A few years ago I would've finished this, maybe even enjoyed it. What a difference a few years, near sexual assault, and being drugged makes. The older I've gotten the more painfully I've become aware of how pervasive rape culture is, and it's showing in my reading tastes as well. Now you may be asking yourself what this has to do with this book. Well it means that when you take a sexual assault victim and throw her into a sex scene less than 24 hours after she was nearly raped I'm gonna call a red flag on the whole damn thing. Never mind that it happened less than 2 min after her finding that werewolves exist. But noooo her only thought is "gotta jump on the d." First, that's more unrealistic than werewolves and is awfully minimizing to victims. Second, the "H" is a big fat douche for even making a move on her so soon after saving her from rape. big fat DNF for me

There is a marked difference in the male lead (Malcolm) from when he first appeared in Claimed by the Pack . In that story he was edgier, craftier and a larger force to deal with. Heck, I had some serious trouble figuring out who I wanted to cheer for. In Rogue Alpha, Malcolm is tame, but this fact doesn't change the fact that this was a good read. The heroine is competent and there isn't any want to reach through the pages to give her a good smack. Storyline is a bit rushed but there isn't any skimping on the lovey dovey scenes. Overall rating is 3.25

4 stars! What a great shifter read!
I have absolutely no idea how I discovered this book, but I am so glad I did! It was so fast paced and action packed. Also, different from every other shifter book out there right now. The characters were likable; the story was engaging. Seriously, good read. The author also knows how to write a sex scene, which is of course a bonus.
The only issue I had was that I felt like Mal's (the H) past was unclear. He explained why he was exiled very briefly and did not go into a lot of detail on the times he talked about it. I believe (could totally be wrong..) he was in the author's previous books and if you had read those his past would be known to you. However, I didn't read those (and shouldn't need to for a standalone, even if interconnected) and I felt like I was missing a bigger picture. I wish the author would have explained his situation better. She did do a good job or explaining the Asher situation, but that's not what happened to Mal and his "mate". I feel like more time need to be put into Mal's past in order to create a more thorough picture for the reader.
Otherwise, I really did enjoy this story. I don't read serials so I won't be reading her previous series, but I will definitely check out the next book in this one.

I hardly ever have a book that I don't like the male character, but I do not like Mal. He's mean, and almost emotionless most of the time, and he only knows how to show emotions through sex basically. The hotness and sex could have been better btw. I didn't like Mal in the claimed by the pack series and only read this hoping this would end up as awesome as that was since Mal would be the Alpha and not the beta, and wouldn't be trying to steal anyone's girl. Unfortunately it didn't come close. Still thought he was an A-hole, the hotness level was just nothing like claimed by the pack, the story seemed weird somehow, and the ending was blah.

This was a quick read. If you like alpha male shifters you'll love this one. And of course he find a strong female partner. When he claims her there is no turning back even though it puts her in danger. Looking forward to the next in the series.

Laura wants to understand biology and nature and is currently taking ban internship with well known professor tagging baby deer. When she happens to run across a wolf in an area they are not supposed to be she feels like maybe she's missing something. Nobody believes her yet she knows what she saw and she knows there is more to it. When her professor tries to assault her she is saved by the wolf and brought into even more danger wen finding out he's a were.
The story was great. I loved the way the author introduced the characters and the shifters into Laura's life. There were e few tiny surprises and the sex was hot. Meal was a rough and sexy man coming to Laura's rescue but still understood she can help and take care of herself and instead of locking her up he treated her as his partner. I hate the damsel in distress and I love the author didn't portray Laura as such.
I give this a 5 star.

Laura Prince is a biology student studying the white tail deer. Mal is a werewolf who is exiled from his pack. When Laura is attacked by her professor Mal rescues her. Their attraction is instantaneous. Laura aids Mal to reclaim his alpha position with the pack by attacking a rival alpha, Asher. Can Mal reclaim his alpha position and save the pack? Will Laura and Mal relationship mature to love or remain lust?
There were some grammatical errors in the beginning of the story. There is explicit sex and adult language. The story is told from the heroine's point of view. The plot and subplots were easy to follow.

This was a really great Alpha male meets feisty female who is danger story. It had a nice twist to the typical shapeshifter story line with Mal being on his own and fighting to prove his worth to rejoin his pack. He meets his fated mate, Lauren, who is need of some protection and determined to help him fight. It was a quick read with piping hot sex scenes! I can't wait to read Luke's story next!

