Charlie is good at her work. As a hard charging drug rep with the brains and talent to make it to the top, she has the world at her feet. Then, the lights went out, and everything changed. An E.M.P. decimates the United States, leaving the country in the dark. With modern technology suddenly and permanently turned off, society's dark side quickly takes over. Caught on the road, she teams up with two new companions and they fight their way towards safety and freedom. Criminals, gangs and worse stand between them and the safety of a friend's farm.
A Going Home Novella based on the best-selling series by Angry American, Charlie and her two companions must find a way out of the big city, or die trying.
CHRIS WEATHERMAN, also known as ANGERY AMERICAN, is the author of twenty-two published works, including USA Today Best Sellers Forsaking Home and Resurrecting Home. His books include the Survivalist Series, a sensational hit that began with the first book in the series, Going Home, and has sold more than one million copies worldwide. Chris’ latest release, Engineering Home, was #1 on Amazon New Releases Charts in Dystopian Fiction and Dystopian Science Fiction at its debut. It was also #2 on the Amazon Best Seller Chart only behind George Orwell’s 1984 upon Engineering Home’s release.
Chris appeared in season one of History Channel’s Alone series. He has been involved in prepping for over thirty years and practices primitive skills as well as modern survival that focuses on being prepared with the proper equipment. He travels the country appearing at expos and prepper-focused events to meet with readers, sign books and occasionally speak. In addition to these events, his travels also allow him to meet and train with instructors and students all over the country on preparedness and homestead design covering everything from food production to security.
As a trade Chris worked in the power industry for nearly twenty years building power plants and performing line work for power companies. He worked his way up to be the commissioning and start-up supervisor for many of these projects and has a solid understanding of power generation and distribution.
Chris currently lives in Florida on the edge of the Ocala National Forest with his wife of twenty-six years and his thirteen year old daughter Little Bit.
Charlie, aka Charlotte, is a pharmaceutical rep visiting one of her clients in the Orlando area when an EMP hits the USA. The doctor realizes what has happened and the danger all his employees and patients are in. Hundreds of thousands of tourists along with the residents of Orlando are suddenly without any means to travel home or survive. This story focuses on Charlie’s adventure as she tries to get to safety with several traveling companions.
This novella is a joint effort by Angery American and Walt Browning. It is a companion work to the Going Home series by A. American. Instead of focusing on the microcosm of Morgan’s world, it explores the disaster from the perspective of non-preppers caught in the masses of humanity.
I thoroughly enjoyed this novella and am happy to see that the authors have decided to continue Charlie’s story with full length novels.
AN EMP BLAST, PEOPLE UNPREPARED FOR THE OUTCOME & OTHERS MAYBE TO PREPARED, CAN ONLY HAVE ONE SOLUTION, A DEADLY ONE.
This is one book in what looks like will be a series for everyone to read and I will definitely pass the word on this soon be be great series. An EMP goes off over the United States, leaves everyone shaken and it's not long before panic sets in for the ones that are unprepared. First they believe its just a power outage, so people do as they have always done, they set and wait. While all around them, it has started, anarchy from others who think they can take or are owed something, as that is where the real problems start to rise. Some people do just that, start taking things, anything, anyone and if they can't take it by force, they kill for it. Then you have others like Dr. Kramer, a cardiologist with an office full of heart patients, nurses and his main office nurse Janice and a generator for now. He also has Charlie (Charlene), a Drug Representative, sho just happened to be in his Office when the "lights go out". They are able to survive for awhile there with Dr. Kramer and others, but an incident happens, that make them realize they can't stay there forever. So with Doctor's help and an old car they acquired, that was with able to stand the blast they all go, they separate ways. But they all soon find it may have been better to stay together, as they start to see the horrors everyday people, can do to others. Walt Browning & A. American have written one great novel together, and I for one hope it goes far.
With theme parks full of families an EMP has taken the power grid down and the parks went dark.
This story of struggle and survival in a world gone crazy, this novella brings an interesting and informative theme to the lives of a pharmaceutical rep in a doctor's office, corrections officers trying to understand the new world order, and an Orlando police officer. Both entertaining and informative, this story begins a series that threatens to bring a whole new world and some tips on death and survival in a world without power. The goals have been met so far and I'm looking forward to the rest of the series!
This short story is a realistic interpretation of how fast and how far society as a whole will fall if our privileged way of life in America fails.
Sometimes outlandish, in turns informative then filled with speculation the brutal realism used in this book is one that could very well become a truth someday.
Good to revisit the Going Home world. I’ve had this one for quite a while but for some reason hadn’t read it. Glad I got caught up! Good character development, fast action. Thanks AAmerican and Walt Browning!
