to the review...

...paranormal romance, murder-mystery, fantasy, intrigue, erotica, ghosts, assassins, alpha-pantymelting-twins, yes twins I said, strong beautiful women, fantastic storytelling, passion, intricate twists, sizzling sexual tension, lies and deception, multifaceted characters, firefirefire, sharks, piranhas, and yes, even a fake bed of nails. (because what story couldn't use one of those? )

So here's the breakdown...

Denieve Knight

She is a psychic detective who is investigating the nefarious Dr. Frost for the murder of her ex-best friend. Denieve has the ability to read a person's emotional aura which also helps her to figure out if someone is lying. Denieve is a very likeable heroine; she is caring and beautiful, clever and resourceful,  determined, very inquisitive and highly perceptive. All the traits a great investigator requires.

Danielle Reed

Denieve goes undercover as Danielle, a quiet and plain, housekeeper in Dr. Frost's estate. Oooh, the sexual tension just builds and builds between Danielle and Dr. Frost and the ignition is well worth the wait!

Doctor Braeden Frost

The press tagged him "Dr. Death" after 19 of his patients mysteriously die in his care.  Dr. Frost is as chilly as his name when Denieve first meets him. He is highly intelligent, intimidating, distant, and tempermentle. Dr. Frost is like Dr. McDreamy and Dr. McSteamy rolled in one, though at times can be Dr. Jekyll, Dr. Kavorkian, and Dr. Moreau.

But don't let that scare ya because then there's his twin...

Xavier Frost

X definitely marks the spot with this hellion. Xavier is a maverick, he's an instigator and troublemaker. Incendiary. He pushes everyones buttons, is crude and explosive. Oh but he is easy to fall in love with too. The sultry singer is poetic and philosophical, smooth and makes a mean omelet.  Don't you just love a man who can cook?

Then there's the enigmatic Ian McBride...

“There was a time when he lit up a room just by entering it. He was easygoing, charming, artistic, and very expressive.”

Ian McBride is the ultimate man. He has even made it into my exclusive boytoy-haremhusband list! And this is where I'll stop, no more needs to be said.

I hope I've enticed you enough to read this series or brought back some fond memories if you already have. The Darkest Frost series is an amazing read and my book coma has unleashed this review.  So if you can't tell yet, I freaking love this book!

Intriguing diversion in a new brand of paranormal make a commitment to take this journey with a phenomenal new author Tanya Holmes.
This is a must read series especially if you love different and refreshing in paranormal. How about bringing back the suspense of a ghost story. The physic abilities of new type of detective in a formidable role as a women. Then bombard your senses and impulses with twin brothers one as a sexy doctor and the other one explosive and dark. Doctor Braeden Frost has entwined them into a deadly medical path of human diseases. The brother’s Braedon and Xavier desire for the woman and the woman’s desire for both men this book will keep you up all night. It is sexy, romantic, intriguing and so different than other paranormal books. So many things need to be resolved

Volume 2
Well finally the truth has been revealed and the mysteries from the first book are answered. When I say this book is a Paranormal Tsunami it is because it so different. Tanya Holmes has created a new type of immortal race and it so interesting. This is not a book you should read quickly. Need to read it like drinking a fine glass of champagne. Sip it and Swallow slow and then let it warm you up and take another drink. I mean this journey takes you through a web of deceit, ghostly apparitions and hot steamy sex. I need to add the Physiological aspect of the difference between the men. I know everyone loves the bad boy Xavier. I truly understand. Xavier is fun and out there but my heart went to Braedon. I melted when he called her Sweetheart. He was the one that set everything in motion. I would love to know more about the new type of Immortal. What about Luke will he find love? Angela will she be alone forever? Please take this journey and read this series it will keep you up at night. I guarantee you it will also make you enjoy your significant other even more Hint Hint. Did I say HOT steamy sex? Yes I Did!

