This contemporary guide provides both a bride and groom perspective, helping couples plan a Catholic wedding and navigate their new life journey far beyond the wedding day. Personal vignettes provide the reader with humor, tenderness, practical tips, and faith-filled examples. The author and her husband explore topics such as budgeting, planning the Nuptial Mass, choosing the right dress, communication, learning to live together as a couple, sexual intimacy, and Natural Family Planning in light of the Church's teachings.
This book was a gift for my son and his bride to be. I decided to read it before I gave it to them. What a lovely book! From a seasoned couple point of view (32 years) the advice was spot on. This should be required Pre Cana reading.
Specifically aimed at brides, this is a good resource for Catholic engaged couples that integrates the manifold spiritual (picking wedding readings, blending prayer lives, practicing virtues, learning to love as Christ does, marriage preparation and requirements) aspects of wedding planning with the practical (setting a date, choosing a reception venue, figuring out finances picking your dress) aspects. It's not comprehensive, but it's a very good resource. The checklists and appendices are extremely helpful. My only complaint is that I wish there had been more from the groom's perspective - but what was included gave good insight into wedding planning. I would recommend this to any Catholic engaged couple.
I read this book chapter by chapter out loud with/to my fiancée over the course of a few months. It is a great resource for engaged couples to get them talking about the important conversations that should happen during a betrothal.
Great read for newly engaged Catholic couples! Not only does this book go into the practicals of planning a Catholic wedding, but it also delves into the sacrament of marriage as a whole and how to build a lasting communicative relationship. Would recommend!
I read this book with less than 6 months to go before my wedding so many of the sections on planning I no longer needed to know about. However I read the book cover to cover because I still gained lots of insight on parts we already planned. I did not however, do the reflections at the end of each chapter. I am waiting for my fiancé to read the book so we can have the conversations together. I might update my review if we go through all the reflections.
As a newly-engaged someone who (1) hasn't thought at all about her "dream" wedding and (2) has been to very few weddings, let alone Catholic ones, this book is going to be SO helpful. The world of weddings is overwhelming, and it's so easy to lose track of the end goal of this mess: the sacrament of holy matrimony. I only heard about this book because I opened Pinterest after getting engaged and nearly cried at the overwhelming options for... everything. A friend recommended this book, and I feel like I'm on the right track again. Stephanie presents a great blend of practical advice and spiritual reflection.
I've read it once and will likely make another few passes as our date approaches.
In this must-have wedding planner, author Stephanie Calis breaks down Catholic weddings from start to finish, with indispensable checklists, moral support, and even groom advice from her husband, thrown in throughout. Whether a couple is getting married in a Nuptial Mass, or is wondering how to do a Catholic wedding when one half of the couple is either a baptized Christian or a different religion entirely, Calis helps couples navigate this stressful time with honesty, warmth, and humor. I bought the book and read it front to back in order to help me get through my engagement! Better yet, much of her marital advice is useful even after marriage.
