Rate this book
Spin-Off to Crossroads Saga - Prequel to The Chosen Knights.
Can be read as stand-alone

Michael and Claudia’s decision to move back to Crossroads was to keep their children safe, but they can’t escape who they are. Their children, Zachary and Lucia, were destined to be demon hunters—Venators. From the age they were able to hold a sword, they were trained to become the best and to ensure they would become leaders one day.

All is peaceful throughout the land until the Fallen and demons’ presences were felt in the between and on Earth. As the Venators investigate these locations, they will quickly learn how dangerous their lives are. Hearts will be broken. Teammates will lose their lives. And they will face obstacles which will test their faith.

As danger grows, the fear of fallen angels and demons regrouping has the Divine Elders on pins and needles. Now, Zachary and Lucia, along with Uncle Davin, must prepare themselves—mentally and physically—to live on Earth to investigate where the focal point of evil resides before it’s too late.

3.5 - "Something is coming... Can you feel it?" Stars!

This is the perfect little prequel novella to set up Mary Tings new Angel Knights series. If you are a fan of angels, demons and the battle between good and evil then this will most likely be a series you will enjoy.

Danger followed us because of who we were- Demon Hunters.

Lucia and Zach (brother & Sister) are Venators, which to you and me means Demon-hunters, they work as part of a team with their Uncle Davin leading them ridding earth and everything in-between of the dark beings. Of late there has been a big increase of demons on the Earth, and more and more Demon Hunters are being pulled into the fight to keep them at bay.

"The master is coming. Hell will finally be free."

This was a really quick read, and it’s really just an introduction to the main characters that are going to figure in the rest of the books, it also gives you the low-down as to why Lucia, Zach and Davin find themselves in Hawaii, in the first full length book The Chosen Knights.

Good would conquer evil in the long run…

I absolutely love the covers for the books in this series, they are unique, eye-catching and really do give you an indicator as to what the books are about. The third book of the series The Blessed Knights is due for release at the end of October, and I am pleased to reveal the cover and synopsis below –

Eli, Lucia's half-demon love interest, has been stabbed with a true-cross dagger and captured by Cyrus, master of the possessor demons.

The Chosen Knights must work together once again not only to save Eli, but also to decipher a clue to find the second missing page of Jacques de Molay's journal. Meanwhile, Uncle Davin informs Crossroads Divine Elders of the danger ahead and learns there is much more to fear.

Countless children are being taken from all over the world to be turned into demons.

Michael, one of the Divine Elders, has no choice but to intervene. The Chosen Knights track down Mortem, the demon who is the key to finding Cyrus, and learn they must travel deep into the pit of a Hawaiian volcano.

When they astral travel to the past in search of a clue and follow Jacques de Moley to Roselyn Chapel in medieval Scotland, what they find will rewrite history.

09/25/2018: Read for the second time. The rating changed from 5 Stars to 3.5 Stars.

I decided to reread this prequel and the first two books of this series to catch up and refresh my memory of events so that I can read the last book. I remember that I really enjoyed this series. Especially the characters. Rereading this did rekindle my love for the characters. I love the sense of family that the main characters have. They have good chemistry, though I have to admit that sometimes the dialogue seemed unpolished and forced. That aside, I still enjoyed rereading this and I do feel excited to start the next book in the series. This series is a spin-off of the Crossroads series by the same author. There were many references to events in that series, but I was still able to follow along without having read the Crossroads series. I think that I would have preferred to read Crossroads first though. It would have made the characters more special. Another thing that I like about this series is the premise behind it. I do enjoy paranormal stories and I like this take on the angels and demons trope. Overall, my reread did result in a lower rating than the first time I read it going from 5 stars to 3.5 stars. I think that I am just a little more picky with my books these days. I am looking forward to rereading the next two books and finishing the last book!

I received this book for free from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

This was a fantastic start to what, I can only anticipate, is going to be an incredible series! It certainly set the stage, and I immediately wanted to delve into The Chosen Knights after finishing this prequel novella. The Angel Knights is very short, and to the point. There is plenty of action packed into its short pages, and a lot of anticipation from the characters. The writing had a great flow.