Well, that was one heck of a exhilarating ride. I was already in love with Tanya Holmes and her stunning writing style since I first read Within Temptation and The Darkest Frost part 1&2 just cemented my love for her permanently. I don't really read much paranormal stories but I heard so much wonderful reviews about this series as well as I missed Tanya Holmes, so why the hell not? I immediately jumped in and didn't look back. This series is unlike anything I have ever read... the tension, the twist and most importantly the chemistry all gripped my attention tight. The Frost twins have to be the hottest twins ever! Sometimes I was Team Braedon and then sometimes Team Xavier but I loved those 2 equally... they are so different yet similar to one another. Denieve was a wonderful yet strong heroine in this series and she complimented the boys well. Just to be clear; this story has no cheating or ménage... you need to read to find out what happens and it's quite worth the ride!

5 Amazing, Fabulous Stars!!!!

Volume One:

I don't give 5 stars easily. This story and the characters got under my skin and lived and breathed. It took me 4 days to read this book. 4 days to let it simmer. 4 days to savor every word. I have read nearly 50 books this year and only one other earned 5 stars from me. Thank you Tanya Holmes for your awesome words and sharing your amazing gift.

This is a tough book to review without giving away integral parts of the story so I am going to refrain from any sort of overview.

I do however have a few thoughts to note.

This is a paranormal but in a more unusual sense than I am used to reading. There are no vampires or werewolves, fairies or the like. It is unique and original!

The book ends in a cliffhanger. I HATE cliffhangers! So reading The Darkest Frost, knowing it was a going to end with a cliffhanger, was a huge leap of faith and trust for me. I am so happy I took that leap. Yes, I still have a millions questions. Yes, I am impatient to continue the story but I am actually OK with letting this story simmer awhile longer. It ended just where it needed too. I had no late night urge to hunt down the author with my freshly sharpened pitchfork. ;)

There is definitely a steam factor to this read. It's not overloaded but it's there and it's hot! Ms. Holmes can definitely turn up the heat!

The Darkest Frost really resonated with me and I hope it does the same for the rest of you!!! There is something deeper going on within this book that is more than mere words on a page.

This book is still very much with me. I suspect it will be for a long while. I am in reader Heaven!

Volume Two:
THIS!!! THIS!!! THIS!!!

This is how a story should be written!

This is how characters should be portrayed!

This is how a plot should play out!

It’s such a rarity that I find a book that speaks directly to my heart and my soul. I’ve been reading since I could hold up a book in my hands. Along the way, I’ve encountered the so-so, the good and even the great but I can count on one hand how often I’ve read a book that got me so perfectly! My connection to this story and these characters is visceral. I honestly can’t point out one flaw or one single thing I would change.

If Gothic or Paranormal romance is not your usual genre, don’t automatically disregard this book. You won’t find any of the usual paranormal creatures or things that go bump in the night. What you will find is spot on characters, a well-paced plot with twists and turns that keep you guessing and an amazing read that is so well written and unique it transcends genres.

I have pages of notes and highlighted passages most of which I won’t share here because to do so would jeopardize the experience for other readers. This series is best read completely blind, letting the story of Denieve, Braeden and Xavier take you to places you never thought you’d go and never saw coming.

One point I’d like to make is, though there are two Heroes and one Heroine, there is no ménage, no cheating, and no love triangle. “It’s Complicated!” is a phrase that perfectly describes the relationship status of the three main characters! How it plays out is mind blowing!

The Darkest Frost Vol. 2 has a wonderful mix of fun, angst and drama. I laughed so much I had a perma-grin for much of the book, the tension had my heart pounding and the tender moments had tears streaming down my face. Oh, and the sexy scenes had me begging for more. I swear, Ms. Holmes wrote this book with me in mind. She met and exceeded my every expectation and need. I am truly in awe of this woman’s talent!

This book is my perfection! Will it be yours’s?

