Trying to prepare for this talk. I mean seriously how do you tell your kiddo "hey every month for many years, you are going to want to scream at everyone and will be in pain, oh and there is bleeding too" ugh.....so not fun. This book is a good guide on how to get the ball rolling, I actually enjoyed reading it. It had some ideas on discussion / activities I would have never thought of. I think it is a good read for all Mom's trying to prepare for "the talk".
Jessica B. Gillooly's Before she gets her period : talking with your daughter about menstruation was not quite what I expected to use to discuss this time of life with my eight-year-old grand-daughter. It is full of personal stories and then questions to use to discuss the contents of the stories of each of the young contributors (who are at least 14 years old). There is a very small section on the actual body changes complete with a few diagrams. I think I'd rather the schools distributed the little pamphlet How Shall I Tell My Daughter complete with a package of products presented by Modess.
While it’s a bit outdated and some of the info isn’t relevant to recent times it does have quite a bit of useful information and tips. Too bad there aren’t more books like this!