This survivalist series was a bit annoying as it based most of conspiratorial plot on the government getting people dependant on the state. After people needed welfare, food stamps, assistance in any form they were somehow not as worthy to freedom and would blindly comply with the government. This political philosophy is wrong in my eyes, but there are some that believe this. This is just a story and I enjoy the DHS jokes. The book has spelling errors and is not a mainstream published book. I like that about it and the story is good. The is good for me because it follows a few people and their adventures while imparting some prepping knowledge. The book series is now becoming more engaging for me as the basic skills for survival and specialized knowledge used to thrive in a cam setting are used. This book does not have a lot of surprises but it is an easy and good read.
I wanted to love this more than I did. Part of what I didn't like was the narrator on Audible, so I won't hold that against the book itself. The protagonist is female but the narrator makes very little attempt to let you know when he's speaking as Charlie (a young lady). And his pauses are in odd places... it's just off-putting to me. The story itself lost a little favor with me because as soon as the cataclysmic event happens so many people seem to be professionals who know exactly what happened and already know exactly how things are about to go down. There are incredibly intelligent people who might have things figured out in hours, but as a society, we've already proven there would be far more naysayers and conspiracy buffs.... and just a lot more chaos in general.
Having read A. American's "Going Home" series, the EMP event and being set in Florida was familiar. There are some grammar, spelling errors etc and at times the dialogue is a bit awkward (e. g. Garrett). I like Dr Kramer and his insistence on trying to educate and protect the people in the clinic. Like "Going Home" the DHS and their nefarious plot is a little murky and hard to swallow. On the jet that landed on the lake, I don't understand how all the electronics, engines etc died but they were able to use the intercom. Seems like that would not have been able to function. I assume there will be another book? If not, it ends with no real resolution.
Charlie's Requiem brings home the sudden onset of a major disaster and how fast our society devolves into anarchy. The formation of Charlie's group of survivors shows how critical it is to form a group for overcoming obstacles an individual couldn't handle by themselves. It also shows the many facets of human behavior and how different individuals might react to the stress and danger involved. Recommended reading for those who would like to enhance their survivability in trying times.
Not as many survival tips as the Coming Home series but still has some good information. An insightful look at the collapse of a society so heavily dependant on the government or anyone taking care of it. Enjoyed the read and like the character development. Look forward to reading the rest of the series. A great starting point for anyone who thinks society may be heading in a dangerous direction. .
I read this in less than a day. It's a quick read, and is very entertaining (for lack of a better word). It's a bit dark at times but illustrates well a collapsing society, and the actions of desperate people. The good guys are likeable and the bad guys are deplorable.
I've read the first 3 of A. American's Home series, and heard about these and thought I'd given them a whirl. I have not been disappointed! I highly recommend both series!
Awesome, hard to put down and unexpected situations!
10 stars as this book kept my attention from start to finish!! There is more than one story in this great book! I seriously look forward to the next book, series, i hope!
Fantastic team of writers! At the top of my list of must - reads!
Normally, I do not like novellas. This one fit my time frame perfectly.....then lucky me there are more! What a delightful surprise. Enjoyed the story. Kept me river to my seat, my hands have gripped my kindle for an hour, I have calluses on my finger tips from tapping the book.
Charlie's Requiem is a great easy fast-paced read and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. The main characters are watching and processing what is actually happening to the hundreds of people that are being herded. I'm definitely going on to read Democide and see what happens to everyone.
I enjoyed this book, well written with characters I need to know more about! I love the fact it's taking place in my state. This first book leaves you wanting more. Getting more now
I loved it and I hope you guys finish it. Charlie is great and so are the others. I like seeing how it would be in a bit city, what a nightmare! My worst actually, that's why I don't love in or near one. Please give us more of her story soon!
While I enjoyed the story I resent the fact that absolutely nothing is answered. They clearly want you to buy a whole lot more books before you even find out what is going on. If you’re up for purchasing multiple books then it’s a pretty good read.
Really enjoyed the collaboration between the two authors. A very different perspective from the Going Home series. Truly looking forward to reading more of Charlie's story. Keep up the good work
Not bad for a novella. The authors are good writers with excellent results in the past. Give this one a try. Not all good stories take an entire book. Give it a chance..............a American books have long been favorites among these that read dystopian novels.
I'm a.fan.of the Empire disaster event novels...this was a quick read I felt it lacked good.details of the characters.and events.and.kinda went goofy with wanna be romance...not sure if I would CONTIUNE with series We shall see I spouse
If we ever lose power, it will be anarchy. This book describes well how it could happen. Also, the actions of the DHS are accurate given the current crowd of clowns in DC.
During the same EMP timeline that Morgan Carter endures Charlie a city girl who is totally unprepared gets faced with harsh realities of violent citizens and a corrupt government. This book was a quick read full of page turning thrills.
As someone who lives in Orlando it was very interesting, informative and way too realistic. It absolutely started a new fear and got me thinking what would I do if this actually happened. It was also strange listening to this as I drove minutes away from the roads they were mentioning.
An abused boy goes psycho. Read Kindle book using Alexa audio asset. Borrowed using Kindle Unlimited. EOTWAWKI, although several chapters occur before SHTF. Several people try to find a safe haven...