Laura Prince is working on research on deer's in middle of Michigan with her Professor Flood . As she is tracking one of her tagged deer's, she finds herself face to face with large Black Wolf. As she is standing there thinking flee her feet take her to him and she is drawn to raise her hand and pet him. Yes, she has her hands on a wild wolf, and before she can grasp what she is doing a shot is fired and she is sprayed in blood, as the wolf runs. Professor Flood comes out yelling. Laura again in shock what was he doing with a gun and he could of killed her. This starts her distrust of her adviser and she turns to Cam the other research assistant wanting to know if the Flood is trust-worthy.
Malcolm is here tracking also, just not deer dying of the wasting sickness, no he is tracking wolves. Mal has a mission to bring down Asher a rogue Alpha that has taken so to speak several of his brother wolves hostage in an alpha compulsion. He will set them free and kill Asher. This is the first book that I have read by this author and I was pleased. It had your romance and steamy scenes, but there is a part that could be a trigger to someone that has been raped. So just a warning on that. I haven't determined yet if I will continue the series or not.

This was a really good shifter romance, but I wish there was a warning about *trigger word coming up* rape because of a certain scene that happens somewhat in the beginning. Professor Flood is an asshole and I am content with his ending. (it's one of my trigger words, so I thought it would be best to warn you guys)
As for the actual romance, Laura and Mal had an interesting relationship. Besides the very steamy sex scenes which weren't that bad, they were Laura was not one to submit to an Alpha male and it was nice to see her stand up to him. Also, thank goodness, he did not overuse "baby" and "baby girl" in this book. He calls her a nickname but it makes sense.
All in all, I enjoyed this book. I wish there was a warning about Professor Flood and his actions. The action scenes were very descriptive and I loved them all except for the one fade to black fight scene that mattered the most. The writing was not that bad, it was enjoyable, and I would read more of her work. I'm not sure if I will read the companion books because I enjoyed Mal and Laura's story so much, but who knows.

If you are a reader who needs to have the Hero and Heroine’s backstories revealed within the current story you’re reading, then I would strongly suggest that you read the five part serial Claimed by the Pack before beginning this series. The Hero, Mal’s story began in Claimed by the Pack, this new series is deeply connected. The Mal we meet today, while strong, dominant and determined is a different Mal from the previous serial. Now, I’m not a huge fan of serials – I don’t happen to like cliffhangers, At. All. Yet, it does help to set the tone for the Wild Lake Wolves series. Is it a necessity to enjoying the beginning of the new series? Absolutely not! I mention this because there are readers who will give up on a story if there is no background to explain why characters are doing what they do – and that would be a shame because this is a good story. There are hints, we know that the Hero and the nasty piece of crap Villain have a history – if that’s enough for you then you’ll be quite happy with this story.
Malcolm and Laura make a believable couple who meet under extreme circumstances. There are more than one villain in this story and the lesser evil one makes moves on Laura that are not wanted. When she fights him, he gets even more nasty and physically hurts her it’s then that the black wolf that she’d encountered in the forest earlier comes to her aid. She doesn’t question how or why she simply escapes with her life.
Their lives are now intertwined, the enemy of one is the enemy of both. Mal is a lone Alpha wolf on a mission to destroy one crazed Alpha and rescue his pack. It’s not going to be easy yet with the strong, stubborn woman by his side – it just became more likely to succeed, and far more dangerous for his mate.
Rogue Alpha is a tense, engaging and sizzling sexy story. It sets up the rest of the series with enough connections to make it easy to dive into the entire journey with Mal, Laura and their pack. As I mentioned earlier, if you aren’t going to read Claimed by the Pack, then there are some story blanks that you are simply going to have to take on faith. That is my only real complaint with this one – honestly,I wish that Malcolm’s reasons, a touch more of his history with this crazed Alpha he’s searching out had been explained. It just so happened that I had read the previous stories so I wasn’t lost – but I shouldn’t have to make the choice to go buy a previous series or not to fully enjoy the story in front of me. Simply my opinion, but it could have been handled differently. This doesn’t take away from a good story, but it could have been better for that reason.
If you love Shifter Romance, I believe you’d enjoy Rogue Alpha and the Wild Lake Wolves series. It appears that this is going to be an intense and interesting series to follow.
I read this story through my Kindle Unlimited subscription. For ten dollars a month you get access to thousands of really great stories across all genre, and the authors gets paid for you reading the story through to the 100% mark. It’s a win-win. Probably the best 10 bucks I spend a month.

Laura Prince is a biology student working a summer internship that could be a stepping stone to better things for her future. Laura is frustrated with Professor Flood she's doing her job but apparently not good enough. When Laura spies a black wolf in the forest she's not afraid and only wants to get closer to it. For Laura, this sets of a chain of events that spark her passion and create new problems for her. Malcolm "Mal" Devane is a werewolf Alpha and outcast too. Mal is attracted to Laura but is also afraid for her as well. Professor Flood's odd behavior has Laura questioning her instincts. What is wrong with Professor Flood's behavior? I really enjoyed this book. The characters and story were unique and intriguing. I felt bad for Mal. Professor Flood just pissed me off. Laura is a great female character with no nonsense attitude. Definitely look forward to more from this author in the future.

