Highly recommended as a guide to reading through the Bible in a year. As the title says, it simply follows the Bible from Genesis to Revelation. There are a number of things I like about the book. First, the Bible readings for each day are all about the same length, so that you don't read Psalm 117 one day and then all of Psalm 119 on another day. Second, there are two sets of comments each day. One comment is Mr. Carroll's reflections on the day's reading passage. These comments are theologically sound and drawn from the text itself. The second set of comments is Mr. Carroll's challenge to the reader, again drawn from the text itself. Many daily devotional guides begin with a verse, or part of a verse, that serves as a springboard for warm thoughts for the day. These warm thoughts often have little to do with the text selected. Both the reflections and the challenge sections of this book are clear and helpful applications drawn from the biblical text itself.

Restarting in New Year. Going to try again.

2019:
I have had the goal of reading the whole Bible for ages. I would start and stop and start and stop. A few years ago, I got this book for free and thought it would help keep me on track. It worked for a while, but then I got sidetracked and would have to start again. I finally finished this book and the Bible.

Since I am the author, I will not pretend objectivity. From my preface, to you who have never successfully completed a reading of the Bible, I will make these claims:

This book is for you. You are not alone. You are not the only one who has struggled to maintain a daily time of Bible reading. You are not the only one who has bogged down in some of the tedious sections of the Old Testament, desperately wondering if those passages are really “profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness…” (2 Timothy 3:16).
Here’s how “Cover to Cover” can help you.
• Simplicity. The daily reading schedule here starts in Genesis and goes through the 66 books of the Bible in order to Revelation. You will not be reading from different parts of the Bible (although that is a popular way to read). This plan is simple. It is easy to keep your place.
• Uniform lengths of daily readings. The daily assignments (set up using Logos Bible software) are about 85 verses long and break at the end of paragraphs.
• Fellowship. Within the limitations of the printed page and the author-reader relationship, I share my own daily reflections and challenges with you from the passage you are reading. I hope you will read the daily assignment in your Bible. Then, time permitting, make a selection of a favorite verse or passage, do your own reflections and challenge, and, then, check and see what I got from my reading.
I can assure you that it is do-able to read the Bible through in one year and to gain great benefit each day from your reading. Of course, you don’t have to wait till January 1 to begin. Today is the best day to begin. Let’s go.