The Darkest Frost Vol. 1 by Tanya Holmes has instantly become one of my favorite reads this year.
The story is compelling, mind blowing, and inviting. Not to mention that it has a dash of just the right amount of sexy tension between the characters that will have you begging for more.

As soon as I began my journey into this book I never wanted to put it down. It pulled you in and kept your interested piqued. I continued on reading because I just had to know how it was all going to end and who this mysterious Dr. Frost really was.

Denieve is a wonderful character that you find yourself really enjoying. She is so sweet and witty and I loved that no matter how cold Braeden got she still fought to get within his walls. I thought she was such a humble and beautiful girl because even though it was dangerous she wanted to find the truth. I love her connection to Braeden and how her gift helped her to see who he truly was deep down.

What can I say about Braeden Frost except that I absolutely LOVE HIM! As soon as I was introduced to his character I couldn’t help but love him and want him to find someone to love him, ALL of him. His character is so mysterious and dark, yet you find yourself still clinging to hope for him. He was just so brilliant; I adored his character that much. Definitely a new book boyfriend everyone should meet. I highly recommend you discover his every secret.

Between Denieve & Braeden’s Chemistry, all of the secrets hidden by both of them, and Braeden’s Twin Brother you can count on a crazy roller coaster of a ride that you never want to end. When I realized I was at the end I was just so lost. I honestly can’t wait to get my hands on the next book in the series.

I highly anticipated The Darkest Frost Volume 2 by Tanya Holmes since I finished book one and let me tell you every expectation was met and then some. I was absolutely blown away and left with a big smile in my heart.

In The Darkest Frost Volume 1 it was an instant love for Braden Frost and that love only grew in Volume 2. The only thing was that in Volume 2 I found myself slowly and surely falling deeply in love with Xavier Frost as well. I couldn’t believe how Tanya turned all that around on me and made me fall for the other character as well. It was like you could finally see into Xavier’s soul and what an amazing soul it was. You are going to love the dynamics these characters bring to the book, it’s beyond remarkable.

As soon as I began the story it began right where Volume 1 left off and I found myself on the edge of my seat trying to figure out what was going to happen next. That’s what I loved most about this book, there were so many different twists and turns and you never saw anything that was coming. My heart went out to Denieve with everything she had to learn about the men in her life, but I saluted her for her patience and the love that bonded them all together. You will truly enjoy the journey they all go on together and by the end of the story you will still be putting the pieces of the puzzle together and when they are finally connected you will be speechless. That’s what I was; left speechless and loving the story so much that it’s definitely a number one favorite as of now. This series is a definite must for anyone that enjoys a good love story, paranormal stories, and anyone that loves a good steamy romance that you won’t see coming.

I give The Darkest Frost The Complete Serial Vol 1 & 2 FIVE OUT OF FIVE STARS!!

The Darkest Frost Vol. 1 Five Star Review: LOVED!!!

Full disclosure: I'm not typically a reader of paranormal, but I really enjoy Tanya Holmes writing so I thought I'd just read a little before I went to sleep. Needless to say, I didn't sleep much that night. And I finished the book the next day. I could NOT put it down!!! I must say that it's been a while since I've finished a book that quickly. The story was compelling, the characters complex and unique, and the plot kept me turning the pages. Tanya Holmes writes so intelligently and, as a reader, you know there was never a moment where she just decided to slap some words on a page (ie. waste your time). Everything was thought out. Each word sings. The dialogue is great. I didn't find myself overly THINKING while I read, I just enjoyed the story and went along for the ride. That's when you know you are reading something by a great writer. Um, yeah, so Part 2?? Bring it!!!

Vol 2: SIX STAR REVIEW!!!

Okay, so everything I said in my five star review of Vol. 1 still stands, so I won't recap. This is what makes this a SIX star read for me...(excuse my shouting, ahem) but I WANT TO READ THE DARKEST FROST ALL OVER AGAIN!!!! I can't remember the last time I finished a book, and wanted to turn to the beginning (Volume 1) and start reading again. This story was THAT good! All the loose ends were tied up, and I was smiling when I turned that last page. But I was sad to leave the characters, so that's why I want to go read it again. It's one of those stories that unfolds in such a flawless way, that as everything gets revealed, you go OH, and remember the little hints that were dropped.