The series centers around Venators, or demon hunters. If you are a fan of angels and demons, then you will love this series!

I think that it is important to point out that this series is a spin-off of Mary Ting's Crossroads series. It is equally important to point out that this new series can also be read as a stand-alone series. You do not have to have read the Crossroads series to understand or like The Angel Knights. I have not read Mary Ting's Crossroads series yet, and I loved this! I never felt lost, or as though I was missing key information. I will definitely be starting Mary Ting's Crossroads series in the near future!

INITIAL THOUGHTS
I readily admit that I adored the Crossroads Saga and totally fell in love with Mary Ting's version of heaven and the afterlife too. As you do when you love a series I became attached to the characters of Michael and Claudia, as well as Davin. . . .then came Michael & Claudia's twin's Zachary and Lucia. After reading Eternity the fourth and final book in the Saga I was a little lost wondering where I would be able to get my "Angel Fix" read. To be totally truthful the "Angel" genre is not one I would say I am a great fan of. . . .but I find these books written by Mary Ting irresistible, you really develop a kind of affection for the characters.

MY REVIEW
So, how did I come about this prequel? I do follow Mary Ting on Facebook etc and saw her new updated "heavenly" (ok pardon the pun!) Crossroad's Saga book covers and commented how much I loved them. Then Mary messaged me and told me there was Crossroads Saga spin off series called The Chosen Knights, and that there was a prequel novella ready to be reviewed straight away. Mary asked if I'd like to read it and I, of course said yes please! thinking the prequel and new spin off series a great idea's and exited to catch up with all the characters, I thought were gone forever.
When I read this novella there was no cover for the prequel. . . . . .so as yet I cannot pass opinion on the cover.
The prequel is told from the point of view of Lucia for the majority of the book though there are a couple of chapters from the point of view of Claudia and then Michael.
So some time has passed since we last visited the characters of Michael & Claudia, naturally they seem to have hardly aged in any way at all. Their twins are now 17 years old and have been training to be Venators since they can remember. Their mentor is the fun loving, "everything human" expert Davin, who is still as full as mischief as ever!
So to the plot. . . there's a "disturbance" in Insula, the place which is between HEaven and Earth. It is the first sign of any trouble reported since the birth of Michael & Claudia's twins.
We learn the twins have been on many scouting missions and have been training for a possibly inevitable battle if/when evil rises again. It seems the fallen and the demons are being even more sly than before using the fragrance of flowers to hide their distinct pungent smell. Both veteran Venators Michael, and Davin agree they can sense that something bad is coming their way. Zach & LUcia are just two of many newbie trained Venator's that will have to search out the evil that is gathering and lurking amongst the humans etc.
To say this is a prequel there is plenty of action, fighting with swords, wings, crossbows and more. I enjoyed the description of "mission" that Davin came up with to set the twins against their parents. . . .which I think is brilliantly written and show both the parents and the twins learn from. The parents now know how skilled their angelic children have become and the twins learn they still have many defense and offense techniques to perfect.
It is clear in this prequel that life has adapted since the arrival of the twins. Michael and Claudia are parents, where as Davin acts as what I would describe as a combination of an older brother/uncle!
We learn in this part of the story that Davin, Zach and Lucia are to be sent on a special mission to integrate themselves in a small place in Hawaii. The twins are excited they get to observe humans so closely and will have to adopt a facade of being human, which means going to school, learning to drive and wearing jeans! Naturally Michael and Claudia have mixed feelings about their twins going out into the big wide world and being exposed to humans, the fallen and demons!
Katherine hints at something really interesting within this novella, she is talking to the twins prior to them setting off with Davin on their big mission and she makes a comment that she wouldn't be surprised if one of the twins had inherited Claudia's special gift.
I think Mary has really developed the twins into complex characters in their own right, as well as them being the offspring of Michael and Claudia. Zachary, named after Michael's father, is the eldest sibling by minutes and he doesn't let Lucia forget it. Zach take's after his father Michael in that he is strong, protective yet caring of those around him especially his sister. Lucia is the more emotional of the twins, she struggles more with her human side, but is still a fiercely brave fighter when the need arises, perhaps Crossroad Saga fan's would say Lucia favour's her mother's likeness and temperament. It will be interesting to read what other Crossroad Saga Fan's think.
There is an incident in the prequel that strongly hints at what is to come later in this spin off series... Davin, Michael, Zach, Lucia, along with the rest of their team Jude, Victoria and Isaac are on an investigative mission when they are set upon by demons and the fallen, sadly a member of their party is killed by a demon called Mortem. During the attack and ensuing fight Mortem also grabs Lucia and admires how she is brave, and feisty. Mortem also says he senses something "other" about her. Thankfully the Lucia ends up being safe and sound but things could have gone very differently if the experienced Michael and Davin had not been on hand.
Caleb and Victoria are also already on a mission in this prequel returning with more grim news and an ominous feelings of foreboding doom ahead.
I could seriously go on forever and ever about this prequel. . . . .what on earth will I be like when I am reading and reviewing The Chosen Knights. This prequel promises so much more to come next! This prequel leaves you with so many questions as well as thoughts and idea's of what may happen next!
So did I enjoy the prequel? I loved it! Would I recommend the prequel? Yes it is a MUST read for all Crossroads fans, though you could read this series first if you wanted, and then read the Crossroads Saga later. I certainly recommend reading both series.
Would I want to read more of this Series? Yes please. I was addicted to the Crossroads Saga, and Mary has done it again, I am hooked into this new spin off series already after just the prequel!
Would I want to read other titles by Mary Ting? Oh I have read some of Mary's other titles, I really enjoyed reading From God's, which is the first in her Descendant Prophecies Series. I do want to read more of this series too, I just really need more hours in a day to dedicate to reading all the books I wish to.

