Yato is a homeless god. He doesn't even have a shrine, not to mention worshippers! So to achieve his ambitious goals, he's set up a service to help those in need (for a small fee), hoping he'll eventually raise enough money to build himself the lavish temple of his dreams. Of course, he can't afford to be picky, so Yato accepts all kinds of jobs, from finding lost kittens to helping a student overcome bullies at school.

Ebisu and Yato have adventures and character growth together in Yomi (which, amusingly, is listed in the regional tourist guide).
This episode references the myth of Izanami, which seemed pretty interesting. I plan to read more about it later.

Ebisu: a god loved by all, who would offer up his life for the sake of others.
Yato: a god forgotten by all, who would grant any wish to save himself.
What a GREAT dynamic. This was powerful, and heartbreaking, and beautiful. I LOVE Ebisu.

Ebisu y Yato se encuentran en una misión para encontrar el Yomi no koto no ha, que viene siendo un pincel con el cual se crean ayakashi.
Sin embargo, se topan con la diosa Izanami, quien al parecer es la “madre” de Ebisu, y cuyo único deseo es tener un amigo que se quede a su lado. Pese a ello, este ente no augura nada bueno y para darles lo que buscan, Ebisu y Yato tendrán que enfrentarse el uno al otro ya que el ganador podrá irse de ese lugar tan tenebroso.
Por otra parte, continúa el Concejo de los dioses quienes desean imponer un castigo a Ebisu, por romper el orden en el Cielo. Pero, Bishamonten y sus shinki acuden al rescate de Ebisu pues no hay forma de que él haya cometido tales actos, al menos no sin una razón de gran peso.
Por otra parte, Yukine, quien ha ido en busca de Yato, se encuentra con Kuga y éste le llena la cabeza de un montón de inseguridades. Los nora tienen más de un amo y eso los hace poderosos, sin embargo, Yukine es un recipiente sagrado y, por tanto, debe apoyar a Yato a como dé lugar.
Ya para el final del volumen, Bisha y compañía rescatan a un malherido Ebisu, solo para que éste muera en las manos de la diosa. Y ahora, ¿qué demonios irá a pasar?
Este volumen contiene los capítulos 32 – 35.

So this just about ends the current arc(the next volume will probably finish it off).
What can I say about it? I'm not that impressed.
Sure, I'm slowly recovering from that disaster chapter in volume 7 that made me hate Yato as a character but overall I felt the volume was lackluster?
Why is Ebisu doing the stuff he is? How is Yato's dad involved?
I'm assuming those will be answered later but my main annoyance was Hiyori.
She suffers what many female leads suffer from in the shonen genre. She's only good for morale support.
I was glaring at her as she decides to go after Yato. What in the world could she do? Nothing. She gives Yukine a peptalk to increase his power. Oh yay. If Yukine wasn't there she would be dead or something. -_- Just stuff like that annoys me.
Also, the fact that Izanami took the form of Hiyori? I felt like it was the authors trying to give us fanservice of Hiyori rather than it being Izanami being devious.

Mamma mia in questo volume Ebisu mi ha ucciso con le emozioni. Inizialmente lo trovavo insopportabile e altezzoso, ma ci sono state mostrate pian piano la sua personalità, le sue intenzioni e passato, e niente...mi fa estrema tenerezza e mi piace moltissimo.
Mi è dispiaciuto tantissimo per la sua fine e anche se so che rinascerà è stato molto toccante.
Meraviglioso come pagina dopo pagina ci viene delineato maggiormente il personaggio di Yato e io non posso che amarlo sempre di più.
Grande Yukine che nonostante a volte mostra titubanza nelle sue scelte, ha dimostrato di prendere sempre quelle giuste, e di possedere una forza strabiliante come una fedeltà incontrastabile per suo padrone ,e per favore....per favore qualcuno vada a salvare Yatoooooo.

Wow, so much shit went down in this volume it's not even funny. I definitely feel like this arc has been more dense than previous arcs, but this volume did pick up the pace more.
It was nice seeing Yato encourage Ebisu and now that I know his motivations, I have to say I side with him. Also, his backstory was quietly heartbreaking, if that makes any sense.
And yeah, Izanami's fucking terrifying and could stand to chill the fuck out, but what can you do when you're the queen of the underworld who was abandoned by your lover because you were deemed too ugly?
I have a feeling the next volume's going to close out this arc, so I'm looking forward to seeing what becomes of everyone involved in this mess.