Xavier stole my heart. That punk had me cracking up, then fuming, then blushing. He made my emotions go all over the place. And Braeden...he was steady, strong, and consistent. Two very different men, with their equal appeal. What's a girl to do??? Just read the story. Stop reading this review, and read the story. Now!!!

THE DARKEST FROST IS FANFREAKINGTASTIC! BRILLIANT, JUST BRILLIANT!

I like Paranormal, but when it comes to one of Tanya Holmes stories, all I want to do is let the world know how much I LOVE IT! I don't know what took me so long to get acquainted with her amazing writing style! My daughter gifted me a copy of Within Temptation (Sons Of Temptation Book 1) back on December and I finally got to it a couple weeks ago, and that's when I decided to start stalking Ms Tanya Holmes.

Tanya Holmes is new to me, but she's Brilliant, not only that she's a great writer, but an excellent story-teller. The Darkest Frost captivated me from the very beginning, hating to have to put it down in between for medical reasons, but it make me feel like a teenager again and that make me smile. I don't ever give details of the plot, so that you can enjoy it yourself the same way I did, but trust me when I say: THE DARKEST FROST IS FANFREAKINGTASTIC! BRILLIANT, JUST BRILLIANT!

This Volume is the conclusion, of a 2-part series. Volume 1 MUST be read prior to Volume 2.

Just so you know, I don't like spoilers, especially in a two book series when I'll be probably giving something away.

This series was Absolutely and Totally Amazing!
This Volume picks up where Volume 1 left off, that's why you must read it before reading this one. You get your answers to all the unanswered questions from Vol 1. The pace of the story is pretty fast moving, keeping its uniqueness. The Darkest Frost is captivating, most intriguing and beautifully well-written. Is one of the most amazing paranormal stories I have read in a good while. The plot is original and the characters absolutely and utterly brilliant.

If you're really looking for a refreshing, unique and original story, I highly recommend that you get your hands on this amazing two volume serial.

This book was a looong, wild ride! This is a paranormal romance and I went into it blind. I don't want to spoil the twists and turns so I'll just tell you that it is a good, solid, sexy read. If you have the time, it's worth it. It's a great choice for Kindle Unlimited.

5+++ BOOKGASM STARS
( Review for The Darkest Frost: Volume I and II)

Stop what you're doing READ THESE BOOKS!!!! I'm serious! Put down that Twinkie and Diet Coke and go download these books!!! LOL

One women and twin brothers:
Disaster? Nope!
Love triangle? Nope!
Cheating? Nope!
Ménage? Sadly, no.

At least none of the above apply to this particular two book series. Are you confused? Intrigued possibly? Scratching your head trying to figure it out the deal between the three characters??? LOL

One of the reasons I love reading PNR is because authors can be as creative as they want to be. They can alter myths and legends, create creatures and worlds, bend time and space, have soulmates find one another against impossible odds … there really is no limit. Tanya Holmes really thought out of the box and created an original tale of four love stories that come together as one, beautiful and unforgettable romance.

Denieve Knight is a psychic detective hired by the mother of an old friend to investigate the murder of her daughter. Denieve's investigation requires her to assume the alias as Danielle Reed and go undercover as a housekeeper for the man who is suspected of killing her friend.

Dr. Braeden Frost, an introverted recluse with a wealth of secrets, has been the subject of controversy for the deaths of 19 of his patients and dubbed Dr. Death by the media. Time is running out for Braeden and the last thing he wants or needs in his life is a new housekeeper.

The twin brother, Xavier Frost … fuck me blind! Potty-mouthed, angry, outspoken, arrogant badboy, ultimate evil twin with the golden voice. Xavier has little to no love or patience for his brother and is immediately suspicious of his new housekeeper.