FINAL THOUGHTS
Oh Wow! Oh No! Great prequel, certainly made me want to read more of this series. Loved catching up with Claudia, Michael, Davin, Caleb and Victoria as well as meeting their children Zachary and Lucia and their "team" of Venator's.
Looking forward to this new series but dreading the fact there is a new war on the horizon between the Fallen & the Demons and the Venator's! That sort of implies there will be losses on both sides, so we may be saying a sad farewell to some favourite characters . . .. but then there's all the action of the forthcoming war, as well as following Davin, Zach & Lucia's mission too. . . and learning more about Caleb & Victoria's mission too.
So many possibilities for both new, newer and older characters.

Just a short diddy about two characters, Lucia and Zachary, who will pick up the slack from where their parents, Michael and Claudia, left off 17 years ago. The real adventure happens in the first installment in this new series. Onward!

Review

‘The Angel Knights’ is the prequel to the spinoff series of the 'Crossroads Saga'. It follows Lucia and Zach, the seventeen-year-old children of Michael and Claudia, as they prepare for the battle of a lifetime. It have lots of insight into what would happen in the first full novel and was a sort of teaser for those who wanted to know what 'The Chosen Knights' would be about. I would strongly recommend this to anybody who is wary of picking up this series but would like to find out what it's about.
With that being said, if you're ready to pick up this series then I would have to strongly recommend reading the 'Crossroads Saga' first as it would give you a better insight into the plot and characters as well as history. The novella prequel does give you the basic details but I believe that it would be more enjoyable if you read the 'Crossroads Saga' series first and then 'The Angel Knights' series.
I loved the little plot the author had going. If you're wondering whether you should pick up 'The Angel Knights' BEFORE 'The Chosen Knights', don't. I'd strongly recommend you read the prequel.
I really enjoyed the introduction of Lucia and Zachary. They remind me so much of their parents! ESPECIALLY in their personalities and behaviour. It was interesting seeing them all grown up and behaving (almost) like adults.
The majority of the prequel was written in first person narration from Lucia's perspective, though Claudia's and Michael's perspectives were added in the last chapter. The phrasing was sometimes a bit awkward and could have been worked on a little more.
There were a few formatting issues with the novella. Some chapters had a blank page at the end for no reason and this disrupted the quality and pleasure of reading the paperback. The font was a bit too large in my opinion and could be cut down.
Despite all, this was a solid three star for me.
Congratulations to Mary Ting on publishing the prequel to her new series 'The Angel Knights'.

