Brent Carlson, a brilliant but disgraced former astronaut, embarks on a modern day quest to gather and train the crew of the first international mission to Mars. Meanwhile, the power hungry billionaire CEO of a massive global technology conglomerate has launched a bid to reach Mars first and claim the red planet as corporate property.
The Mars Journey series delves into the science, technology, drive, and determination of the human spirit to come together to overcome our greatest challenges, explore space, and become the first martians to colonize the Red Planet.
Great 2nd book. An incredible read. Fast-paced funny ,well written, great characters. It was a bit short but I I'm getting used to the length. To me this was much better than the first book. We are starting to get a better understanding of what is happening. I really can't wait to read the next installment. It seems to me that each one of the series is like 1 tv episode. You get a lot of activity in a short period of time. Then have to wait a week till you see what happens. I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. This in no way has influenced this review. If you like a mild sceince fiction then this series is great for you.
This picks up prior to where book 1 left off. It was a little confusing, but I understand why we could not have the events at the beginning of the book appear in the timeline of book 1. Newer characters take the field and established ones get some depth to them. The author does not ramble on about a scene like a lot of what I have read lately. However, if the words are necessary he is not afraid to use them either. Since it is free for a review for book 1, which was free, there is not a lot invested here but your time, and the books are both short reads. Just because they are free does not mean they are not worth your time. Recommend to all who like science fiction. Worth your time.
Summary: A fast-paced short story introducing people who are expected to travel to Mars.
The action adventure continues from book 1 as former astronaut Brent Carlson starts to gather up people and money for mankind's first journey to Mars.
Hopping from one Mars journey prime candidate to another, Brent has adventures in Australia, Japan, India and Nepal giving a universalist view of mankind's interest in colonizing the red planet. The rich arch villain Johanne Strauss (AKA Herr Graden) is partially unmasked as the power behind the throne of the Mobius Syndicate.
The thrill of a high speed motorcycle race and the science of a rail gun launch of a space craft are portrayed quite well.
The first chapter listed as T-minus 6 years belongs in book one; the near suicide in book 1 belongs as the first chapter of book 2. Since we already knew that Brent's wife Shayla was murdered, giving us a back story was disconcerting and seemed out of place ... except to remind the reader about a subversive organization.
There are now six books in the series; I am looking forward to reading them all/
3 ½ stars Book 2 opens with action in the missing scene from the previous installment. Then it takes us globe-trotting as we meet new characters and revisit others. There's some rocket technology descriptions that must be exciting for those who understand about such things. The adventure picked up speed (haha!) once Brent set out to meet the top Mars Now contestants. The author writes very well but I found more errors in this second part than in the first. Plus, it's frustrating to read cliff-hangers! I want to keep reading all the way till the end. I received a free copy of this book which I voluntarily reviewed.
Brent finds himself touring the world, trying to recruit top candidates to crew the mission to Mars. The interesting, quirky mix of people whom he comes into contact with, makes for fun reading, it has to be said. My favourite was Koko (read this book for yourself and you will see what I mean!).
There is an interesting race going on with a man with a lot of money but few scruples, which adds excitement to the space race as well....and will Brent ever get to the truth of what happened to his wife?
This is the second book in the series and this series just keeps getting better. This is a great followup to book one. Lots more back story and character development. Fast paced and action filled. This is a great sci-fi and one that holds your interest. Makes you want to travel the universe. I received an arc from the author and voluntarily chose to review this book.
READY! SET! ITS HERE!!! Just keep bringing it. Another fast paced read with unexpected twists that keep you guessing. A well thought out plot with engaging characters. Expect the unexpected. You'll share the adventure that has everyone holding their breath and exchange ensure glances. Yep Bill brought his game on this series.
This is book two in this series and just like the first book it is amazing. The characters are all fun and friendly and each one has a mission and they want you to join them if you can... Buckle up and hold on to your seats ladies and gentlemen this may be one journey you just might want to enjoy...
This fills in a lot of the gaps left by Book 1. The characters and their teams are being developed and the history among the players starts to materialize. This is clearly abridge to Book 3. The best thing is I can't wait to cross the bridge.
I enjoyed the second book in this series. Like many of the books I will be reviewing, I received a copy free, usually from being on one of several e-mail lists or by being temporarily free on Amazon or another book site.

If you like sci-fi, you need to read the Mars Journey: Call to Action series by Bill Hargenrader. It has a unique timeline that adds to the drama, there is a wide variety of characters, both good and bad that are very relatable, and a story line that is intriguing.
Another episode in the continuing saga of the Mars Journey. The sequel is just as good as the first. I am so glad I decided to read these books. Now for episode three. Highly recommended.
Book number 2 starts off with some action and the plot starts to thicken AND gets a little darker. Plus I really liked the parody idea of the Mars One society
Interesting. The story continues in the race to get to Mars. New characters are introduced, the plot continues, and evil marches on. Read book 1 first.
Really enjoyed the second book in the series. The characters were interesting and the story line continued to be engaging. The end of #2 made me really look forward to reading book #3.