Before I go any further …

I really do need to praise Tanya Holmes for creating one of the BEST sinfully delicious badboys in PNR. Xavier comes off as being an egotistical asshole but OMGosh, the man can say some of the dirtiest things and then whisper some of the sweetest words into your ear. He had my head, heart and ovaries exploding simultaneously ... KA-BOOM!!!! Was I DTF him? Oh hell yes!!! I really wish I could get my hands on this sexy mo'fo just so I could sit him on a shelf and tickle his feet! Oh Xavier, the things I would do to you ... *sighhhhh*

As for my thoughts on the series …

I loved it! Very unique storyline and world building. Everything comes full circle and all questions are answered. The only problem I had was that I felt like I jumped into the middle of the story when I started reading the first book. It also felt a little scattered and disjointed with different POVs but it eventually gets into a groove. The story doesn't move fast but not slow either. It's more of a steady progression. Oh, and don't worry, the author isn't giving away all of the secrets too soon in the story. There's much more that follows. :-)

I think that the first book is the appetizer and the second book is the main course with a big, ole piece of death by chocolate cake and ice, cold milk for dessert. Yes folks, it's that delicious! At the end of book one, you think you know Braeden and Xavier and all of their secrets but no, no, no fluffy, you don't! Revelations in the second book have you realizing things are not as they appeared to be. By the end, heartstrings will be pulled and tears will be shed and you'll be left with one helluva book hangover!

Annnnd, right now the complete series (Volume I and II) are 'read for free' on Kindle Unlimited … it's the cherry on top of the big, ole piece of death by chocolate cake! :-)

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention Ian ... LOL ... he was more yummy than Xavier! :-)

Volume 1

Bestselling author Tanya Holmes has truly dazzled with her newest novel, The Darkest Frost: Volume 1, a dark, paranormal romance. This book blew me away; I've honestly never read anything like it. Let me forewarn you: it definitely has quite the cliffhanger, but with how I-can't-put-this-book-down good it was, I am more than willing to wait until Volume 2 comes out this fall.

This book was so completely unlike any other paranormal novel I have ever read. Tanya is a master of twists and turns that had my head spinning and my heart racing with every flip of the page! The Darkest Frost is so utterly unique that it had me quite literally gasping out loud while reading every new discovery.

Denieve Knight can read people's emotions; their auras. This is as far as her gifts lie until the ghost of her best friend appears to her, begging for her help regarding her former employer, the elusive and mysterious Doctor Braeden Frost. Braeden is completely different from anyone else Denieve has ever encountered, and she spends a countless amount of time attempting to figure out who he is and what he may be hiding. What makes the relationship between Braeden and Denieve so interesting to me is that they both have secrets, yet they are completely drawn to each other in a way neither has experienced before. What exactly are they hiding from one another, and will the truth ever become known? Guess we'll have to wait until the fall to find out!

If I could, I would give this book 6 stars. 5/5 stars for sure. Highly recommend for anyone who is looking for something different and exciting to read! 18+.

I received an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Volume 2

(Please keep in mind that this is the SEQUEL to The Darkest Frost, so if you haven’t read that, go BACK and READ IT NOW. Go ahead. I’ll wait…)

Okay, did you read the first book? Good. Now grab a cup of coffee and settle in… ;)

Wow. After finishing the second (and final) installment of The Darkest Frost, I am breathless. These books are the exact storyline I didn’t know I needed; there is mystery, romance, suspense–all centered around a paranormal universe the author carefully constructed and made not only extremely fascinating, but also highly believable.