Rating Plan
1 star : Strongly did not like the book, writing and plot was bad. Idea of the book was against my liking.
2 star : Didn't like it, didn't find it interesting or gripping. Seemed to drag on to me.
3 star : An average book. Wasn't bad or good. Everything else was well done. Original idea.
4 star : Like a 3 star but has potential to it as a series or the book grew on me as it progressed and certain scenes captured me. I Enjoyed it and read it in one sitting.
5 star : I LOVED IT! I stayed up late until 3 am. Author is a genius, characters, plot, idea, development, EVERYTHING was EXCELLENT. Nothing else can possibly be said except that its 5 STAR!

I was given this book for my honest review

The Angel Knights (Novella) is a Prequel to the actual book The Chosen Knights releasing on 3/22/2016.

This book will give you a powerful insight to what more powers and strengths that the venator’s have in store for the demons of the night. The black and white mists that become a transformational sight will set you up for the gasping this book will surely have on you. The most important thing that you will take away in this book will be the journey that this author brings Angel and her friends on. Be prepared to go on a journey like no other within today’s world. Find out where by picking this read and The Chosen Knights on 3/22/2016.

If you’re a fan of this author’s Crossroads series you will be a fan of this spin-off as well.

Author Mary Ting doesn’t only bring a paranormal world into this book but she brings us to a current state as well.

The mythical of demons and venator's bring such a humanistic nature to this book you will have to keep your guard up for the known can be really the unknown.

Stay Tuned for The Chosen Knights and see where the journey really begins.

Happy Reading

I've read this story about two weeks ago and I really enjoyed it. The thing is, when I'm thinking about it now there's not much I can tell you. It was a nice and cozy read that introduced interesting characters and gave you a view of the world's situation. It also shows, that within all the battle and tough situations there's a time for joy and fun.

In a way, I think this story is better for the fans of "The Chosen Knights" - as an insight to heroes past. For new to the series, like me, it's an occasion to check out author's writing and see the glimpses of what might come. There's pretty much a bit of everything in this story - some action, some family moments, a view of the world and main enemies.

Did the story make me want to read the series?
Well, I'm considering it. It certainly made me curious and I'd like to read at least the first volume.

We follow two 17 year old twins Lucia and Zach who are the half human, half angel children of Michael and Claudia who also are demon hunters.

In this short novella we see them putting all the plans in place for their biggest battle to date Good Vs Evil.

This sort novella with give you the background information for book one The Chosen Knights this a full length book and hopefully a brilliant series, i enjoyed this taste of what is to come and can't wait to start this epic adventure into the paranormal world of The Angel Knights series.

*** 3 Cranky Stars ***

Half Angel half human - the Nephylum exist to serve, to keep humankind safe from the Fallen and demons.

The book is a prequel to The Chosen Knights and at fifty five pages is little more than an introduction where the reader meets the players, which I am assuming, will feature more prominently in The Chosen Knights.

I was disappointed because as soon as I got a handle on the characters, the book ended and I was left wanting so much more. In fact, I was left a little dissatisfied at the end of the novella.

Angel Knights feels like a ‘hook’ to me and if so, it has clearly worked. I would love to read the rest of The Chosen Knights and experience the whole series for myself.

It's great to find out what had become to the previous series' characters, and I was glad to read that my favourite character still in this book. Davin oh Davin, you never stop making me chuckle whenever I read your witty acts, and I loved you for that. Michael and Claudia sounded matured now, and their children were impressive too. I can't wait to read their mission on earth!

