I read a lot of books every month; actually I go through about three a week. Most books I forget about and move on. Take in some info. Keep pushing to the next best thing. Derek's book is different. I won't forget the message he is putting out there in "Break Through Your BS." First of all, there is a¥so much in these pages that you need to really slow down to absorb what it is the author is saying. The content is set up in a way that you need to pass, think, read more, think even deeper, and then occasionally go back and re-read what you've just read. It's some deep stuff here and you can really feel the author's passion for the topic.
What is the topic? Break your limitations; overcome mediocrity; face your fears and leverage it to take action; acknowledge what rejection is and don't accept the bulls*** that your mind is pushing on you.
Derek shares some very interesting strategies such as "The Slingshot Effect" [read the book to find out what it is, I won't be giving away any spoilers here]. We also have a choice in every situation, even when we don't have a choice; you are never powerless but your mind will convince you that you are. Don't believe it. Derek has obviously spent a lot of energy and meditation time selecting on these concepts because they are not just "regurgitated" from some other self-help book. Break Through Your BS is original, and as original as it gets with the authors viewpoints shared so honestly. He doesn't tell readers what they are expecting; He doesn't tell us what we want to hear. He tells it the way it is and you can accept it or not, your choice.
The book is intentional in the sense that every chapter has its own theme and mission. In one chapter we are being taught how pride gets in the way; then how to love unconditionally, relationships, beliefs, intentions, excuses, lies, half-truths, negative thinking, greatness, contribution, slavery [of self], empowering choices, how to give a s***, when you shouldn't give a s***, complacency, distraction, pain, attachment, fear, loss, giving and receiving, uncertainty, ego, growth mindset, and living your journey. These are just a few of the awesome topics covered.
Why would I recommend this book?
It doesn't tell you how to think or what to do; it gives you the option of thinking for yourself. Do this or don't do this. You can live your live anyway you want. But remember: your illusions are just a thought away. The book is a tough companion that comes at you with a relentless and by the time you are halfway through you question your own reason for existing. That's when change really takes place. When you question reality, you are left with a void to fill.
Break Through Your BS is a pathway to filling it.
