This was a great first read-aloud book with Brynn- she didn’t always sit and listen but she remembered the character’s names and asked questions about them and what was happening in the story. Figured we’d start early with the routine of reading aloud as a family <3

I loved the experience of reading this with my 8-year old who would shake her head and mutter "Oh, Anne!" The adaptation maintained the spirit of the book and was just about right to read for my daughter.

2nd read: Evie weirdly didn’t like it as much as my older girls. Her complaints include a lack of dragons and no mortal combat.

I read this to my girls and they loved it! It was quite sad at the end but they were still okay with that. Charlotte said she didn't want it to be over. We will definitely have to read more of the series.

“Marilla, isn’t it nice to think that tomorrow is a new day with no mistakes in it yet?” —Anne

Anne of Green Gables is another classic children’s story that I never read as a kid, but picked it up at my local Little Free Library because it’s on a reading challenge list. Anne as a character is completely likable and relatable, it’s easy to see why she is so beloved.

I was all ready to say what a cute tale this story was, but oh my god that ending! What was that? The unnecessary grief followed by the “when it rains it pours” trope, topped off with Anne having to abandon her dreams and goals just did it for me.

Be unabashedly yourself always.

I've never read the actual version of Anne of Green Gables. However, I loved this condensed version! I read it in the span of an hour, and it was adorable. Anne is a lovable character, and I could truly relate to her. She goes on many cute adventures with her friends, and she has a very interesting story. This book is just such a sweet, easy read, and I think anyone of any age would love it! This has encouraged me to go read the other version. Definitely recommend!

The Kiddos and I loved this, but of course the full, original story would have been better!

I have been so anticipating opening up the world of Avonlea and Green Gables to my six year old daughter, and this was the perfect adaptation! Together we read it in five days and she was excited every day to pick it up! I am sure it will be one classic that we read over and over again!

My daughter and I read this together. It's an adapted version of Anne of Green Gables and I think it was perfect to read aloud with my 9 year old. :) We look forward to reading more about Anne Shirley!! :)

Read this adapted version of the classic to my 3rd and 4th grade class. They really liked it. My favorite was when one of the boys said, "Miss Oakes, this girl sounds reeally annoying!"

[Audiolibro]🎧
⭐⭐⭐💫 3.5/5

Anne of Green Gables adapted by Margaret DeKeyser.

This Great Classics for Children version is condensed and adapted from the original.

This is a difficult one for me to rate because I absolutely love the full unabridged version. However, even though I understand that this version is for children it is so condensed that it loses much of its Anne flavor. I'm not even sure I would recommend this for children to read themselves because I don't think this would entice them to want more Anne when they were older and able to read the full version.

I would, however, recommend using this as a read aloud book and adding more of the original Anne flavor to it as you read it with a child.

Overall, an ok version so I gave it 3 stars with the caveat to use it as a read aloud.

ok this is a shorter version of the original Anne of Green Gables series..wonderful book loved the tv series and hope to buy and read all of the original book sometime in the future..so Anne Shirley is brought to live with Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert a brother and sister elder team looking for a boy not a girl but they fall in love with her cause she is a talkitive, spunky and imagitive young lady who wants to grow up and be a teacher..in this story she goes from being 11yrs old to17 yrs old living happily with the Matthew and Marilla and having a wonderful best friend named Diana as well as a competive streak with Gilbert..good story enjoy and sorry for misspellings

I have always been a fan of Anne of Green Gables, and I have been wanting to reread it for a while, but my library has been closed due to COVID-19. One day on a walk around my neighborhood I stumbled across a box of free books, low and behold I found a Young Reader’s copy of Anne of Green Gables.
Although details of the story have been cut and edited, I found that this children’s version retained the heart of the story.

(extremely) condensed and adapted version that I bought for $1 on campus.

been wanting to read the book since the first season of Anne with an E. already knew most of the plot so I just wanted to enjoy a quick and easy story. it was definitely that.

most of all it just got me more eager to read the actual book. Anne is such a wonderful character and I love the Cuthbert's. They're the type of characters you don't want to let go off when you finish a book.

I mainly read this book because I love the show! And this gave me a perfect summary of the show.

I’m in love with the story and this book has pictures for you to picture better the story.

This book makes me want to read the full series by L. M. Montgomery to have a more detailed story.

My favorite quote is:
“Marilla, isn’t it nice to think that tomorrow is a new day with no mistakes in it yet?”

Anne is a nice girl who has a hard life. She loves to talk to plants and she has a strict but nice adopted mother named Marilla. Her adopted father Matthew is kind and loves her very much all the time. My favorite scene in the book is when Matthew asks the store lady for rakes and seeds instead of a dress for Anne because he is too shy. I would recommend this book to someone to read.

This is an absolute Canadian classic, and I am glad that I read it! Even though I somehow ended up reading the version for young readers, I liked how simple it made the story. I was able to breeze through the novel and enjoy it and not force myself to read it, unlike my experiences with other classics. This is a must read for Canadians.

I enjoyed the book, even as an adult I enjoyed reading the adventures of Anne. Its a very simple story set in 1900s which is way too sweet and must have been ahead of times. Anne is such a lovable charater and all the other supporting characters helps the story to become an enjoyable ride for the reader.

This book is beautiful happiness and summer.

I re-read an ageless classic to see if it’s still my favorite book, and it is. It is beautifully written and I think influenced my development in the most positive of ways in that tricky 11-year old era. Anyone who hasn’t read it yet, at any age, can do themselves the favor of starting.

I’ve never read the actual Anne of Green Gables novel, but reading this one designed for young readers made me want to read the original novel and the rest of the series! It was really sweet, but I appreciated how fast paced it was. The ending came much too fast though, but it has made me want much more from L.M. Montgomery.

I loved finally getting a chance to read Anne of Green Gables. I have found a new love for classics, even if I only read them one time. I want to be able to say, Oh yeah I've read that one. So I loved it and I loved Anne.

He he he... 7 yo was hooked after the first chapter. A beautiful adaptation of Anne for younger readers! I thought they did an excellent job keeping the spirit of the book while keeping it true to the characters we all love so well.