While I absolutely love the paranormal romance genre and have read many, I have never read one quite like this. The main storyline is so unique and entertaining, I found myself glued to the words, eagerly awaiting what would happen next! This book (as well as its first part) is also filled to the brim with excitement and twists and turns around every corner. I found myself thinking I had it figured out one page, and by the next I had no idea what to think until the truth was finally revealed. I wasn’t sure who to trust, whether or not the characters were truly authentic, or if I was merely being paranoid :)

This book is not for the faint of heart, and I loved being able to continue guessing all throughout! Not to mention, the men are sexy as hell, the intimate scenes are incredibly hot, and the heroine of the story is so likable and bada** at the same time, you can’t help but love her!

So, if you’re looking for a paranormal romance unlike anything else you’ve read, filled with humor, twists, hot love scenes, a bada** heroine, mystery and intrigue…look no further!

I received an ARC of this book from the author for my unbiased and honest review.

This isn’t so much a review as a squealing* fangirl review of to her to say how awesome the books are. You see, Tanya manages to make me so very willing to step out of my comfort zone when it comes to books. I love PNR. No doubt about it. I don’t particularly care for mysteries (I’m a know it all/impatient), so there are times when the ‘who done it and why’ magic is lost on me. Again, I’m impatient.

The Darkest Frost Volumes 1 & 2 weren’t your typical mysteries. Of course we come in thinking—based on Denieve’s suspicions—that Doctor Frost is our murderer. Now we just need the proof, right? That part in itself would have been beautifully written on its own. Still, I found myself to be a bit confused by the notion that this was a gothic paranormal romance with a twist. Where was the paranormal part? Trust me when I say finding out was sooooo worth it.

A short segue, I write PNR/Fantasy. I read it endlessly. I love devouring new ways for authors to twist the paranormal to their own ends to make it uniquely their own. In this, Tanya masterfully unveiled her paranormal world without falling into a generic trap. I won’t reveal what the paranormal element is, but I will say it is delicious. I want to know more. I want to pull her aside and just ask endless questions about what led her to choose that particular name, type, powers, etc. Seriously, I want to see her world building notes because I am fascinated by the glimpse I caught.

Now for the romance, gods the romance. That twist applies not only to the book as a whole, but to everything. For the longest I was picking teams, deciding that she should be with this guy over that one. Then wham! Tanya hits me with a ‘bet you didn’t see that coming’ and…Yeah. I didn’t sleep when I read the books.

Let me go back for a second for the mystery. No spoilers, promise. Nothing worse than someone who takes the OMG out of a mystery, right? Anyway, it’s never what you think. That is the general rule for mysteries, right? Well, a mystery tossed in a paranormal plot is doubly interesting. Not only is there finding out who did all the things, but also—in Tanya’s case—trying to decipher the breadcrumbs to her big reveal for the world she built.

Also, cliffhanger ahead. She warns you. I am glad that I picked the books up after Volume 2 was released. I HATE cliffhangers. This one would have made me f-ing insane. My recommendation, get both at the same time. No need of having to run back to one-click the next one and wait those precious seconds while it downloads. Trust me. WORTH. IT.

I‘ll close my fangirl “review” with this. World building is a big, big, big deal to me. Tanya does it in a way that seems so effortless that I am in literal awe. The Darkest Frost Volumes 1 & 2 are examples of her seemingly effortless storytelling. You will rage, laugh, cry, and elation will flood over you when you finally know the who done it and why. Really, this was a glorious read.

*No eardrums were harmed in the making of this review.

Vol 1

I'll be honest, I usually stay away from books that are categorized as "paranormal", so when I was asked to read/review this book, I was hesitant, but boy am I beyond glad that I decided to journey out of my comfort zone and read this book! In the past, the paranormal books that I have read seemed to be way too overboard with the paranormal aspects, but with the Darkest Frost, it was like they were almost subliminal. From the second I opened this up on my Kindle, I was hooked and could not step away (sorry kids)!

Everytime I felt that I had a grasp on where the story was going, Tanya would go and flip the switch on me! I never knew what was going to happen from one page to the next! I think that is what drew me so deep into the book! I can't stand books that are so predictable they end up being DNF's and The Darkest Frost was definitely not one of those books! And can we talk about the steaminess factor?! WOW!!!!, the steamy chemistry between Denieve, Breaden and Xavier left me all sorts of worked up!