Yato’s my one of my favorite characters because he’s such a deep character. With each new volume you get to know more about him. The character development of this series is soooo well done.
But that’s just one aspect of this story! So much happens in each volume. The pacing is wonderfully done. I’m really impressed! The quality of everything hasn’t gone down with time, like with some other mangas.

If there is a downside to this volume, it's the fact that some of the significance of what happens in Yomi might be a bit lost if the reader is not already familiar with the concept. The translation notes at the end help somewhat, but most readers will not read them until after the fact (and I would normally suggest reading the translation notes only after the fact, then possibly re-reading the manga if the reader desires). It's difficult to recommend reading before or after in this case, because I think there's potential for the native English speaker to get some extra enjoyment of discovery of plot points without already knowing some of the details of the story's cultural context in advance, but in this particular volume the Yomi material might be particularly opaque without that cultural familiarity. Unfortunately, I think even the translation notes -- excellent, informative, and very interesting, as they always are for this series -- do not convey the full depth of meaning in the events surrounding Yomi. I've been watching anime and reading manga for close to three decades (longer if you count the few things that made it to US television in the early '80s) and have studied Japanese language and culture somewhat, and have a little better feel for the Yomi context in this volume than conveyed by the , but I still feel like I missed something.
This volume of the Noragami series upholds the high standard of quality writing and art I've come to expect. There is a lot of depth to the world, relationships, and backstories in this series, especially relative to the standard of other manga and even bestseller novels in the US. Sometimes, I wish some of the foreshadowing might have found its way into the story a little earlier than it shows up, so that it might feel more natural and less like the author just came up with an idea a couple short chapters before bringing its subplot to climax, but the manga medium tends toward very fast-paced story development, so I suppose there is only so much to be done about that.
As always, Noragami is a fun read, engaging and absorbing, and its development of character, plot, and story is nuanced and interesting.

Ebisu mi stava un po' sulle palle all'inizio. (anche nell'anime, a riprova di quanto sia fedele al manga) però piano piano ho iniziato a capirlo e apprezzarlo.
Yato si rivela sempre più maturo e sempre più legato a Hiyori e Yukine, non vedo l'ora che la situazione si risolva anche se sicuramente poi inizieranno i veri casini.
Il finale? niente, mai na gioia.

Yato ha sido enviado por su padre al inframundo para salvar al dios Ebisu, pero al llegar ahí se encuentra con la diosa de la muerte, Izanami quien resulta ser la madre de Ebisu. Al principio Izanami de nuestra con cordialidad pero al enterarse de que ambos dioses piensan robarle uno de sus pinceles para crear ayakashis muestra lo letal que puede ser la diosa la muerte.
En ese momento es cuando Yato decide que salvará a Ebisu, no por el mandado de su padre sino porque cree en la visión del dios.
Por su parte Hiyori y Yukine han averiguado junto a Kazuma y Mayu el paradero de Yato y aunque los demás shinkis lo prohíben, Hiyori no dudará un segundo en ir a la entrada del inframundo para salvar a Yato, pero al llegar descubrían que todas las entradas están selladas así que tendrán que idear una nueva formar de sacar a Yato.
Valeeeee... debo decir que este tomo es el que menos me ha gustado hasta ahora por la simple razón de que Yato es dejado en segundo término. Quiero decir, Yato sale desde el principio hasta el final pero en realidad nos enfocamos tanto en la historia de Ebisu que Yato se convierte en un mero personaje secundario, y yo que pensaba que después del tonmo anterior por fin iba a descubrir quién era su padre y más sobre su infancia. No me queda más que esperar...
Fuera de eso el tomo nos llena de datos nuevos sobre los dioses, para ser más específica nos habla de sus reencarnaciones. Hasta ahora sabíamos que si un dios poderoso y recordado como Ebisu moría, este iba a reencarnar y ahora sabemos que esto también es un castigo pues si el cielo considera que un dios ha sido malo o ha caído en tentación, se encargará de eliminarlo. Algo así como borrón y cuenta nueva.
Los encargados de la educación del dios reencarnado son las mismas shinki que han seguido a su amo por años pero si el cielo los considera inadecuados se encargarán ellos mismos de buscar un tutor que consideren adecuado, es decir, que prácticamente moldearan al dios a lo que les plazca.
En este tomo también hay algo que llamo mucho mi atención pues como ya nos ha dicho Adachitoka desde los primeros tomos para que un dios viva por años tiene que ser recordado por los humanos pero entonces, ¿qué pasa con Yato? En este número Hiyori trata de encontrar cualquier referencia a Yato pero por más que busca no logra encontrar nada de él pero entonces, ¿cómo es que ha vivido hasta ahora? ¿Será que Yato tiene alguna otra identidad o tendrá por ahí algún ferviente miembro del Yatoismo? Realmente muero de ganas por saber la respuesta a este enigma.