This was a marvelous story and a wonderful start to this series!!! I am looking forward to starting the next book ASAP. Mary Ting really brings this story to life and keeps you enchanted by her wonderful writing. There are not many writers that can entrap you in a book quite like Mary Ting can. Her writing will suck you in and not let go. Be prepared. Don’t say that you weren’t warned.
Michael and Claudias twins, Lucia and Zachary have been training hard to become the demon hunters they are. With the help from their ‘family’, they have become some of the best. With strange things happening, they are sent to investigate. After the missions they have been on, that should not be so hard, Right? Follow through with them as they prepare for a very important mission that only they can pull off.
Do yourself a favor and read this prequel, buy as many of Marys books as you can so that you have them on hand before you get started. Most definitely make sure that you have ‘The Chosen Knights’, that way you can start that one immediately after finishing this one. You will be glad that you did.
I am giving this Prequel 5 fantastic stars and I am diving into the next book. Thank you Mary for your wonderful writing. I am looking forward to the next.

The Next Generation (Audiobook)
Mary Ting’s The Crossroads Saga introduced readers to the story, meeting, and eventual love story of Nephilim Michael and the not quite human Claudia, along with their loyal friend Davin. The Angel Knights series picks up as their twin children Zachary and Lucia continue their training as demon hunters, Venators, and take on more challenging assignments, under the guidance of Davin. This book gives us some insight into the training of and dangers the Venators face and tid bits of things to come in future editions.

Mary Ting spun a good tale that kept my attention and had me wanting more. I appreciated this story much more after having listened to it both before and after book 1 of the Angel Knights series as many more pieces fell into place after the second read.

Kerri McCann does a nice job with the narration and as always gives us a good variety of characters personalities and voices.

Angel Knight, a prequel to The chosen Knights,
Is a brilliant, amazing, and fun loving story. I know you will enjoy it as
much as I did.
Exemplary at its finest! Put your seat belts on, knowing the gang at Crossroads, it could get a little hair raising, even bumpy. Especially where Davin is concerned.
They are about to embark on an adventure like no other. Michael and Claudia's twins are
now teens. They are always training with their fellow Venators, never knowing from one minute to the next or what's on the horizon.
This is where it all began, for me, at Crossroads, it's like coming home after a move or a very long vacation. With that being said, I recommend this to anyone 18 & over.
Well done my friend, Mary Ting. I'll see you when I see you

Mary Ting , it is so exciting to be back with Claudia and Michael and their amazing twins, and all the other wonderful characters including one of my favs, Davin!!!!!!!!! Mary does not disappoint in bringing these characters back to life and allowing you to connect with the new ones. You will be emotionally connected from the very start. My heart was pumping with excitement from the 1st page. The bond you felt in each crossroads book , each new emotion you found in every character from the beginning, all the heart stopping moments you had thru out the series you are going to find in just this short story that is the beginning of what is to come.. it is hard not to give it away im so excited for you all to read this Novella, as always .. it is so well written.

A Crossroads Spin-off Begins with the Novella The Angel Knights.

And I must say, its about time. I fell in love with this series when I first started to review books, and can never get the characters I fell in love with out of my head. Davin, oh how you make me laugh.

Claudia and Michael's children, have been training to become Venator warriors against the demons. It's been quiet for a while, however the tension is in the air that a war is brewing.

It's their turn to to rise, to observe, and report back the situation that all are fearing to be the worst war to come. Zachary and Lucia get a taste of what battles are to come before they head on their first mission.

This novella is a real tease to what is to come.

5 awe-inspiring stars!

I was given this book for my honest review.

When you dive into the pages of this novella, you know what it is to be loved and to live up to what is expected of you. But you also feel the pain of loss and the joy of unexpected fun with family. This book will give you thrills, chills, a tear or two, and fill your heart with love for the well-fleshed out characters that Mary has created. You will feel them come alive in your mind and in your heart and leave you racing to find the next book. Good news is that this is a prequel, sad news is that it just isnt long enough to sate your appetite, so be prepared with The Chosen Knights to follow it up!