I received an arc of this book from the author in exchange for my honest review.
Laura is on an internship in the woods and stumbles upon a black wolf that she feels a strange connection to. Before she can explore it further they are interrupted by her mentor professor Flood. Later she meets a a tall and dark stranger, Mal, and there is something familiar about him.
Mal was exiled from his home and the only way to be allowed back was to take on a dangerous pack. He meets Laura and immediately knows she is his mate. I really liked Mal and Laura's book. The storyline was fast paced and some unexpected things happened to Laura. Of course there were some points where Mal had to protect Laura, but she was able to hold her own mostly. The chemistry between them was intense and had me fanning myself a few times. I would definitely recommend this book and cannot wait for the next.

Laura is on an internship in the woods and stumbles upon a black wolf that she feels a strange connection to. Before she can explore it further they are interrupted by her mentor professor Flood. Later she meets a a tall and dark stranger, Mal, and there is something familiar about him.
Mal was exiled from his home and the only way to be allowed back was to take on a dangerous pack. He meets Laura and immediately knows she is his mate. 3 1/2 stars. No cheating, no ow/om drama. Good romance and connection between them.
Like the H & h and the sex was hot. Decent storyline though it kind of went at warp speed and was a little confusing on the specifics regarding the H's exile and some characters would have benefitted from more development. I never did figure out what the connection between Laura's boss and the villain wol is.
Laura, a student, is working a research program in the woods of Michigan when she comes upon a black wolf in the forest. She later meets tall dark and handsome Mal. When her boss goes from slightly creepy to near rapist she's rescued by Mal.
The story is pretty fast paced from the time the H & h meet (in human form). They are on the run from a crazy villain who is after Mal.
The other books in the series are KU and I would be interested in reading them. I believe some of this author's books have ménage which is not my cup of tea but it appears this series is couples only.

This book was too rushed. There's very little backstory or background given to explain the pack drama, the Professor and the evil Alpha's connection and the character backstories. Anyone who didn't read the earlier series 'Claimed By the Pack' before starting Rogue Alpha would have been seriously confused.
I wasn't a fan of Mal in the first series and he comes off a little better here but still isn't my favourite. I'm normally very hesitant about reading 'non safe' books with characters that have had prior relationships in earlier novels. In Mal's case this was a very serious relationship considering he and his mate lost a child together in Claimed by the Pack but I felt the author skipped over the emotional elements of his history. She hinted at it but never delved deeper. I would have liked to see a scene with Laura asking for the details about what happened with Mal's previous mate.

An adventure about a woman who thought all things that go bump in the night was a myth. Until he stood in front of her in all his naked glory. Laure is one of a couple students working in the woods with Flood their teacher, in the GLU program. Tracking the white deer population should be easy right? Nope. Besides getting weird vibes from the teacher, she is having dreams of the black wolf she seen and Mal the man from the store. And above all she feels close to the stranger Mal. What could all this mean?

Wow, what a story!
Loved the way it started a bit slowly but with some hints for the future.
Laura being a biology student she is surprised to see a wolf, even if her professor tells her she was wrong.
But the professor is the one being wrong, in more as one way. What a creep!
Luckily Laura and Mal find each other. He tries to act like a gentleman, but that is not possible where they are. Laura is in danger and together they fight for their lives. Lots of hot action and adventure.

This is the first book in Kimber White's new werewolf romance series. We saw Mal in the previous series and now here he is in his own sexy story, which he grately deserves. I love that Laura is an intelligent woman who is not always submissive. I really appreciate romance authors who write strong female protagonists. I give this four stars. What a good read!

WEREWOLVES! WEE!
As werewolf books go, this one wasn't half bad (but that's mostly because there's some really shitty stuff out there that's bringing down the status quo). The romance was really REALLY sappy though. Shame, that. But then I kind of expected it what with this cover.... lol.