Yato y Ebisu se enfrentan a la diosa de la tentación en el inframundo; la misión de Ebisu es tomar el pincel que le permita controlar a los espiritus mediante las máscaras, mientras que el cometido de Yato y la shinki Nora es proteger a Ebisu, según lo decretado por Padre. No será para nada fácil y más cuando el Cielo dictamina que Ebisu es un traidor y hay que ejecutarlo, lo que lleva a Bishamonten, Kofuku, Kazuma y Tenjin a tomar partido en este enfrentamiento. Mientras, nuestra Hiyori se ha propuesto ir en busca de Yato y salvarlo de las tinieblas, por suerte contará con ayuda de Yukine, el actual shinki de Yato.
Este noveno volumen ha sido otro que he leído rápidamente gracias a su cantidad de acción y a lo entretenido que se vuelve con cada pasar de página. Hay pocos mangas que lea tan rápidamente y me resulten tan entretenidos e imaginativos con "Noragami". No es solo por el estupendo dibujo de Adachitoka, sino también por el guion creado por este dúo de mangakas que, bajo seudónimo, nos han dado una de las series más entretenidas, mágicas y fascinantes de los últimos años.
Recordemos: un dios solo desaparece cuando es olvidado. Nosotros no podremos olvidar a Yato y a compañía en este viaje que, en su noveno paso, acaba en un brutal "cliffhanger". A seguir leyendo.

Finally towards the end of this storyarc things start to get interesting. It's good to see some characterization with Ebisu and Sekine and Hiyori are back in the picture!
I kind of wish there were an abbreviated shinto myths thing that appeared before stuff showed up in this series. I guess there's so much that even the through translator notes can't cover it all, but it took me up to this volume to look up Nakatsukuni to see that's the name for the world of the living.
Really like the stuff with Yomi and how similar it is to the Greek myths about the underworld. Funny how things are cross cultural like that.

Still as fun as always. The story is interesting and the artwork is brilliant; I also really love the covers for this series and how they're a little different from many manga bound editions. The colored pencil-style graphics and lack of lamination can be very charming amidst a highly stylized and glossy sea of manga volumes.

What concerns me a bit with these books is that the authors keep adding more and more characters rather than going into deeper storytelling with the characters they already have created. My hope is that future volumes start going deeper with the main cohort of characters.

The art is stunning, but I feel a little disconnected from the story itself, it’s not my favorite arc. However I read the previous volumes a while ago and maybe I need more time to get back into the story.

I am enjoying this arc, but there is so much more development which could be taking place. I wish Hiyori Iki would be able to take a more active role in what is going on. She is instrumental in the end of this volume, but there is a lot more she could be doing as someone who is on both shores. Yato is put in a bad situation by his father who may be even more of a crafter than Ebisu.

I AM ON MY KNEES. This volume had me on the edge of my seat. The way it played with my emotions with its thrilling pacing got me shaking and crying to my core. Ebisu is such an interesting character, may fate smile upon him.

I also want to note how epic the character design was for the creepy heavenly people sent after Ebisu. These are just some of the things that made this volume great, but my favourite part is what went on between Yato and Ebisu...
We learn Ebisu’s motivation , which inspires Yato , who breaks Ebisu out of his own train of inertia despite what he has always been told. They really made a great team.
But enough of my rambles, the relationship between Yato and Ebisu can be best summed up by the extra page at the end:

This volume is very good and very Japanese lore heavy. There are translation notes (man I wish ALL manga publishers would include these) which helps to explain Yomi. I'd bookmark them and flip back and forth while reading or re-read the volume again after you get to the notes and read them).
Anyhow, Yato and Ebisu are trapped by the queen of Yomi (and her real form is pretty darned gruesome) One of them may have to die to get free. Worse, Ebisu's head now has a bounty on it by the council of Gods but not every god is happy about this. Some of them are ready to revolt and save him.
While the heavens are about to pull themselves apart, Hiyori and Yukine are searching for Yato (as he didn't tell Yukine where he was going) only to get waylaid by an old enemy who has the power to kill them both.
So plenty of action in this, fairly well balanced with plot and story arc advancement. The art is lovely.
Can't wait for more.

I absolutely love Ebisu's character. He is so interesting and complex. I especially love how Yato and Ebisu's character's interact and what they are teaching each other, such as valuing one's own life. Things are still tense, a little sad, and definitely intriguing.