I loved Lucia and Zach! If this is a prequel then the book is going to be awesome! I loved that Michael, Claudia and Dave were included. I loved their story so this is a huge bonus. The story plays off 17 years later and tells us more about the twins' training as demon hunters. I loved that the author goes into such detail that one can imagine the scene. She describes everything in every detail possible. A definite must. This is a Crossroads Spin-Off series and is well worth the read!

This had a lot o potential, I mean, the demon fighting offspring of angels? Yes, Please, sigh me up. Siblings Zachary and Claudia are coming into their own and leaving the nest. Ms Ting paints a picture of an exciting world full of tradition, adventure, and otherworldly elements. While reading, though, it felt a little flat for me. I wanted more showing and less telling. It's a brief intro to a complex world, so I wouldn't be deterred from giving her full length novels a try.

Good little introduction for the new series!!!!! I really thought it was a good introducing for the series. I never read the first series with Michael, and Claudia, which is called Crossroads. I do own the first book just haven't read it yet. There really isn't a whole lot to review about this one. Even though it does set up the new series, that looks like it's going to be interesting. In the new series it's going to be about the children of Claudia and Michael, as well as their Uncle Davin, whom is going to be there guardian.
In this book we find out that the new series is going to deal with trying to find out who are taken some missing teens and why. The main characters will be Uncle Davin, ( whom I really love, because his super funny), Zach, and who I will be the main character and that is Lucia. And from what I read about her already is that she's going to get herself in a lot of trouble, because she reacts before she thinks. I really believe that because she has a big heart and what's to help the people she loves.
I already started to read the first one in the series but my review won't be up until my part of a book tour that I am taking part of. So you'll have to wait until the middle of the month to find out what I thought about the first book.

This is my first book by Mary Ting, so I haven't read the Crossroads series yet, so am missing the connections a little here.

This was a good prequel to the Chosen Knights book, giving you a bit of background as to whats going on. I must admit I'm not a massive fan of YA books but this is PNR as well which I love, I was very intrigued with the blurbs and so thought I would take a chance on these, and I have not been disappointed, they turned out to be really good!!

Lucia and Zach are demon hunters born and raised (half human/angel), working as part of a team taught by their Uncle Devin as well as their Mum and Dad (from the Crossroads series?). Their job is to protect the earth and humans from evil and nasties. This is a short read but gives good background in preparation of reading Chosen Knights, and explains why they end up being in Hawaii.

This story is the prequel to “The Chosen Knights” where we see that Michael and Claudia have moved back to Crossroads with twins Zachary and Lucia. They both have been trained to fight the demons and the Fallen but with the ever present danger from the fallen and the demons they must all train hard to prepare for the coming war.
This must be read first before taking on “The Chosen Knights” to understand the backstory of the charactors of Uncle Davin who is hilarious at trying out human antidotes and Zachary who, although born a minute before Lucia, has a need to protect her.

This is a prequel novella for the series. This series is a spin-off of the Crossroads Saga. It is about demon hunting Angels. Zachary and Lucia along with others hunt demons. The fallen are regrouping and appearing in places they haven’t before. The along with other demon hunters are going to have to step up their game and take them down. The fallen is growing in strength. Zachary, Lucia, and their uncle have been given a task that will challenge them in many ways. I really liked this book and look forward to reading the first book in the series. I haven’t read the Crossroads series and I didn’t feel confused at any point. This is a YA book.

I get the feeling that this story was just grazing the surface

I liked this story
Except...
It said a lot without really telling me anything, which I find irksome.
No depth
Apart from what I hope is a gimmick to get people to purchase the other books (which could backfire), this could use some light editing to clean it up a bit more.
It was just short and barely grazed the surface of anything so I don't feel one way or another about it.

I really enjoyed this book, It made giggle the why the characters interacted with other especially the uncle and Lucia's dad were with each other. Also i like the trick the uncle played on this team.