The only thing that annoyed me with this is that I have to wait until later this year until I can get my hands on Part 2!!! This book has caused me to have one of the worst book hangovers that I have ever had, it won't leave my head! DEFINITELY DO NOT MISS THIS ONE!!!!!

Vol 2

Warning: be prepared for a book hangover of epic proportions!!!!

When I finished Vol 1 of The Darkest Frost in June I knew that I was going to go nuts waiting for Vol 2 to come out. I was just about at that point when I received the ARC and let me tell you, this book did not disappoint me ONE SINGLE BIT!!! There were tons of laughs, tons of tears (definitely tears at the last word when I knew this was the end), and TONS of twists and turns that left me questioning what I thought I already knew about these characters. It completely consumed me heart and soul from the first word. This is shocking for me because I have never been a huge fan of the paranormal romance genre and haven't been able to ever get into one as much as I got into TDF.

Denieve, Braeden and Xavier are written in such a way that they seem like they are real people not characters on the page. I think that is what drew me so deep into this book, they weren't wishy washy personalities, they were people who had real issues and dilemas that they had to find answers to. And as with the first book, the steaminess factor is just as off the charts and made me want my own Xavier! Yes, I have always been Team Xavier since Vol 1, but at the end of this one and without revealing too much information, I may been leaning towards another team completely!

I am a Tanya Holmes fan for life and you are all missing out if you have never read one of her books!!!

I'm forever in awe of authors who can create whole races of people and their histories.
Deni has fallen in love with Braedon, but has feelings for Xavier that she keeps denying. How in the hell can I write a review that does this book justice without giving things away?? I'm hopeless and feel it's impossible.
I really loved the fact that Tanya has created a whole race of people and their history
There are ups and down aplenty. People who only want the truth; people who seek the truth, but can't be told; people who discover the truth then have to become a part of that world in order to survive.
This is seriously a great read that had me hooked from start to finish and after being interrupted numerous times, I finally had a night where I saw it through to the end (cue sleepy self the next day!).
I would definitely recommend this to anyone who likes paranormal reads and for those who want something that's well written and thoroughly enjoyable. Don't write it off though if you're not normally a paranormal reader. There's something here for everyone.
Volumes 1 & 2 will keep the reading bug at bay for a few days while Deni discovers the truth behind Dr Braedon Frost and his brother, Xavier.

5 stars from me.

"The Darkest Frost" Volume One
Dayum, this story had me going from beginning to end. Braeden and Xavier Frost both had my tongue salivating, but heck, why not, they are identical twins, right? Danielle/Denieve was the perfect female character to opposite the two intriguing male characters. Character Chemistry was on point. Great writing from Tanya Holmes. She is a very gifted writer and I look forward to reading more of her work in the future. Do not sleep on this Incredible Read. Yeah, there's a cliffhanger, but I'm too excited imagining what will happen in the conclusion of this story.

"The Darkest Frost" Volume Two
Great Follow Up to "The Darkest Frost" Volume One... I only wish there was more. Tanya Holmes' Brilliancy as a writer was again evident in this Amazing Collaboration of words. Character Chemistry was on point and oozed from beginning to end. Do not sleep on either volume of this Incredible Story.

What a great storyline that sucks you right in. I have to admit that I found the whole concept strange but it was definitely interesting and held my attention until the very last word. This is the kind of story you need to experience for yourself so I'm not going to say anything else. That being said, I don't see myself reading the book again - hence why I didn't rate it five stars.

The Darkest Frost starts off with gothic vibe but after characters are introduced it's a full-on paranormal romance. I really like the idea of the Frost brothers, their relationship and the effect they have on Deni. I don't want to slip any spoilers so I can't say much but The Darkest Frost is fun and sizzling hot. No love triangle. Some part might seem to drag a little but overall it's a very entertaining book.