Ask me in three years if I even remember this book.
This book was neither here nor there. It was nothing particularly bad about it. Sure, I liked the wolf part of it and the writing was okay. At some scenes it was exciting. However, there was nothing particularly great about it either.
I actually sort of liked the first two to three chapters in the book. The plot was building up and the characters were actually somewhat interesting. This however took a sudden turn when human Mal came into the picture. As soon as Laura found out who and what he was the story took a turnaround from Intriguing and mysterious to too fast paced, too obvious and just plain boring. In around 50 % into the story I found out everything, literally everything that made me intrigued too keep reading the book, all the unanswered questions and twists. At 50 %. What was the point to keep reading then? I felt like there were no reason anymore. The author needs to work on not revealing everything too fast. As soon as you take away all the mysteries then the reason to keep reading kind of disappears.
The story did not really go into to much depth or detail either. Why was Mal banished? Why did Asher want to hurt Laura before he new she had a connection to Mal? Why was Asher even so fixated on revenge and drunk on power? The author never explained it and it did not seem like the story built up a believable reason for it either. The personalities and relationship felt flat as well. If the author just took some time to actually show us how much they loved each other instead of writing it out just in the dialogues the book would have been so much better and believable. All Mal and Laura seemed to see in each other was how hot the other were. The only way the author could convince the reader that they loved each other was by literary writing it out in the dialogues. That does not make it a good love story. We should not be convinced by their love by the author forcing us to see it. We should be able to feel it and experience it by reading between the lines. That's how you convince a reader. As it is now, I'm only convinced that the author wrote this story only so she could write some some dirty stuff. That was all there seemed to be between Mal and Laura anyway.

Rogue Alpha was a free Nook Book. I do not usually read shapeshifter books outside of the Anita Blake series, so this was a fun change of pace. This is a series about the Wild Lake Wolves, but you can read it novel as a standalone without getting lost.
The characters in the book were interesting. I liked Laura because I can relate to her university stresses. As a graduate student, I understand the importance of research and impressing the professor who holds the key to one's future. Academic politics are a concern, and Laura represented that reality as she explored her options with her colleagues. I liked the play on her last name with prince versus princess. She was definitely a prince, and she held her own with a strong male lead that could have easily dominated her spirit as much as her body. Mal was ruggedly handsome and was a great match for Laura. He is an alpha wolf, but he understands that Laura is also an alpha, which is why she makes such a good partner for Mal. She is intelligent and is not afraid to change plans when needed because she strategizes to win the game. Laura is also a good markswoman, which turns out to be an important detail for the end of the book.
The villains were a little one-sided and not very developed. I was surprised as White reveals who Laura cannot trust. Her support system dwindles away, and she has to rely more on Mal and their unknown future. I wanted to understand the antagonists more, especially as they related to the wolf tribes. By the end of the narrative, I was still confused as to why Mal was exiled. This detail was glossed over, and I wonder if more is revealed in the later Wild Lake Wolves series.
The plot was standard enough. I knew what was going to happen, and the pacing was perfect for the eventual happy ending. The intimate scenes were well-written. Laura and Mal had a steamy chemistry, and I loved all the sex scenes outside. Realistically, none of these situations felt comfortable for lovemaking. However, it worked for the purposes of the book, especially with the emphasis of an alpha wolf. There was an animalistic feel to their passions that did not fall into a trope of beastility. Mal embodied the essence of a wolf even as he shapeshifted into a wolf. Laura and Mal were connected no matter what form he was in although their passions only occur when he is human. As a wolf, Mal is simply protective of his mate.
My main complaints about the book was that it was not longer and the villains' motives were not defined more. I felt like some of the surprise twists did not make any sense without more development and instead were a quick way to climax to the action scenes in the narrative. This was generally a pleasant read that will allow the reader to escape from their daily worries for a little bit.

Well. This is my first book by this author, and it was supposed to be a standalone. Unfortunately I don’t think it was well done, especially because all the characters in this book were connected together and had backstory’s from a previous series.
It starts with Laura meeting her fated mate Mal out in the woods while conducting research. Of course Laura is human and knows nothing about shifters. The villains come out to play which draws Laura and Mal closer together. The sexy times were hot, I was down for Mals dominance. Beyond that this book suffered from not being dual POV.
I felt Laura’s connection to Mal, but couldn’t feel Mals to her beyond the pull of the mate bond, especially when he kept lamenting about his previous mate (spoilers later). I began skimming parts that felt wordy and drawn out. I was left wanting in the ending and of course the first book is free on KU but the next 5 aren’t. I wasn’t interested enough to keep going, I just think this style isn’t for me.
Spoilers: I did some research and learned all the men were heavily featured in a previous series revolving around another heroine who was shared with the pack, including Mal who loved her. Her fated mate Tucker died and Mal marked and mated her after rescuing her from Asher. He got her pregnant and they lost the baby. She then went back to her fated mate after learning he was alive, leaving Mal heart broken and exiled.
So. This is HUGE. I kept feeling like this ow meant a lot to Mal and he wasn’t over her, especially when he said he wouldn’t make the mistake of sharing Laura. Well, he should have felt like everything had lead to Laura! Not that it was still a mistake he regretted. He never told Laura the whole story, especially when they talked about having kids. Does Laura now have to see Neve every day when and if they move back? We don’t really know bc the ending is left open, and I’m not invested enough to keep going.
