This is the most complete reference guide to the Korean art of Tang Soo Do (Moo Duk Kwan) ever published. It covers the 19 forms from white belt to black belt (fourth dan master grade), explaining in step-by-step detail the various moves and techniques of each form. This guide also includes the complete lineage of the Moo Duk Kwan, which is the world's most popular style of Tang So Doo. The author, Grandmaster Kang Uk Lee, is the president and chief technical advisor of the international Tang Soo Do association.
This is a clear, simple guide to the forms, with diagrams and photos combined with step by step instructions.
I know most of my instructors have a copy of this book and often refer to it when we discuss the details and applications of a form. Having looked through it, I can see why they value it and also how useful it is going to be for me to keep my training focused during lockdown and when we get back into proper training.
There is a brief introduction to Tang Soo and a lot about the structure of the international organisation. I would have preferred more detail on the history, influences and background, but this can be found in other places. There is a useful Korean/English glossary but the illustrations for some of the sparring/ applications show little of actual value in their content.
I took Tang Soo Do for three years, this book clearly enplanes all the forms that were taught in my school clearly and descriptively, I am sure there would be differences school to school but this is a great reference.
I refer to this book regularly to refresh my memory on the Tang Soo Do forms. They are laid out and described well. Along with my personal notes, all and all this is a good reference book.