Good story, if a little complicated. It just ran too long, especially with explanations that had already been given several times.

Vol 1:
When I started this book I am going to admit, I thought it was a bit slow. But as I kept going I realized how important every detail was to the story. I always wonder (with any book) if the background or descriptions are beefed up to increase word count. Well, that is NOT the case here.

Nope, Tanya is very deliberate and thoughtful in her writing, and it shows with each chapter. The development of not only the characters, but also the entire scenario is amazing and truly pulls you in. I want to tell you all about this book, but that is hard to do without spoiling it for you, so this is all you get.

Braeden is quite the main character. He is difficult to read, yet you desperately want to know more. As we are allowed to learn about him, Braeden becomes the flame to this moth. I needed more, all the time. And Denvieve (also Danielle - love the name btw) is a heroine you can root for. Determined to uncover the truth, she puts herself in, um, interesting positions that really pay off for the reader. And let's not forget Xavier. Who is he you ask? Well, that's for you to find out ;)

Oh, by the way, if you are looking for some heat look no further. Also, you may want a pair of leather gloves to hold the kindle - you never know when it might get hard to hold ;)

Vol 2:
This is one of the most amazingly written works I have ever freaking read. EVER. EVER-EVER.

Tanya Holmes's ability to engage readers is incomprehensible; authors everywhere WISH they were this addicting. This review is difficult for me because I have this deep-seated fear of giving it all away, so I won't. I will say that the characters are written so perfectly that as a reader, you feel everything they do - you don't read about it, you LIVE it.

The twists and turns were well placed, always interesting, and never disappointing. The characters' growth, be it personal or the relationships with each other, is organic and thought provoking.

The plot... OMG can you say original?? Wait, that's not right, because it is SO much more than that!! I have never, NEVER read anything like TDF and I highly doubt I ever will again, simply because the entire world Holmes created cannot be imitated or duplicated.

Top 5 of 2015.

I was given and ARC in exchange for an honest review.

21 - Nov : DNF
2.5 Stars

I just couldn't do it.

The story was an interesting premise, there were some intense moments, but I just grew so fatigued with Denieve I stopped caring. I didn't care if and she had a HEA, I wouldn't have cared if she fell off that face of the earth. She became too sanctimonious, treated like crap even when she understood the whole situation, and then chewed him out when he started treating her similarly. She lectured Xavier and Braeden about having secrets, (well it was kind of a crazy one), yet SHE was hiding a big one too, and couldn't understand why Xavier was so upset when he found out she had lied. I couldn't take her any more.

Also Luke seemed like an irritant to her early on, and then suddenly, even when he's being an asshole and then after the big event at his house, he is suddenly 'sweet Luke'. I read that and wondered if there was ANOTHER Luke I had missed somewhere, other than the one she had described early on as belittling her talents and abilities. To me, that's not really a 'sweet' person. Call my crazy.

The story was well written, and there was some intriguing lore created for it, but for me it wasn't enough to mitigate my loathing of Denieve, especially since her drama seems too dragged out after she found out the truth. Serious maturity missing there, and you can only blame, so much.

7-Nov : About 65% in and the book is dragging for me. Seems overly convoluted, and D is beyond irritating. She had been somewhat interesting and flawed early on, but now seems irrational, unreasonable, and the 'excuse' sort of doesn't cut it. She almost sounds like the complaints she made about Caryn.

Volume One was 4 Stars

Volume Two - 3 Stars
Volume two towards the end was already too much. It felt like things were just going round and round in a circle. Too many fillers/felt repetitive. The story lost its steam. I was done 30 pages before it was. The aliases towards the end became ridiculous. I barely finished it and found myself skimming. I was done with all the characters. The "thing" with Caryn, the "BFF", was annoying. Points in the story dragged.

This is not a love triangle even though there are two heroes and one heroine, but it did feel weird.
