Candy for Christmas

Rate this book
Candy's breath deserted her when she registered the look in Nolan's eyes. The hickory was burning. Focused intently on her.

Nolan Ducayne plays ice hockey for the Rangers and is the best defender in the league. Candice Levine is an Olympic gold medallist figure skater. They're fiercely attracted to each other. There's just one little problem. They're at war over the pond ice that lies on the boundary between their properties.

Christmas has always been lonely for Candice but this year she plans to embrace the season. She's even going to get a tree, which leads to all new problems with Nolan bloody Ducayne. The bane of her existence. He thinks he owns the ice. If only he wasn't sin on skates.

When Nolan comes home and finds the ice princess trying to cut down a tree on his property, he can't help but take advantage of the situation. It's a pity Candy hates him, because she stirs every one of his protective instincts. Not to mention the other thing she stirs.

Hockey player versus ice skater. The battle lines are drawn. But when the pond ice breaks and Candy falls into the freezing water, Nolan risks his life to save her. Hypothermic and trapped together by a blizzard, they're forced to confront their feelings and negotiate a Christmas ceasefire. The only question is... how long will it last?

A short and sexy standalone with a guaranteed HEA.

This was a very good story. I liked both Candy and Nolan and their story was a very nice Christmas romance. This is the first time I've read a book by this author and I liked it well enough I'd be willing to try more from her in the future. BTW...this book is currently (Christmas of '15) free on Amazon.

Candy is an ex figure skater who is now trying to figure out what to do with her life. She lost her parents at a young age and skating was all she had. A broken ankle ended her skating career and now she's at odds trying to figure out what's next.

Nolan is a hockey player for the NHL. He loves his sport and lives for his time on the ice. When Nolan is home from being on the road he likes to practice on a pond that is partially on his property. Unfortunately, Candy is his next door neighbor and they're constantly fighting over the pond.

There's a very strong attraction between Nolan and Candy but it's hard for either of them to embrace because of their constant fighting. Ostensibly, the fighting between Candy and Nolan is because of her toe pick, Nolan insisting that when she uses the toe pick to jump she leaves divots in the ice that cause the pucks to veer off course when he's practicing. In reality, Nolan knows Candy's ankle isn't fully healed and he hates seeing her constantly trying to make jumps that are just going to hurt her more. Since he doesn't feel he can make a comment about her injury, he makes them about the supposed divots. When Candy accidentally breaks through the ice and almost dies, Nolan saves her and it changes their relationship. It also helps that a blizzard gives them a good excuse to spend the holidays together and explore their mutual attraction. Things work out well and the story ends with them well on their way to a HEA together.

This was a very enjoyable story. I liked both Candy and Nolan and was happy they managed to work out their differences...even if I wouldn't wish for a near death experience to be the catalyst. The story is short but didn't feel lacking at all really. The story was very good overall and had great Christmas feels that left me feeling happy by the end. I'd recommend this story. :D

FYI...the story is a bit shorter than I expected as it ends at about the 76% mark on my Kindle.

"Candy For Christmas" Hockey Player vs Ice Skater is written by author Novalee Swan.
Published: December 19, 2015
My Rating: 4.5 Stars

What a great Christmas romance! "Candy for Christmas" was romantic and sweet. I have to say that I am a fan of this author and have read all her books. Unfortunately there isn't enough.

The blurb above does a good job at explaining the premise for this story. I will try not to repeat anything in my review.

Nolan and Candace (Candy).....

From the beginning I pretty much figured out what kind of man Nolan was despite Candy's complaints and the animosity between them. I liked Candy too but not as much as Nolan. The story starts with Candy trying unsuccessfully to chop down her own Christmas tree. Unfortunately she didn't realize that particular tree is on her neighbor's property. At least she didn't until he brought it to her attention. Nolan and Candy may be neighbors but they are NOT friends. They are at odds with each other about the boundary of the pond that sits on their properties. They constantly argue over who the pond belongs to. SO naturally it was not a little surprising to Candy when her nemesis finishes chopping down the tree then carries to her house for her. Why would Nolan does this if he hated her so much?

As is typical, things are not as they appear. And when a near fatal accident occurs, Nolan and Candy can no longer remain enemies. I truly enjoyed this book from start to finish. It was so short and easily read in less than two hours. I wish it were longer. Also, I want to say the epilogue was amazing!

If you are looking for a sweet Christmas romance you are sure to adore, I recommend "Candy For Christmas."

Relaxed in-depth writer

Hot steamy romance thoroughly thought out storyline both main characters have a pure love for the ice in totally different sports but its the joining of them via an accident that kicks the book into the next level. Definitely not for a 14 year old to read though

I probably would have given it a higher rating, more stars, if it had not reminded me so much of the cutting edge, which I also like. Although I have to admit this story is shorter, less complicated and different than the story in the movie.

Smutmas is getting down to the wire. And this has been a highlight of the event. Everything about this read was cute. We love the hockey/ice skater pairing. All around adorable!

Hockey vs. Figure Skating rivalry or is it??

These two neighbors have a true hockey vs. figure skating rivalry or do they?? They have been fighting over the use of a frozen pond that straddles their properties but one Christmas an accident sends things rushing to a head. Who will come out on top??

Candy is an ex-ice skater who retired after she got hurt. She is looking forward to Christmas this year. She is determined to have a tree and everything that goes with it. But things are not turning out how she planed at all. Will she get the Christmas she wants or one that's better?

Nolan is a hockey player who happens to be Candy's neighbor. He has been spending more time at home when he's not playing now that she lives next to him. There is only one thing he wants for Christmas this year. Will he get what he wants?

This is my first time reading this author. I really liked this book. I could not put it down once I started reading it. I can't wait to read other books by this author. I recommend this book to others.

Great little Christmas read. Enjoyed the story line. the characters were engaging and easy to fall in like with( too short to become emotionally attached to them.) Dialogue flowed nicely and the description to details was done well

Great read!

Candy and Nolan are neighbor's who share a pond. Both love to skate, but Candy a two time Olympic medallist and Nolan, a professional hockey player for the Rangers. Two different styles and two different complaints about sharing the ice. This story showed how one massive argument led to these two becoming inseparable. Very cute standalone love story. Four star rating.

Candy for Christmas is my first read by Novalee Swan. This quick read is a fun little holiday romance. Candy and Nolan's story is a perfect choice for those with limited time for reading. Candy for Christmas is a well written book with drama, humor and sizzle. I enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more from Novalee Swan in the future. Candy for Christmas is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.

Candice(Candy) is a Olympic gold medal skater who is retired due to a injury and now living in Colorado. Her next door neighbor a hockey star is a thorn in her side. Like fire and ice they spar. But after a argument she decided to push herself and a tragic accident occurs. What will happen next. I love the chemistry in this short read and wanted more

Enjoyed it Immensely!

I'm not a hockey fan but if the players look like Ducayne I'm going to start watching! This reminded me of an old eighties movie, but I found it to be better. A hockey player and a figure skater. Only she's injured and he's looking to get a little Candy! What a setup!

I thought this book turned out to be pretty good. I got it for free on Amazon so I naturally started out not knowing if it would turn out to be worth my time or not. The story was good though. Short and sweet.

A great little Christmas read, hot and steamy with a lot of hidden feelings in there too. Candice and Nolan are at each others throats until they're stuck together in Nolan's cabin when things certainly heat up despite the chill outside.

Short enough to read in one go.

A fun quick read! Candy Levine is a professional Olympic figure skater. Nolan Ducayne is a professional hockey player. His job is to protect the goaltender and the net. These two set sparks off each other. It is a fine line between love and hate. Until it is no longer hate.
